Cap was made even stronger in protection due the changes to rules in defense. Now playing a defense event makes you the defender, so opens up so much for him. Currently playing him in leadership and I like him there a ton too.
Of the early "Marvel" heroes from the 40's Namor, Human Torch, and Captain America, clearly Cap is the most iconic to this day. Also as Caleb's favorite hero, it's no surprise he would be one of the strongest in the game.
Cap is so good. He hits the ground running and has zero weaknesses. He also performs every aspect and role better than 90% of other heroes. Minion slayer? He can do it. Threat removal? All too easy. Want to build around his stats? Sure. Make him ally-heavy? Works great. I was surprised at the poll results. If this is for solo heroes, I really recommend Aggression Cap. I think Leadership is better because it's Leadership, but I think Aggression comes extremely close. He has the defense/hp and threat removal to deal with their corresponding pillars of the game, giving him the freedom to do scandalous amounts of damage and crush even difficult villains quickly. Plus his physical resource generators really shine in the red aspect. He's great in all of them, though. I've only started watching recently, but I was also very surprised to see Wolverine in the S+ tier! To me, Strange and Spider-Ham are in a league of their own and Wolverine doesn't even make my top 10 - he's insanely high damage but puts all his eggs in one basket. Don't get me wrong, he's very good! But, unlike Cap, he has weaknesses. And, unlike Strange and Spider-Ham, his abilities aren't super powerful to the point they warp the whole game. To me, especially in solo, Cap is the closest thing to another S+ hero along with Miles Morales and Venom. They're all the top of my S tier and round out my top 5. Caleb, one of the lead designers, has actually said in an interview he intended for Cap to be strong. It's a little hazy to me now but basically fans and colleagues alike were all saying Cap should be powerful and fun. And, with that in mind, I think he nailed it!
Totally agree, cap is so strong! He is also super fun! Wolverine to me just wins very very quickly. Any aspect works super well if you just have some chump blockers in there and let him deal the damage. I have been thinking he may be the strongest solo character he is, still need some mileage out of him, but while Stalwart doesnt shut strange down, it can slow him, while Wolvy just doesnt care. I found that I win pretty much any matchup in 3-5 turns regardless what I draw and agnostic to aspect. What are the weaknesses you see in him?
I think winning quickly comes to a crash up against the hardest echelon of expert villains. Loki, Ronan, and Venom Goblin to name a couple. That's not to say Wolvy can't beat them, he absolutely can and is powerful, but I don't believe his win rate will come close to that of Spider-Ham. He's also susceptible to unexpected activations in the early game. After hurting yourself with an attack, an unexpected second activation can bring you dangerously low. His thwarting card is absolutely excellent, but if you can't remove the last threat from a scheme? It's awful. It's a fairweather card, better when everything going your way and poor when it's not. Damage? S+ tier. But everything else falls to the middle and he is also a very honest hero. He doesn't have any villain control, no status cards or crazy card draw. Against the middle of the villain pack, Wolverine is absolutely solid. But I think he grows shakier as you go for harder villains and modulars to the point that several other heroes overtake him. Just my take!
@@VillainTheory love this! I took a deck I built on stream up against Ronan and he took him down no problem. Now I really want to have a face off between Strange and Wolverine against some of the toughest villains, could be really fun to try it out. Brandt and I talked about doing this one time Tracked by scent, at least to me, rarely misses, games don’t last long enough for too much threat to build out, and if it does his basic + tracked could probably take care of any side scheme/main for solo But that does make me want to take him against Red Skull haha The best strategy I’ve used for him is to flood the deck with 8+ cheap Allies so you’re almost always drawing one every turn, and then fill with attack cards to round it out, use the claws for the attack and your money for your chump blocker (wait I meant ally whoops) and go to town haha Need to play more of him now!
Oooh I would have to say Spider-Ham, the ability to have better control over web warriors, plus clarity of purpose is really really strong with the pig!
