I noticed in the movies he rarely refers to himself as Captain America. In his mind, he is still Steve from Brooklyn. It's the rest of the world that routinely calls him Captain America or Captain Rogers.
This is the True Super Power of Captain America. not his strength or speed, but his words. by using his words he's able to rally the people around him. he's able to inspire regular people, soldiers, hell even villains sometimes to do the right thing.
I am German. Back here a lot of people see cap as propaganda for america. And maybe he was. And maybe he makes Americans still proud. But to me he his a symbol of freedom and justice. The MCU-performance from Chris Evans moved something in me, and this "propaganda-superhero" from the "arrogant americans" is my favorite hero and an great example. Not an arrogant patriot, but a true hero.
Remember that it was a German scientist, Dr. Erskine, who created the supersoldier serum, and it was he who chose Steve Rogers to be enhanced--not because he was a perfect soldier or patriotic, but because he was a good man. At the moment of his death, Dr. Erskine pointed to Steve's heart to remind him to always be true to himself and his principles--not as a German to an American, but one good man fighting for freedom and justice to another. And Steve has always kept his promise, even when it meant that his own country would consider him a criminal, as it does now. He has always stood for the same things, even if America no longer does.
Not at all, Hydra agents in Shield were all American Citizens and this movie is really looking at America's duality. They may look like good guys but underneath there might be a lot of shady stuff happening.
There was one freedom fighter in India, his name was Subhash Chandra Bose. His famous line was "Give me your blood, I will give you freedom". Captains line is similar to Bose line. Price of freedom always high, and it was always pay by blood which was flooded in war.
because he knows that once cap says something all those who are not hydra will just get behind him , and he was surounded by people who were not hydra so instead of loosing time and energy he just you know he accept it , it is more simple , it's like if jesus enter the classroom and says that your teacher is judas , lol even if he is not , he'll be like ...uh yup ? LOL
Let's not forget a technician who refused to launch the carriers or the pilots murdered while trying to get their Quinets in the air to give Cap cover and fire support
@@briantannenbaum8110 bruh nah, did you see how deadly the look in the people walking were, while the people guarding had that moment of mutual realization and made the decision to fight back
.."The price of freedom is high. It always has been. It's a price I'm willing to pay. If I'm the only one, then so be it." That right there is what defines the character perfectly. That's what it means to be a hero. Chris Evans has nailed the character perfectly. He exceeded my expectations of what I wanted Captain America to be on film. Now if only Marvel will give me what I want which is an Avenger call to battle in one of the films. Just one time and I will die happy. lol
You missed one key part of the speech. Right after Cap says he's willing to pay the price by himself, he says, "But I'm willing to bet I'm not (the only one)." That shows his faith in people. It asks everyone who's listening to look inside themselves and decide what's right. I'd follow him anywhere.
@@SpFlash1523 Same here to be honest, I didn’t think Captain America was a great hero at all, and neither did I read the comics, but what the Russo’s and Evans managed to bring on screen is absolutely brilliant, especially in TWS and CW. Not only Captain America, but they made Bucky/Winter Soldier so cool. Bucky is one of my all time favourite characters.
The price of this DVD is high. Always has been. And it's a price I am willing to pay. And if I'm the only one then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not.
I still don’t get how he doesn’t come off as corny. He’s a blonde hair blue eyed clean shaved white man from the 40s called Captain America. He’s all about fighting for freedom and the American way yet he does it with so much heart and comes off as so decent and down to earth that he’s my favorite character in the MCU. Truly impressive stuff from all the writers and Chris Evans.
A lot of emotions come with that flag and moreso than any other superhero, Cap lives with the prejudice both for and against it. So many people miss that he was a good man, raised on the hope and belief that we could achieve great things if we band together, cared for one another and lived with the morals and ethics that we were told mattered. He's a man that tries to do good, not just for his nation but for everyone. Like he said, "I don't like bullies, no matter where they're from."
Because truth and love have no gender, color, or age. They come from the heart, the come from the soul. Ironically Cap is still teaching us to not judge a book by it's cover. That even if he's the "perfect man" that many have come to associate with oppression in the states, that he's more than just his skin. He's an American. No, better. He's a human. And we shouldn't judge humans by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Chris Evans chose to deliver Cap's lines with absolute sincerity. He firmly believes in everything he says, no winking or smirking. Chris Reeve did the same thing as Superman. It's important for the character, too. Inspirational speeches have always been Captain America's signature.
Because he represents the ideal America, one free of prejudice and separation. That's why when Fury attempts to "separate" Shield from Hydra Steve shuts it down. He points out Shield is compromised and the whole thing needs to go. There are no half measures that can save a corrupt establishment. He represents moral good, the everyman just trying to live a good life.
I love the fact that the moment Cap told everyone of what's truly going on, everyone just decides to believe him. I think that to them, Pierce and the rest of Shield being the 'bad guy' is much more plausible than Cap being the villain which goes to show just how much influence the name Captain America could bring
“The price of freedom is high. Always has been... and it’s a price I’m willing to pay. If I’m the only one, so be it... but I’m willing to bet I’m not.” When I saw Cap stand up with a broken shield against Thanos and tighten his strap in the face of his army, I thought of what he said here. Cap will forever be my favorite Avenger. Oh Captain, my Captain!
Chris Evans is so good as Captain America that I actually hope that nothing happens to him in Civil War. he's right up there with Downey as Iron Man, Jackman as Wolverine and Reeves as Superman
+Mike Dominico Although I agree Evan's done a nice job, I think having Crossbones in the movie doesn't suggest a good ending for the cap. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't come back, after Phil Coulson's resurrection in Agents of Shield, no coming back would surprise me if it comes from Marvel.
+Mike Dominico I bet Cap's not gonna die, but someone important will, like Black Widow. I was hoping it would be similar to what happened with Coulson in the 1st Avengers movie. Cap and Tony will realize they shouldn't be fighting each other.
The part that gives me chills is the walk up from the bad guys killing the guards when Cap says the price of freedom is high. Just the way the sound is minimal and the music is subtle makes it so dramatic.
What should be noted is those guards were reaching for their weapons. They just gave a glance to each other and both knew they had to stop the squad, or at least attempt to. They knew they were outnumbered, they knew they might get killed for it, but they knew they had to try. Cap was right to bet on not being alone and not being the only one willing to pay the price of freedom.
You can tell precisely at 0:26 that Cap hates what he's about to say. He's single-handedly demolishing a symbol of protection that his would-be wife spent DECADES building.
AOS was always meant to be part of the MCU though with entirely self-contained storylines. Various episodes or story arcs had connections to the MCU movies: Skyes/Daisy's initial speech showing reflrections of the Battle of New York Cleaning up London after Thor's fight with the Dark Elves The fall of SHIELD Theta Protocol turning out to be rebuilding the Helicarrier used in Age of Ultron The Darkhold showed up in AOS first The President Ellis shown on the news in several episodes was the President when Ross signed the SOkovia Accords SHIELD was the policing agency for the accords
I love captain America in the MCU. Not just for his shield and his action scenes and combat skills, but for his principle beliefs and values that keep him morally strong. He's a leader I would gladly follow into battle with.
Lmfao Sam's speech was pointless, unnecessarily long. Steve's speech is for exposing Hydra how they shot Nick fury, letting SHIELD agents know that people supporting Hydra can be anywhere, even right next to them and how they need to be stopped to save innocent lives. On the other hand Sam's speech was like "I'm so great look I don't have super soldier serum, no blonde hair or blue eyes yet I am Captain America"... like he is doing the world a favour by being Captain america? Asks them to stop calling Flag smashers terrorists..that was dumb move. Asks them to do better without providing any real solutions and leaves. That speech was poorly written. Stop pretending like it was good.
@@niallwalker6544 in my opinion sams speech was good cuz his points were very good and it made quite some good sense. But he was wrong in a few things like the flag smashers not being terrorists which they clearly were cuz they blew up buildings with people in it, they kidnapped/almost killed government officials, and they stole money and ect. Also yes Sam did ask them to do better even tho he had no solutions to make them do better but Sam did not pick sides, he was in the middle which was nice cuz the flag smashers wanted to recreate a world without borders and provide resources to those in need. Yet the government was against that but Sam told them to do better so maybe seek a plan to help people with borders, but hey that’s just my opinion sams speech was not perfect but it was not bad either.
@@niallwalker6544 Calling Flag smashers terrorists and the _Do better_ were cheesy, yes but other than that his speech was good, he did raise some good points. Privileged people obviously won't understand the what "I don't have super soldier serum, no blonde hair or blue eyes yet I am Captain America" means to non-privileged people, let him have that. His speech wasn't the best but stop pretending like it was the worst.
@@iamgroot2810 it’s terrible because he reduced a man that he was willing to follow into any battle to blonde hair and blue eyes. Steve wasnt chosen because of his looks, but because of his integrity. Sam’s speech stomps all over the kind of man steve was on the inside and turns all his success into some kind of race issue that the mcu had never brought up before until they decided to put a black guy in this role.
This scene alone proves how inspirational Steve was. It’s not just about being the best soldier, the strongest, fastest but someone who can inspire others around him. Steve was all of those things. I think one thing John Walker missed was inspiration. He’s a good soldier, good fighter, but he didn’t have any of the qualities that would’ve made him a good Captain America.
There's a line from a comic book with Captain America. It was specificaly "Civil War: The Amazing Spider Man-Issue 537," or something like that. In the comic, Captain America is confronted with Peter asking about how to focus and perservere when the media disagrees with you and hates you. After starting to respond, this line is added at the end, which is just something monumental. "Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole *country* decides that something *wrong* is something *right.* This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole *world* tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole *world-* No, *you* move."
That’s an awesome quote but I feel like it should come with a significant caveat. You should stand up for your morality but there’s some issues where there’s room for disagreement among reasonable people. Unfortunately, that caveat is almost never mentioned and when it is, people don’t take it seriously, thus leading to massive amounts of unnecessary conflict. But to reiterate what you were saying, yes, if you definitely know in your heart that something is right or wrong, fight for it with every fiber of your being and never give up. If the whole world tells you to move, you tell the world “No, YOU move.”
Winter Soldier to me atleast is the closest thing to perfect a comic book movie has ever gotten to. the story is great and well written, action is some of the best in the MCU, Bucky is the only actually scary MCU villain, and I adore the theme they explored of giving up freedom for security. Also you have to admit this is one hell of a inspiring speech.
I was watched this movie so many time... but now Im crying for the first time when I thinking about the truth that come from his motivation word. in this real world... freedom is still a high price
This movie did the concept of Secret Invasion better than the show. The weight of this speech was just well handled. The discomfort in having to tell the good people in Shield that they'd been taken over by Hydra, that the people standing next to them might be an enemy ready to kill them. Yet he still makes a strong call to stand and do the right thing. The MCU at its best.
We need this moral integrity today more than ever. If you find yourself in this position in your life, no matter the scope of it, even if it's just the angel and demon on your shoulders, ask yourself: what do you want to say to yourself tomorrow? Did you sit by and let the demons swarm, or did you stand up and do the right thing? What would Cap do?
It's really amazing to think how much Steve's words rippled through both SHIELD and Hydra at this moment, shaking everything to its very foundation. It was only a few minutes after this speech that an entire war started. Everyone in the Triskelion started a firefight, and all across the globe SHIELD and Hydra agents started killing each other. Agents of SHIELD helps show this quite well. For months on end, right after Steve said this, all of the shit in existence hit the fan.
This scene made me almost cry.. No fictional character can inspired me like Cap do. He is a hero to me in real life. Wish I could meet Chris Evans wearing a Cap's suit one day.
Seeing Sam say “did you write that down first or was that off the top of your head” made me instantly think of his cap speech in FATWS. Love the parallels.
“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” - Thomas Paine (The American Crisis) It took me 8 years of watching this film breaking it down piece by piece to finally realise that Cap is the real "Winter Soldier" that the title refers to. A steady patriot defending his country even against itself and its tyrannical failings.
Good comparison, but the name actually originated in the comics when a Russian nationalist that Steve and Bucky had fought alongside had stated that the US and the Germans and each sides allies would have their weapons, and their powers, and their super soldiers. But Russia would always have its winter. He was one of the individuals who initially captured Bucky and brainwashed him into the WInter Soldier along with the first of the Red Room.
1:02 I'm CONVINCED that this dude single-handedly changed the course of MCU history with his iron-clad resolve. I 100% believe he would be able to lift Mjolnir, as well. It's a shame they never brought him back for a bigger role. He literally stopped Hydra from taking over the f**king WORLD.
@@bolobalaman well thor is a beast but Mr captain america is also a legend and can wield the hammer and literally crashed a jet with hand to hand combat
He does reappear in Avengers: Age of Ultron where he is given the name ‘Cameron Klein’. He helps evacuate civilians from the Shield Helicarrier and is later mentioned by Nick Fury during the Infinity War post credit scene by name.
Captain America should have said something like this to Iron man during Civil War, that would make Stark think about sacrificing the freedom of the Avengers over to a possibly-corrupt power.
When Cap dies in Avengers 4, I will most likely cry myself to sleep every night for the next year afterwards. I never really cared for Cap a year ago. But after re-watching the films he is in, he has become one of my favourite characters. During Civil War, I was with Team Iron Man, because I love Iron Man and I thought he was right. Now, after re-watching it, I'm conflicted over whether or not I should've gone with Cap or Iron Man. My dad was with Team Cap because he grew up with Captain America. I grew up with the MCU Iron Man.
They both had good reasons for their positions because Tony unchecked created Ultron who tried to destroy all of humankind so he felt he and the team needed to be kept in check and not have too much control....Cap knew that after how HYDRA was so well hidden within SHIELD in Winter Soldier, the government was very flawed and unreliable and if they manipulated the Avengers, they would have to follow the government’s agenda and not necessarily be able to go where they were needed....I think Infinity War proved ultimately that Captain America was right to not trust in the government and the Accords because despite all the MARVEL heroes rising up (Cap included) to help defend the world from its greatest threat because they were its best chance as no army or government had a chance against Thanos and the Black Order, all Ross cared about was saving face and his bruised ego. Instead of focusing on the real problem, he just wanted to arrest the Avengers who refused to cooperate with his agenda. Ross never had the world’s interests at heart but only his own.
and Marvel is trryna make HIM a HYDRA sleeper agent?! Marvel imma need you to watch this scene and pull back that bullshit issue where you make Captain America a HYDRA agent.
Alexandria Lawson Oh same here...I gave up caring about comic books over twenty years ago...with all the retcons, reboots, resurrections, rebrandings and reversals...it just became too damn frustrating.
Captain America, from patriotic man to slowly become vigilante. Iron Man, from the man who doesn't care anything but him to slowly become patriotic. Their story arc is incredible
The price of freedom is high, its the price I'm willing to pay. If I'm the only one, so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not. - Steve RogersCaptain America I am black man, I do not have blonde hair or blue eyes yet I'm here. - Victim America
"There's more to humans than our bodies and minds, something you Skrulls will never understand... our SPIRIT!" Captain America (Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes)
I remember when I first saw this in theater. It made me instantly fall in love with the character of Captain America. Ever since then he has been my favorite superhero. Team Cap for the win!
