Recruiting Girl is the best opening move. Playing last, in turn order, is good, because everyone that achieves the same first receives the Milestone, if it is on the same turn.

Board Games are still a growing hobby but at the same time it still feels like a relatively small group of friends. Really enjoyed meeting you in Tampa a few years back and playing a 2-player game of My Father's Work.
My group and I really like the game. I like the tension it sets up right from the first play and with the larger number of suits it has, it means that someone can be short of a colour early on too. I always like it when it comes to the table.
I like multidecks (like the gamelib)! I think the Everdeck and the DIY Multideck are the best 2 I've seen so far. I have an Everdeck and play tons of games with it! It's an 8 suits x 15 ranks game, and I can use it to play Hooky too (it has letters). I'd recommend checking out those 2

Ordered the Mocha and Baksheesh expansion as soon as we saw the video. It came in and we just got it to the table and wow did that really change the whole game dynamic!! Thanks for pumping out such great content and giving reviews from the perspective of a couple that games. insight into how games play at two (even when not designed for just two) brings such a huge value proposition to us .
Agree with the difficulty at the beginning of the game. I've played it 3 times and every game was a speedy disaster. I will stick with it for a while, but at the moment I'm finding it more frustrating than enjoyable.
It feels like the Intro tune audio has been leveled out, thank you x11........Ooooor my hearing has now been permanently damaged. ahh well life's tough.
Hand of Fate (though largely out of print) is a much more interesting (and visually better) alternative to this. I really dislike the mediocre art here.
I think the expansion is ok, not great. It really forces the player to rely on small cost cards more often than not and I found myself using the 3. action card more than the original area expedition base game. It’s a bit too difficult for what it really is. Ares Expedition seems to be a LOT more forgiving and allows the players time to really develop their city. I think one idea I’m going to use is after mars is terraformed then, with the cards already bought play through crisis mode so it’s not as tough
The designer is an Indonesian who lives and works in Japan. He sometimes goes back to Indonesia. Hope to see more Indonesian designer recognized worldwide.
Not surprised by this review based on the video game. Hell of an expensive deck-builder though. (Atleast for the KS prices. Which is why I didn't back). I've you're interested in this, but daunted by the price. Give Slay the Spire a try on one of your favorite gaming platforms. It's litterally everywhere.
I love board games so much. I remember in 2010 when I got into board games I thought, "I wonder if there is a podcast about board games" and sure enough I found Dice tower. It was off to the races after that. Just hearing about all these new games that all sounded amazing. I couldn't get enough. It's 15 years later and I'm still excited to play games just the same as when I first started. Thanks Tom! Thanks Dice tower.

As a solo player, I didn't mind the linear nature of it at all. However, I agree with you that the "two large infodumps" of the story was, perhaps, not ideal - at least for someone like me who solves puzzles slowly. It would have been nice to have the story distributed more evenly, to where you get a little dollop of it after every puzzle or something similar to create momentum. As it is, although I enjoyed the game overall, there was such an obvious "intermission" point after the first expository sequence concluded that I used that as a place to pause...and then didn't come back to it for several weeks. Not a dealbreaker, but as I said - not ideal.
I also love the video game, I'm glad to hear that the board game is awesome too. Thanks for the intel fellas, I look forward to playing this multilayer with my family. Can't wait to play as my guy The Defect 🤙

Not only have Wyrmwood has credible sexual assault and abuse allegations thrown at them, but they responded to them in a tone-deaf and glib manner. Can we stop giving these pieces of human refuse oxygen?? What does a game company have to do for the Dice Tower to stop covering their products? Because I thought sexual assault was that line, but apparently I was wrong.
Contention games nailed it with this one. I enjoy having Slay the Spire on PC, Android, and as a board game. I soloed acts 1,2, and 3 three times in 1 week, and it felt like rediscovering why I played it in the first place. There are new synergies for some characters because some of the card's texts are altered to be more board game friendly. Just a couple of notes on the video: there is a claw pack with 8 claw cards in it if you want to give yourself the chance to build that kind of deck with the Defect (I guess you could use it in another deck too) There are 2 of every common card, 1 of every uncommon, and 1 of every rare.
