Cape Wrath Ultra™ Event Director, Shane Ohly, describes in detail the clothing and equipment used during 15 day walk of the Cape Wrath Trail in September 2014.
Useful video. I dare say you could have shed a few more grams off each pack but still a decent weight including 4 day's worth of food. What running shoes did you have on? They looked pretty grippy.
The face looks familiar, did I meet you at A Chuil bothy in Glen Dessary, 23rd of August '14 I think, we were on day one of our CWT trip, I think you were out on a reccy. Apologies if not, but hi again if it was you :)
Hi, After a lot of researches about long distance walk and trail shoes, I would like to try to replace my boots by trail shoes. What's the reference of the trail shoes/gore tex shock? Are you happy with them? Of course, at the end, I will try in a shop which shoes fit well with my foot but I try to find 2-3 good brands/option to try! :) Cheers
I'm confused as to what the 'ultra' element is here. 15 days on the trail isn't ultra, it is average. I completed the trail in 18 days, including 1 rest day so 17 days on the trail, with a 32kg pack containing everything including 20 days food. As an experienced hill runner I would expect you could 'ultra' this trail in around 8 or 9 days more than comfortably. Gordon
Proper old school - taking everything for the whole trail with no resupply along the way. Most seem obsessed these days going UL. I like to strike a balance.
Thanks for a good video of your gear for CWT. I will be doing it I hope in May 2018. You have fallen prey to the myths about DEET though. It is very safe and effective and there are no hazards associated that are real other than it reacts with some plastics.
