4. SOUNDBITE (English) Ameerah Fortune, Wynberg resident:
"It was just a wild wind, where we’re used to getting wind and rain but that was just something uncommon and it was like lightning that also struck at the same time. So it’s not a normal wind, it could be a mini tornado or something, the way what we experienced last night because we were still awake at that time.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Michelle Lincoln, Wynberg resident:
"I’m an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) I’m always helping people. So where there’s national disasters I will try to give and do whatever or where people need, and now I never thought that I would be the one in this predicament, and all of us here we need help. We need our roof to be fixed to get back to basics.”

This is how I stay, and now I’ve got a one year, two-month-old baby. I stay with her, but now I had to chase her away (send her away) to go stay with her granny because this is not a kind of place you can stay, (she can't) stay with me now."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Mmamoloko Kubayi, South Africa's Human Settlements Minister:
“We have taken a decision to start with category C informal settlements. These are informal settlements that are in the danger zone, there are more than 800 of them. So we’ve got to find land to relocate them. As I’m saying, one of the priorities now is that in the two weeks we must identify within the city, land that we’ll be able to look at. We’ve done that in Queberha, where we found land. Those who were in a danger zone where they have been flooded, they’ve been moved to safe land.”

STORYLINE:
The South African city of Cape Town and surrounding areas were hit by more storms Thursday that ripped roofs off houses and caused widespread flooding, forcing at least 4,500 people out of their homes and damaging at least 15,000 structures, authorities said.
The devastating weather began a week ago.
Multiple cold fronts have battered the region on the southwest tip of Africa since late last week, bringing record rainfall in some parts and gale-force winds.
City authorities said the bad weather was expected to continue until the weekend and possibly into next week.
The Wynberg neighbourhood of Cape Town was littered with damage Thursday morning after the latest front hit overnight.
The strong winds blew off roofs, destroyed parts of houses and other buildings, and brought down electricity poles.
The City of Cape Town said its Disaster Operations Centre worked through the night to respond to calls for help from residents.
At least 4,500 people were displaced and 15,000 structures damaged in and around Cape Town and the wider Western Cape province before the latest storm Wednesday night and those figures were expected to rise.
But it's unusual for multiple fronts to hit in a short space of time.
