Spark is produced between the electrode gaps of spark plug in case the voltage between the Gap becomes in range of 20000 to 30000 volts. To develop this much voltage an ignition coil is used which is actually a step up transformer capable to increase the voltage from low voltage of battery. In CDI system also called as capacitor discharge ignition system, a capacitor is charged by a power source and then discharged through the primary coil of ignition coil so that high voltage is developed in secondary coil which happens exactly on time when the spark has to be executed inside the cylinder. how much voltage is produced by the trigger coil in real life scenerio? How much ampere current is flowed from trigger coil to scr switch? I need this information. I am trying to measure the engine rpm of my motorcycle...

What a helpful explanation with schematic diagram!. No words to thank you. Please upload more videos. To fully understand this subject people must watch till the end. I had been looking for videos that would explain how the engine is stopped. This video has clearly explained that.

Great explanation, English is usually spoken at a slower pace just relaying this to you to help you with your speech and not to be rude , if you speak in a more relaxed manner it helps to also relax your listening audience and there for set a mood for reception of information, personally I had to watch 3 times because I got over excited and I have no capacitor lol

Is that the CDI are all the same or it varies to various engine (like 125cc, 150 cc or 250cc) ??? Because i have a problem of CDI, i have lost my 250 cc motorcycle CDI (8pin), but in the market only found CDI s which have no specification about engine? is there any problem if i put any types of 8 pin CDI to may motorcycle? Plz help me,,,, Thank u..

Thanks for this informative video. I hv a question, that is.... Approx How much voltage generated in trigger coil??? I hv a RE TB, my rpm meter was gone last year. Now i want to set a arduino based rmp meter. For that reason when i checked the voltage of "pulse wire" of CDI, I found only fluctuations of about 0 to 160/170mV during acceleration through a digital multimeter. Is it normal????? Please help me about that for better understanding. Thanks I want to know that how many voltage can i read through a multimeter in pulse wire of CDI???

Thanks for this great video, I have one question: Here the spark plug fires when the SCR CLOSES,and shorts the capacitor through the coil primary, I have always heard that the coil secondary fires when the primary switch (an SCR here) is OPENED, collapsing the primary field...can you help with an explanation for this. I am so interested, because I need my circuit to behave EXACTLY as yours does. Thanks so much!

One thing is needed to be cleared. Just after the compression stroke, when capacitor discharges current through the triggered (Closed Circuit) SCR, is that current AC or DC? My concept says that the discharge from the capacitor must have to be AC. Because if the discharges from the capacitor is not AC then there will be no changing flux hence there will be no induced current in the secondary coil.

Hi Great job! is there anyway to check voltage going to coil + from cdi box? I never hear anyone explain that. Or is it a MF you can't test without a scope? Just wandering........

Sir I what didn't understand is that when magnet rotates a cycle around stator coil, also pickup coil trigers in one cycle, which completes two strokes. So in this way triggers should send signal to the SCR two times in 4 stroke cycle.

i was told that only ac current can be stepped up using coils or transformer, but here i think dc current is being stepped up? isn't it??

The spark is generated when the magnetic filed in the secondary coil collapses(i.e., when the SCR switches off).

In a four stroke cycle IC engine there will be a spark at the end of Exhaust stroke as well. It is called as a waste spark. Suction and Compression is a one rotation of the crank, Spark will be ignited by a Hall sensor at the end of the compression stroke. similarly Power and Exhaust is a second rotation and a spark will be triggered at the end of exhaust stroke.
