I keep comparing Hulk with Drax. One angry hero done wrong and one done right. This makes Hulk builds worse with Hulk then if you would add the same (aspect and basic) cards to another hero and play the same archetypes. Hulk is the only hero I hope FFG will revisit.
That could be cool! I think I would rather see more cards that support the Gamma trait rather than mess with the hero cards, I’m worried that would cause some logistical issues for a lot of players Now if we could get like a Red Hulk that would be sick! Or how about a smart hulk promo card that just subs out the hero card lol I have a lot of hulk ideas 😂
Hulk was my first hero expansion only due to he being one of my most favourite Marvel heroes out there in Marvel Universe. I feel that Marvel Champions needs to release a new revised version of him, something like "Incredible Hulk! or something like that to bring his level up to more reasonable level.
At this point, I’m done with Hulk. He’s bad. There’s no arguing that he’s good. Yes, the card pool has grown to the point that you can make him passable. And yes, there are certain villains/scenarios you can play, or certain decks you can build, that make him work well. But I stand by my assertion that literally every deck you build with Hulk would just be better if you used a different hero instead. The history of Hulk, how Boggs designed him, and how he was nerfed at the last moment is basically MC lore by now. They messed up and ruined Hulk, and I’m moving on. Good video though!
Excellent video! It is not easy to give a good analysis of the Hulk. They kind of did him dirty, in my opinion. He has so many counter-synergies in his kit and within the larger card pool that it can be rage indusing, even...HULK ANGRY! HULK SMASH!!!
Man, I read every comment looking for someone to compliment the thumbnail. No one did?! That thumbnail is 10/10! Love it. Hulk is a weird fish. Broken on arrival and not in the overpowered way. These days, with all the help he's received, I actually think he can be fun and can even do acceptably in multiplayer - notably I think in 2-player with a Justice partner where he can indulge in violence without having to worry about helping too many other players with minion-clearing (with some hands he can only deal with one minion that turn)! ...But YIKES, the poor fella has it rough. You can run him with some niche builds that use more of his alter-ego and/or even ignore a lot of his hero kit (except Banner's Lab which these builds actually like), but to me that's painfully tedious and I'd rather just play another hero. Personally, I want to play Hulk like Hulk. I've played him in all aspects but these day I'll only play him in Aggression for the fun-factor. I want him to lose control and break things! HULK SMASH. Ranking the aspects for him is interesting. I like Leadership, Clarity of Purpose is crazy good and he has the hp to set up some allies for Strength in Numbers. I believe that's his best build there, and I put Leadership over Protection in general for him. The public's rankings are interesting here - I think, in multiplayer, Aggression and Leadership are top. But in solo I reluctantly agree that I think Justice has a strong case with the inclusion of the unrushable-villains. But I'm still going Aggression. Small note~ Something you can at least do with Hulk Smash, if you are exhausted or otherwise can't use it well, is keep hold of it by going alter-ego. Also? Get ready for more Hulk support in the X-Force wave soon. Deadpool is a wild (e.g. physical when you need it to be) with 2 THW. "Now I'm Mad!" is great with his large hp letting him get the bonus while safer than anyone else. "Upside the Head" is a super efficient way for him to cover the villain's activation and get the +1 hand size from Bruce more safely. Taunt is a physical and he has the hp to take an extra hit. And the Keep Them Busy player side scheme, with the Assault keyword (uses your ATK), will actually let him remove some threat! Great video!
Thank you! I spent way too long figuring out how to make my skin green 😂 For some reason I blanked on Clarity in the game, that is such a good call! Aggression is great, Hulk like to smash! And I am hoping to get in a two handed game with Hulk soon! Let him do what he wants and let the other puny heroes do the thwarting! Cant wait to see some of his new builds once we get this new wave!
Cards that take affect when discarded (or played from the discard pile) would turn his Enraged "ability" into something a little more interesting without just releasing a new hero card. Appreciate you taking on Hulk either way. Always looking to make Hulk and other bottom tier heroes viable because they can be so much fun to play. The card that allows Hulk to Thwart with Attack is a must for me in solo.
yeah Hulk should be banned from the game except 4 player where the 3 other players can remove though from the villain so he can really smash everything to pieces.
Recently played Multiplayer against Taskmaster. Hulk Protection (perfect defense/defend to attack). No allies, focused more on cheap events, Plan B, Unflappable, Ingenuity, Nerves of Steel, Limitless Stamina x3. His coplayer brought Avenger's Mansion to almost exclusively use for Hulk. Worked great (Hulk never went to AE). Someday I hope we get some Gamma locked cards to give Hulk and She-Hulk a boost.
It would have been cool if Hulk's hero ability was called Overpower or maybe Puny God and it made removing any villain attachments payable using only strength resources lol
These are some very thorough thoughts on Hulk as a true-solo hero, but I do think the video should have been framed/titled to indicate this up-front. Having basically one sentence at the end to say "he's better in multiplayer" definitely leaves most of his strengths untouched. Aggression becomes his top aspect in 2P+ imo, and turns him into a fun and focused beater.
I’m sorry if that was confusing, I have just added the multiplayer thoughts section to these videos and they have historically been only focused on true solo. I play very little multiplayer so I don’t want to focus too too much on that because I am just not as knowledgeable I do think at the start of the video I call that out, but will try to be more intentional with that in the future! Thanks for the feedback!
They should make just one zero cost grey card called Smart Hulk where he gains the genius trait and maybe increases his hand size to 5 but when he uses his Hulk Smash he loses it lol.
I was always surprised that on his ability, it didn't give all his attacks piercing and overkill. Or at least give it to his basic attack. Wish they would reprint his hero card in a pack with that added as a buff for him
Scarlet Witch is bad in solo play? I know her habit of discarding the encounter deck is most detrimental in solo but her kit seems strong enough to make up for it...
All three of those are crazy good in solo. Watch some gameplay or deckbuild videos or check out some top decks on marvelcdb. Three awesome solo heroes!
Yessss such a good card for him that I forgot about! And it’s that awesome, really a testament to how the game is designed that there are so many different takes on it!
I played Hulk through expert difficulty MTS campaign and had a blast. Aggression was the least good, while leadership was top with Protection because of the amount of readying available in them.
