Hi, Russ! I have been meaning for a while now to thank you so much for your videos. I love "visiting" places I have never been, and revisiting some I have years ago, and I enjoy the tone and content of your chit chat and comments. It is so nice to have a "clean" channel with a non-political bent. It is a wonderful change and breath of fresh air. Sometimes, when I am finding it hard to sleep, I will watch a video or two and that leads into more peace and calm and I can get to sleep with lovely images in my mind. Your voice has a nice tone and modulation and kindness in it. And I enjoy the way you find flowers to comment on, or the way you notice things like the way the trees frame the ocean against the Oregon shoreline. Anyway, keep up the good work. You are producing much more than a travelogue!

Russ, thank you for this! I lived in Southern Oregon from 1985 to 2021. Shore Acres is my absolute most favorite place on the coast. I’m full time in my RV. I’m going back to the Oregon coast next summer.

Hey Russ… Timmer here… Those red flowers are called red hot pokers what’s the name of the plant I live up here in Oregon and they’re all over… I met you in Quartzite at some friends of mine Curt&kendra kite store Curt was wearing a blowup dinosaur costumeactually I got you on video on my phone. There are resident whales that traverse there. I saw some in September one year. You do not even need a pair of binoculars. The ones I saw were real close1 ❤ Cape Arago is one of my very favorite places n the coast. Further on in your video, the rocks at the end of the viewpoint are almost always filled with sea lions. That is the first time I have see absolutely none there.

The dark colored ones are California Sea Lions the light one is a Stellar Sea Lion. From Thanksgiving through New year that garden is filled with holiday lights, thousands of them and big displays like a whale it is gorgeous. Those rocks to the right side have the big wave during winter high surf warning waves that can hit 200-300 feet it is like watching daytime fireworks.

You can understand why you see so many motorcycles and rv's on the Oregon coast, especially during summer. It was as if they made it for them. I don't think it's so much the marine life are intolerant of people, (seals/lions etc),... as people throw food at them while climbing on rocks to see how close they can get, (like Yellowstone),. And they bite. Otters are to be avoided no matter how cute. Got'em around here. They climb on boats to relax causing damage,...tear up the docks and sometimes drive fishermen crazy, lol. Ooo-wee,.. does it stink on a warm day where they've been lounging. Burns the eyeballs sometimes. Whew. Another good one here. Cheers! 👍

Depending on where you are on the coast, the red and yellow flowers are called many different things. The two most common are... Trytoma Groniasta - burning torch and the Kniphofia Poco Daybreak - red hot poker. Hope this helps.

Good morning, Sir. I think I was able to find the name of the red w/yellow base flower from your previous video in the sailors' memorial garden --- and this is subject to being corrected if I'm mistaken. But, I suggest that the plant is a red thistle. I found a picture that resembles what appeared on your video. Ahhh! More appear in this video (Shore Acres Park) -- yay!!

Was the tide in when you filmed Arago? When I visited there were hundreds of sea lions and it appears those rock areas are under the surf. My favorite part of the OR coast... from Fort Stevens where the Peter Iredale ran aground in 1906 to Brookings! Just splendid 🌊

Very much, I love our coast! Watching Cape Arago State Park. We have been there, what happened to the lighthouse? It was smaller, and retired, off the beach, on an outcropping in the ocean.

I like watching your video's also...but wondering why when in Colorado you missed so many interesting things along I-70 sure wish you would redo the Colorado video and go up into Silver Plume, Idaho Springs, Georgetown and up into the mountains where all the casinos are located...even Empire, Colorado is interesting. So much to see and do in Colorado...Silver Plume has a museum that was once the school...lots of history there. I'm watching the video on TV Badwater Basin everything is brown lol 😊 carry on!!!

We were at the Shore Acres Gardens this morning. Beautiful view. It is the site of the mansion LJ Simpson built for his wife. It burned down 😢. Stopped in Charlston for a delicious lunch.

Sea lions are much safer in Oregon as there are far fewer great whites (waters get too cold) to prey on them, as opposed to their Californian cousins. The sea lions in California have to navigate a large area known as the 'Red Triangle' which stretches from LA up to San Fran and out to the Farallon Islands.

Ah, back on the Oregon coast...and with a special guest appearance by a turkey! I really like the shot starting at around 2:20 with the sun poking through the trees on the right and the textured cloud layer overhead. I've driven past the turnoff for Charleston and Cape Arago many times, what a beautiful spot! It's so nice when you have places like that to yourself. (FYI, those flowers are called red hot pokers) Onward to Winchester Bay...until then, happy trails! PS: If you haven't started heading east along the Columbia River yet, I recommend a stop at the Bonneville Dam and Fish Hatchery, where the star of the show is Oregon's most famous fish Herman The Sturgeon.
