CAPE VERDE SPIN FISHING
Lite spinning adventure in Cape Verde using my bass set up from the UK. Iwas using a combination of bass surface lures like the Xorus Asturie and Pachinko, aswell as Lucky John Basara casting jigs 20-40g and soft plastics...
I was incredibly lucky to catch a bonefish off the beach near the hotel!

It’s a beautiful place, arid on land, rich ocean wildlife

Great video, I am staying at the Palace at the end of next month, can I ask where the reef is heading straight out from the palace? Tia Damon.
@theoccasionalangler6956
@theoccasionalangler6956 5 месяцев назад
Hi Damon, you’ll find reef basically follows the shoreline about 40+ yards out. Use a bass setup … perfect. Casting metal jigs are good, .soft plastics like fiiish black minnow are perfect but they get destroyed by toothy species.. so take plenty of them. If your after jacks take some surface poppers.

Great thanks, I have a 10 to 30 g travel rod I use for pike and have some Savage gear surf seekers, a few poppers and some jigs. Are there any fish that would take a lure around the jetty in Santa Maria, I would imagine there are plenty of bait fish around there after the scraps washed in by the fisherman? @@theoccasionalangler6956

Fantastic, do you have contact details for the guy you went rock fishing with and what does he charge, I think this was on here somewhere but I can't find it now. @@theoccasionalangler6956

There are several operators on the pier in town… it was quite pricy… £100 for a few hours on a small boat inshore

Cool vid mate. On holiday myself (in Ramsgate 😂) so finally got some time to watch RU-vid and chill a bit. Enjoyed that. Awesome to see you catch a bone fish. Did you switch your camera off when you panicked about it not being on?

Lovely, just around the corner from me…. Yes that bonefish was really unexpected…. I was really worried I had not turned the camera on!

@@theoccasionalangler6956 well long may fish make you a fumbling excited mess! Where about are you then? Any tips for fishing Ramsgate would be welcome. Is it worth chucking a lure in the evenings and are all the bass tiny schoolies?
@theoccasionalangler6956
@theoccasionalangler6956 Год назад
@@Fishwish I live in whitstable (20 min drive. Yes Ramsgate is a very good bass mark from all accounts, your more likely to get a biggie rather than schoolies there. If you go to the weatherspoon pavilion, go left along the boardwalk heading out of town. About 600yrds along as you get to the undercliff there is a big bar /reef (think there is a marker in the sea) … surface poppers and stickbaits in the evening

@@theoccasionalangler6956 ahh…interesting. Perhaps I’ll get my backside out of bed tomorrow morning before we go home then. Welcome to join me. Tried last night with the fly rod but it was a complete disaster, so will probably grab a lure rod.

Great video, thx a lot! I'm going to same hotel end of April. Which side of the sea would you recommend? The one where the port is or opposite? Did you try ponta preta? Thx a lot. Cheers, Pipo
@theoccasionalangler6956
@theoccasionalangler6956 Год назад
The side the hotels back on to …… I think the other side is quite wild and you will be fishing into the prevailing wind
@muchachoo84zh
@muchachoo84zh Год назад
@@theoccasionalangler6956 thx for quick reply! I dont mind fishing against the wind. Where there is big waves and wind, there is bigger fish usually. Will take some bigger lures, stickbaits and jigs, 3m rod up to 120gr. Lets see if i can get anything. How much was the "speedboat"?:) Assume the reef is at the pontado sino? Cheers, Pipo

Great insight as to what to expect thanks for sharing. I’m off to CV in January & taking my lure gear very similar to your set up. 🎣

Thanks mate, it’s worth contacting Jacopo Viola before you go. He is an Italian landbased fishing guide, reasonably priced and has heavier popping gear /lures to target GTs off the rocks. You can find him on Facebook.

Did you stay at the RIU Sal Palace? We went in February, had a few sessions from the beach there, not much look but I was using LRF style lures!!! Lovely place and people,

I was at the funana next door, that stretch and point outside the palace was where I was fishing. If I went back I think I would take a lite rock setup 15-90g and pack some bigger poppers

I had a morning out with Inshore Experience, drove up to the top of the Island. Had a dropped run on the Shark rod and lost a big fish just as they were about to land it, hook pull. Good bunch they are, highly recommended.

Sebile stick shads worked well, metal casting jigs 20-40g and fish black minnows (small size) although the black minnows go shredded very quickly …. Find cheap alternatives!
