At Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center in 1998, Elton and the band gave the title track from his 1975 album (the first to ever enter the Billboard Top 200 at #1) a slightly slower rendition than usual in concert, which only adds weight to the autobiographical song’s reflective lyrics. That is John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, Hellecasters), who toured with Elton from 1995-1998, providing mandolin accompaniment and Music Director Davey Johnstone, still leading the band on Elton’s Farewell tour, switching back and forth between acoustic and electric guitars.
