man i used to listen to him when i was younger (after he died) when i didnt even understand half the shit going on in the lyrics. coming back to Steez now trying to understand it all and its so insane honestly, he was a genius breaking peoples boundaries but he just received confused looks and essentially prejudice
You know what gets me every time?"They say you lookin good, I'm glad to see you happy dog, They clueless, I'm emotionally damaged"Relate to it like mad
bark True the meaning behind these lyrics in this song are just way more dark and sad though.. especially since he made this a couple months before his death.
"Dancing in the rain, so romantic Imagine you trapped in a hurricane while beefin' with yo' companion" R.I.P Steezy, you were a genius among mortals 🙏🏻
It's one thing hearing this song being rapped, but actually reading the words on paper make it even more evident what a seriously gifted lyricist Steez was by being able to incorporate both emotion and wisdom equally in his music, rare for someone who was as young as he was. RIP #47
I looked up what the meaning of life was and ending up with a fake grin and a light buzz, right cuhz? This is song is dark as fuck, but its dark cause its a song of truth. That shit hurts, but needs to be heard. RIP Steez, you were a genius.
This line can have many ways of interpretation I liked these interpretations of the line: "STEEZ is commenting on the meaning of life in our modern day society. With a society obsessed with appearances, there is little to call “real” beneath the surface, hence a fake smile. In our media/entertainment-obsessed society, the masses of people remain contented so long as they have their “light buzz”, whether that be through television, sports or recreational drug use. Ultimately, our society is devoid of any search for deeper meaning, as we remain content with our shallow entertainments." "He “looked up”. He didn’t look inward, but outward, this left him unsatisfied, with result a fake smile and a light buzz. Also: Light buzz? He’s like Buzz Lightyear! “To infinity, and beyond!” Who went “up” outward in space. Note: buzz lightyear has a fake feeling to his laugh." "looked up the meaning of life and was left with an idea that made sense but deep down he knew there was more to it." "People often turn to Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin) To see if they can discover what the true meaning of life is to them. Here STEEZ is saying that he ended up with a fake smile, Which probably meant that he truly saw the world for what it is and it did not make him happy. and a light buz from the shrooms. Basically he took shrooms but while everyone had a good time on them STEEZ did not like what he went through. The line above this is proof of it. His perception with reality shifted drastically. Extremely sad."
I'm sure he was talking about meditation because really it's only Satanism when he jumped off he had a Bible in his hand and he even tweeted the new beginning when it happened, what if he jumped of to try to be born again since he had deamons on him but that wasn't the right way to be born again
"Evol Love" [Verse 1] Is it evolution or an evil illusion? People polluting our minds, trynna keep me from cruisin' They never call til' they see that you movin' So I'm ballin' without stealing or shootin' It's middle finger to the world now And since I got my meal ticket don't nobody wanna turn me down And before you woulda thought that it would hurt to smile Did somebody call the circus in town [?] My work is profound, even all my Pros found a balance Growing up a fine young man like a stallion I said I wouldn't use the Cali as a catalyst But I'm still mixin' different herbs in the salad Fly shit, bringing different birds to the palace They want that extra bread like we serving up Italian In reality we serving up our talent I'm a serve 'em with these words of empowerment, BITCH [Hook x2] The evil of love is so subliminal And the love of evil is so sinister This damn nation is ran by sinners still Middle finger to ya' pastor and ya' minister [Verse 2] The smile ain't the same no more I looked up and the sky ain't the same no more I looked up what the meaning of life was And ended up with a fake smile and a light buzz Right cuhz [?] It went off like the light bulb I might seem fine, but this smile is only plastered on I'm in the skies and the flight don't last that long They said you looking good, I'm glad to see you happy dawg They clueless, I'm emotionally damaged A lonely little bastard still growing as a man With intentions of only common intentions Cause as a kid my mind been trapped inside of a prison And during lunch time I used to sit inside of detention and study vocab Cause I liked my mama's attention It was more than just letters that I studied for embarrassment Made me better than ever and lessened my speech impediment [Hook x2] [Verse 3] Dancing in the rain, so romantic Imagine you trapped in a hurricane while beefin' with yo' companion Both uncompassionate, Laughing at the half of it But deep down you both wish that you were holding hands I hold it down as a man, sittin' bitter in my pride The lemons that life's given, heard the engine as I stride The lemons less limited the further that I climb Haven't shed a single tear but I'm hurting down inside I know you got the cold feeling, that shit right there Let me guess, it's bone chilling I bust my ass in a restaurant that whole winter Walking home bumpin' Cole with just a warm spirit They say my father had a hot temper When I grow older, I just hope to be alot better But I don't want to have to grow alone, we can trade a chromosome As it pours, we can dosey do down this road together You thought that you was so clever, but ain't no such thing as forever Forever, foreva' foreva' foreva' eva' eva' eva' [?] [Hook x2]
"Dancing in the rain, so romantic Imagine you trapped in a hurricane while beefin' with yo' companion Both uncompassionate, Laughing at the half of it But deep down you both wish that you were holding hands"
STEEZ is by far one of the best hip hop artist that lived, it sucks he wasn't understood that much at that time but now his music is just blowing up since UA, FBZ and the other Pro's got to work and pay respect by making music in ode to him. UA and FBZ do that almost every project/mixtape or album. There is so much more than just their music, it's more about the messages and lyrical content.
A (-) K = 11 4 (+) 7 = 11 AK47 = 11 11 You don’t see the balance? “If Herald Powers music were to go unnoticed by any indie label, than we can draw the line and render pure passion, and pain a non-contemporary element of progressive hip hop. Probably amongst one of the most raw dynamic talents I have ever discovered in regard to his skill as an MC, but he also has made his footprint in the musical production arts as well as film editing and visual art with the release of his full-length 35 minute video mix stream “1 Tape (Drunken Monkey Mix)”. He released the mix November 11 of last year on his birthdate. After about three minutes into the mix, it transitions to a motley-colored, flash filtered two minute obscure video. An amped up anonymous figure in a gas mask clutching on his fisherman cap with his right hand, and his left enswathing which appeared to be some kind of rusted axe weapon in his palm - under the tunnels of a train station. After listening to this EP, admittedly I had only been even more intrigued to the intense depths of his musical expression. His debut LP entitled “Mulberry” released June 2015 was all-in-all one of the utmost extraordinary pieces of art I have ever heard in all of my years listening to hip hop music. Metaphorical machine with flows of pure mercury. Breathtaking tsunami of wordplay that encompasses and maneuvers the drum with ultra-rhythmic adaptability, smothered and concocted in a whirlpool of a multi-syllabic nexus. All of these raw emotions channeled and funneled out so fluently, perfectly in unison with the raw east coast, gritty lyricism on a balance scale with diverse experimental leaps. Never have I listened to a full work from this kid that wasn’t preceded by an instinctive urge to search for more of his music. His story leaves me unspeakable. To remiss is blasphemy.”
Every line hits my heart- no, my soul. every bit speaks to me, I can understand and relate to every word and even the underlying messages that most people don't EVER recognize.. This shits nothing but bone chilling.. Damn I feel stupid for saying it, but it feels like he is talking directly TO me.. but I guess that's why he is my favorite artist of all time, and this song is my favorite. It all just hits home. Good shit, R.I.P. King STEELO!
This song will always be a keeper for me steez was so ahead of his time so foreign and still so familiar spoke so much truths so boldly Long Live Steelo
Educate yourselves. Being a star child isn't a state to be achieved. You are already a miracle, everything life has to offer is already in front of your iii its just really hard to see.
My take on the song itself ~ This song can be interpreted a lot of different ways. I think it's about Love, but I believe it's the traditional love we all think of... As evident by a few lines. Like just listen to the the lyrics most are about him and his fans. How he sees himself and how he thinks they see him. From what I've read and heard it sounds like he knows exactly what these "birds" are after. "Bread" or money, maybe the fame too. And that they don't really care about who he is as a person but only about his reputation. They serve these woman with their talent, meaning after they've received their checks, it goes straight to the women/fans. "The evil of love is so subliminal. And the love of evil is so sinister." But when your on the road surrounded by fake people. (Not meaning his friends or "Pro Era.") but his fans: well at-least the one's he was around. You're bound to feel bad. Seeing all of your friends have such a great time and not share the same feelings is painful. Which could explain the disguise/the skies line. Both feeling sad and feeling superficial, wanting to get high to counter these feelings. As if what you say means nothing as long as you've got popularity and money. "It went off like a light-bulb." Meaning he'd never thought of these woman as just using him. He believed up until that point that they actual were interested in him, which again. Reinforces the whole disguise/the skies side. "With intentions of only common intentions." He always wanted to have power/fame/money. Today it's easier to become a rapper or to become famous, but others aren't so upfront about it. "The evil of love is so sinista'. And the love of evil is so subliminal." Here he switches the lines and instead now he incites that love can be sinister and that we hide our love of evil. Which means love can be used to manipulate. And maybe he's also talking about Morbid Curiosity? It's a stretch but, most rappers talk about killing and such so... maybe. This companion he mentions nearing the end of the song isn't a person but could either be rap itself or the world. I'd like to think the world, seeing as how that's more dramatic. He's trying to make a name for himself without selling-out or changing to appeal to a broader audience. Which is a constant battle of him versus his team (meaning Pro Era/friends/family/producers) the media and himself. Like for example having second thoughts, seeing as how Joey was getting more recognition because his beliefs weren't so ingrained in his music. People would understand him more because he was more relatable. "I hold it down as a man, sittin' bitter in my pride. The lemons that life's given, heard the engine as I stride. The limits less limited the further that I'd climb. Haven't shed a single tear but I'm hurting down inside --" So the world is more accepting of who he is the harder he works for it. Which isn't fair. In the end he say's or "acts" as if he has always known what she was in it for. As if he's breaking up with her (or the world) and that she shoulda' known. Thus is why I believe its called Evol Love. If you have your own theory, I'd be happy to read it.
I Believe(And Sometimes Even Know)that this Song was About his,"Love Affair",with *HIS*,"RAP CAREER"...And I Think the MAIN THESIS,Of this Song Entails the Struggles of Everyday Torment of Bowing Down to Artifical-Superficial Inferiority,And the Song Also Reminds Me of A Experience in My Life saying that,"Utilize Your Talents; The World is Like A Magic Show, but there's NOTHING MAGICKAL ABOUT IT;IT'S ALL ONE BIG FAÇADE"....And Also this Song is A Forbidden Love Letter to Show People lime Us,that this Cycle of Useless Violence and Mental(Inferior)Torture won't End Unless we Put A Stop to It(By KILLUNG THE MAIN SOURCE OF AK-KORRUPTION)[Which is UP WITH THE ALBUM'S NAME]AK-KORRUPTION Doesn't JUST EMBODY AMMMERRRIKKKA(Though,it's the BIGGEST OFFEMDER)It Embodies False Teachings of the World, the State of Spiritual Hypocrisy, and How the World (Should've or Could've) Ended A LONG-TIME-AGO,And The AK-KORRUPTION To Survive Another DEY &NITE Of the Madness of Both $OCIETY,AND THE HYPOCRITICAL(BUT HARMONIOUS) INNER-WORKINGS OF THE UNIVERSE AND BEYOND EVEN THAT...THE TRUE NAME 4 THIS SONG(Should be Called) is,"ARTIFICIAL(SACRIFICIAL)INTELLIGENCE (KNOWLEDGE)A.S.KORRUPTION-A.S.K.4(K)ORUPTION-....And If STEEZ was Still Alive Eye bet he Would've Made A Song called,"HOLY-JUDGEMENT",Which Entails his Whole Philosophy, Life,Peeps(Pro Era),and His Leaving of Pro Era(Prophetic Ear)and his Becoming Of Having A Solo-Career,as well As A New Group....Watch...
Literally bar for bar the moment I heard this verse, I was walking home from Panda Express in VA snow, just moving from CA after an 8 hr shift at a military mall. I was really soul searching . As I hear the bars for the first time Steez described my current experience. I shivered fr and then Steez proceeded to rap the cold feeling bar. His voice fused into my voice of reason. This is a til infinity 2:29
This and Black Petunia are 2 of the deepest songs (still are) I heard a long time ago, felt it was holding back from moving on but look where that got me.. still feel every bar
This nigga was in his own world. In an interview he did he said he was trying to learn how to bend spoons. He said he wanted to try and open peoples third eyes at least just a little.
I was in highschool when people I didn't even like, opened my eyes to a whole genre of music, introduced me to artists that have changed my perspective and life. Those same people have become close friends who've impacted my life just as much as the amazing music they exposed me to while we skipped school n smoked weed in homies mom's house while she was at work. All the mistakes through my childhood, and all I want is to be a kid again. I take a lot of things for granted. But beautiful music, and beautiful people are the most important things in life.
I might seem fine, but this smiles only plastered on. I'm in the sky and the flight don't last that long. They say "you lookin good, I'm glad to see you happy dawg!" they clueless. I'm emotionally damaged........ Damn.
Rip Steez. 47 pass it to the ones you love, share knowledge, understand the knowledge. Thank you for all the true deep words, you will be missed, your music will be forever.
The length of time someone listen's to someone doesn't correlate with the fandom of the person and his art. His work is immortalized for many to enjoy and love for all time, not just you cause you heard him first. Ignant shit. I believe his words, because I believe his pain. You can hear it, and you can feel it in his music. This is why he's a great.
Was fortunate to find steez before he died. I used to bump this shit when I was a 19 year old chicago nigga lost and lonely out in Germany trying to figure shit out driving a forklift for a few years I’m Germany. I’ve come a long way since then and still find my way back often 💪🏾 LongLiveSteelo
