The Irish, like the Americans, got their liberty by violence and rejecting Socialism. Though that's been betrayed in the last few generations in Ireland.
Based on a true story. The term boycott was coined after Irish tenants followed Parnell's suggested code of conduct and effectively ostracized a British estate manager, Charles Cunningham Boycott. The boycott is used most frequently by labour organizations as a tactic to win improved wages and working conditions from management
that's right, I only recently found out the derivation & that was thanks to a short video featuring Fyffe Robertson. it's worth a watch if you're not already familiar with it
Erin go bragh meaning "Ireland Forevery" I'm Irish on my mother's side, Dalton's, first came from Ireland in 1606, about 100 of them but half didn't make it through the first winter. Thanks RU-vid for down loading this gran movie showin how the poor down trodden farmers of old Ireland and their struggle to keep their farms, feed their families and then have to pay high taxes hoping not to loose their farms to the over powering land owners. Todays date 4-8-23
We all need to boycott the corporations who are set on imprisonment in your own home, this movie sends an important message from the inception of this vile plan, 1947 to 2019.
Imagine if millions of us Boycotted the corrupt businesses in our country. In this movie, they used such actions instead of violence; here we do neither, so it only gets worse. Unique cameo for Donat, a fine actor. TY for this movie. :)
Great film - great cast - all the best Brits - great script and directing. I've been looking for this film for along time. Thank you so much. Now wasn't there a movie biopic called Parnell. That is one I haven't been able to find.
Yes!!! I wish more people acted on this! Big chains, big brands and corporations only have the political power we give them our money to buy it with! Reduce your consumption, reuse what you have and then when you need to buy,buy from small local traders who aren't exploiting the land or workers and keep your community alive!
Yes, it is true. The word is named after Captain Charles Boycott, an agent of an absentee landlord in Ireland, against whom the tactic was successfully employed after a suggestion by Irish nationalist leader Charles Stewart Parnell and his Irish Land League in 1880.
My gggrandfather led the Cork Land League in the league's greatest victory, the Kingston Estate Episode. John Mandeville's statue now stands in The Square, Mitchelstown, having been murdered, or as the Coroner's Report in 1888 put it, "done to death by Lord Balfour's government."
Parnell was making progress with the crown about Ireland, until it was made known of an affair in Britain. I'm pretty sure of that, I could be wrong though. In the end he failed no matter the reason.
So sad that you have everything twisted and complicated . Certainly, you will be measuring each word and motion under your mental microscope...and not watch/enjoy a MOVIE.
