Lol, agreed! After she said it was a 5min game that overstayed it’s welcome, I immediately went looking for it on BGA. I have to say, it’s a really fun filler game. Perfect to start a game night with. Could even be used to determine 1st player for the night’s main game. This one is going to sell a lot of copies.
Camilla would probably hate nearly every game I own with only 1 exception that I know she gave a 9 to. I don't have Captain Flip, but love playing it on BGA.
I surprisingly liked this game quite a bit. I play very heavy games in general but this was a very nice change of pace. Great iteration on BGA as well.
I heard so many board game channels talking about this game so I gave it a try on BGA where otherwise I would not be attracted to trying it. I got addicted to it. Cute and really fun. Easy yes but fun. I was surprised at how much I liked it.
It’s just a fun filler type game. I really enjoy it. Surprised to see a score of 5 here as that seems so low for a breezy fun game like this. Not every game has to be heavy much as I like those games too. Sometimes it’s nice to pull a game out and just chill and enjoy. That’s what this game is. If it’s wins the Spiel that wouldn’t be a bad thing as it’s a perfect family weight game. That said I hope Skyteam wins it as that game is just so so good. Captain Flip gets a high recommendation from me too though, if you take it for what it is.
Been on my wishlist for awhile and after I played on BGA it moved up to a must own. I doubt it gets played at game night (unless an expansion makes it more interesting), but this is definitely a purchase to play with my kids. Definitely better than a 5, and a 7.5 is probably where it is at. It would be an 8 or 8.5 if it could appeal to gamers a little more.
This game is awesome. I took it up to my moms this summer who is 78 and she loves games like wingspan for example and she said this is her new favorite. Simple quick silly and fun. Sometimes you just want that in a game.
Its excellent at being a game that gets families into games. Virtually no rules off the bat, but then the game shows itself as you play which is perfect for non gamers, and thats what the spiel des jahre is for. Irs not for gamers.
I am excited for this game. I think it looks really fun! My question is, are all the cooks (for example) on the “wrong” side of the tile? Like I always put cardboard chits on their “correct” side, but I feel like that’s probably not possible in this game. Curious.
@@cursivecurses I don’t think you have the same board game craziness I do 😅 The “right” side is the rounded side. And the “wrong” side is the flat side. I’m guessing this explanation isn’t any better, but I’m hoping someone knows what I’m talking about
@@gailwondowski3207 Not THAT kind of board game crazy, no. ;) I still don't fully understand how you explain it, but I get that the tiles are not identical on both sides - I just opened my copy, stacked two tiles and you can clearly see the white paint bleed to the side of the tile, on only one side (the "top" I suppose) of each tile. Then I went and found two identical tiles, since there's a pair of each. Specifically I grabbed the two Swabby/Cartographer tiles. I thought for sure they'd be reversed, but I was wrong. The Swabby is the side with the white showing on the sides of both tiles. I'm guessing they just chose an ordering for the token sheet (e.g. all Swabby tops/X's bottom, then all remaining Cartographers top /Y's bottom, then all remaining...) and there's no mathematical rhyme or reason to what's on top/bottom beyond that. I hope this helps! P.S. Edit: it occurs to me the side with the paint bleeding over (I called it the "top") is probably what you meant by "rounded" side.
@@cursivecurses Top & Bottom! That genius! That will help my explanation a lot haha 😆 I would never have noticed the white on the tile (so kudos to you for the attention to detail in helping me!), but I will notice the feel, so I will alternate between top & bottom when I pull. Thank you so much for your help! I love kindness of the internet. Hooray board game community 🤩
I agree with Camila and Tom. The game gets stale quick and has no depth to explore. So if it wins, it's a weak SDJ winner because it fails to captivate at both family plays and game nights. Which is where games like Ticket to Ride or Carcassonne shine. The lack of player interaction also hurts it for me.
I think they do a great job of allowing each reviewer to voice their own opinions. A lot of times the disagreement comes down to the individual’s preferences. The panel reviews are usually for more popular games which are often popular because they’re good so you can expect more positive feedback as a result.
