Captain recently learned to touch a bottle with his nose. His trainer Emily began successfully adding the verbal cue "nose," and Captain reliably touched the bottle when cued. Next, Emily began to intersperse other known behavior cues like "sit" to help Captain form a discrimination to the new verbal cue "nose." She has also begun clicking Captain for NOT touching the bottle off-cue (not included here). This video (a snippet from a longer training session) shows two instances in which Captain is cued to sit and does another behavior instead. Emily dealt with these "errors" perfectly. 1. Re-cue. First, Captain walked away when cued sit, and Emily got his attention with a kissy noise recall. As soon as he redirected and came over, Emily cued "sit" again, and Captain sat and was reinforced. 2. After touching the bottle on verbal cue, Captain went to touch the bottle again when Emily cued "sit." Emily refrained from clicking, walked away, Captain followed, she cued a sit, Captain sat and was reinforced, and Emily cued "nose" again, which Captain did successfully.
