Dude awesome job here! We recently repaired several SNES AC Adapters, but those issues are cable-related. We didn't need to replace caps, so props to you. Great video and you have an awesome set of tools at your disposal! Those sega adapters look much easier to open! Freakin Nintendo.....

Thank you!! Yeah it seems that Nintendo really didn’t what people to open their stuff!! I’ve taken apart the SNES ones before and they are a pain!! You need that special bit and you wind up cutting into the plastic casing if you’re not careful!! 🐺🐺😁😁

When recappng systems, people tend to overlook the external power supplies. I recapped all of my MK-2013 and 1062 power supplies after one of them started to have problems properly powering my Sega CD.

Almost Every MK 1062s and a few 2013s I had taken apart had electrolyte crust on them, A few Model 1 Power supply Diodes had been corroded by the electrolytes and had to be Substituted from my dead Model 1 Adapter which apparently had a dead transformer. All the Diodes were good at least. I still should get some replacement diodes.

@@wolfmanrepairs I had an original model 1 psu BURN AND SMOKE. On disassembly the little pcb had all of its layers split apart, one of the diodes was CRISP. It probably would have burned my house down. I run a genesis cd 32x, all 3 psu's were original. I am looking to find a modern 3 in 1 for the unit as all my other psu's for my other consoles are modern save for my SNES. At this rate should I replace my SNES psu too or were they built well enough NOT TO EXPLODE?

That’s crazy!! Can’t believe the psu was all burnt up like that!! I haven’t had any issues with my OEM SNES power supplies. I don’t ever leave them plugged in though. I only plug them in when I’m playing and disconnect them after. Do you leave yours plugged in all the time? 🐺😁

I'm trying to take mine apart and one of the bolts absolutely will not budge. Any suggestions/advice on how to get it loose?

You could try using a little wd40 on the bolt and let it sit for a while. They are really in there good!! You might just have to go for it and hopefully it won’t break the housing or something. Let me know if you get it loose 🐺🐺😁😁

Sorry for the new stupid question, but why is the output reading 13v when the power supply says 9v? Was checking my own 1602 power supply.

Nah there’s no stupid questions. I’m still learning every day about this stuff! I could be wrong but I think the power supply will read higher if it’s not running the console because it’s not under a load. Hope that helps !!🐺😁

@@wolfmanrepairs Gotcha. Thank you for making this video! I only did a clean of my power supply and this was helpful to verify I did not break anything in the process. I'll be back to this video when I work up my soldering skills and decide to recap this power supply!

I have a power supply that smokes when plugged in. Something is loose inside.

Once you let the magic smoke out of electronics it’s hard to put it back in!! 🤣All joking aside, please don’t plug that power supply back in. Either there’s something shorted inside it or the capacitor has failed and that is what is smoking. If you want to send it to me I would totally take a look at it for you 🐺🐺😁😁

My sega on the red led but in screen it has a bibrate sound and dont show image. Will be the capacitor?

I don’t think that is the capacitor in the power supply making that happen. I would try giving the a/v port a good clean with IPA or contact cleaner and put the cable in and out a few times. If that doesn’t work I would try reflowing the solder joints on the a/v port. Also clean the cartridge connector really well with IPA or contact cleaner. Let me know if that works 🐺😁

Thank you for video. I have my Sega Game Gear (portable version of Sega) for Europe market, and for it Power Supply MK-2103 has inner "-" and outer "+". Your version of power adaptors have opposit polarity. Is this because of Europe/US market differences?

Hello, i have two model 1 power supply and one is putting out around 13v dc but the other is putting out zero dc volts but around 120 something ac and ive been searching for info but all i see is not working. Not ones putting out full ac power. Any idea how to fix it?

Hello!! I’m not sure about this. Im assuming your not in the US because 120v ac would be fine for a US outlet. What I have found with these power supplies is that they usually have cord issues. Are you measuring the output voltage at the end of the cord where it would plug into the Model 1 or inside the power supply? (Measuring inside the power supply with it plugged in is dangerous you can easily get shocked or worse so please be careful) Let me know and I will try and assist further. 🐺😁
