Yeah, but I always found it bizarre that it described the other kids as being from continents, but for Linka they specified the country. Once the USSR broke up they switched it to 'Eastern Europe', but I don't know why they couldn't have just said 'Europe'.
I remember watching this show way back when. I think it aired on Adult Swim at like 3 or 5 in the morning. They should definitely remake this show for modern day purposes especially now that world leaders are pushing to go greener. I think this show would definitely educate future generations to be cleaner. The first episode aired in 1990 only a year before the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. I think it's cool that this TV show isn't biased or have any kind of American anti-communist propaganda. Communism is actually based on the community and the environment hence the name "communism" comes from "community"
I loved this cartoon as kid! Looking back, I'm amazed at how diverse this cartoon was. We need more cartoons like this, where there's heroes and heroines from all over the world :)
this was one of the BEST shows back in the day when i was a kid. I mean it had everything. a nice plot, good animation, cool relate-able characters, awesome powers, a cool super hero and it TAUGHT kids not just about important facts but needed lessons in life. Tv shows nowadays suck compared to the old stuff
actually i said nothing about ponies. Its the same as you, you are not using your real photo and i am doing the same and since u went straight to ponies means you secretely love them.
Our world is in peril. Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, can no longer stand the terrible destruction plaguing our planet. She gives five magic rings to five special young people. From Africa, Kwame with the power of earth. From the North America, Wheeler with the power of fire. From the Soviet Union, Linka with the power of wind. From Asia, Gi with the power of water and from South America, Ma-Ti with the power of heart. With the five powers combined they summon earth's greatest champion - CAPTAIN PLANET!
***** I was going to say the X-Men animated series but you beat me. X-Men the animated series came out in 1992 rather than 1990). But X-Men has always been about civil rights and social acceptance so it wasn't much of a surprise in itself.
I never realized it either. And maybe that's a good thing, that as kids we didn't even see it as odd to have kids from Asia, Africa, and the USSR working together.
I just realised this is one of the best campy and cheesy kids shows ever and seems like a masterpiece compared to whats popular today. It was ahead of its time with its diverse cast and it environmental messages
They should remake this show. Particularly that this generation is more environmentally and socially conscious. And I reckon they should make it more mature themed and less cheesy and cliched. Like target alcoholism, islamophobia, homophobia, sex, sexism, ice, pot, body image issues, domestic violence, racism, Putin and maybe even a little bit of mild language. That would get everyone's attention from ours to the new generation.
R.C Jones They have something similar to what you're describing a show with environmental themes but with maturity. It was back in the 70s in Japan: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Space Knight Tekkaman and Casshan the Robot Hunter.
Even though this cartoon is old from the 90s, that opening scene had so much articulate animation and amazing artwork. You don't see that type of talent in today's cartoons like family guy.
I didn't care for show much, but I think that intro is awesome for every second it lasts. The music, the way animation is set up, with people twirling and dolphin jumping into sun and stuff. It's absolutely awesome. It's pretty well drawn & animated too, compared to cartoons at the time.
One hell of a show. I hail the creators for what they have tried to do and for all their effort. Captain Planet did it's best to make me care about the environment. If I have failed to do my part for the planet I certainly can't complain that I didn't have inspiration.
sharkezzy Like really gay (could he do anyThing) If I remember properly this guys with the power of heart was Really disappointed he had NO REAL POWER!
sharkezzy ah but is it really bad? what happens when they're done saving the planet party time get out on the town his power gives him first pick of the ladies or all of them just to annoy the other guys like hey you know you love me points ring
Loved watching this as a kid with my sisters before I had to worry about energy bills, gas prices, and cap and trade schemes. As preachy as it could be, Captain Mullet was still pretty cool. I still cut up those plastic six pack rings for the fishies.
"Three rings for the elven kings under the sky" "7 for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone" "And nine rings for mortal men doomed to die" "And one for the dark lord on his dark throne, in the lands of mordor, where the shadows lie" "One ring, to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them!"
"One by one the free lands of Middle-earth fell to the power of the ring. But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Mordor and on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-earth."
This was another classic cartoon all nationalities together as one. The cat with the heart ring was my favorite south America. All were special! They don't make them like this anymore.
As much as I wasn't fond of this cartoon yet still watched it enough, is it sad to say that I'd rather watch this again than most of what shows nowadays?
You can be one too! 'Cause saving our planet is the thing to do, Looting and polluting is not the way, Hear what Captain Planet has to say: "THE POWER IS YOURS!!"
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world."
Man's voice: Our world is in peril. From Asia, Gi with the power of water. And from South America, Ma-Ti with the power of heart. With the five powers combined they summon Earth's greatest champion - CAPTAIN PLANET! Kwame, Wheeler, Linka, Gi, and Ma-Ti: Go, Planet! Man's voice: The power is yours!
i love this anime when i was kid, i always want the power of fire!, its a coincidence that im taking environmental studies in college right now, i didnt actually thought of taking it, then i realized that captain planet was my inspiration :)
Absolutely loved watching this show when it used to come on Cartoon Network and I loved that Gaia was voiced by Whoopi Goldberg. I wouldn't mind seeing Captain Planet get a nice reboot for the modern era
not gonna lie, that was pretty hype. say what u will about the quality of the shows themselves, but the 1980's KNEW, they KNEW how to get you Super psyched for a cartoon O.O
you can tell this was from one of the first few episodes because Captain planet began when the cold war was still going on aka Soviet Union and when it was over they changed Linca's country of origin to Russia
Earth, Water and Wind can be destructive as well. Earthquakes, Tornadoes and Tidal Waves, these are disasters that occur often, claim upwards tens of, and sometimes even hundreds of thousands of lives and aren't really controllable. Fire can be life-giving in its own way. It gives warmth and hell, the cooking of food with fire may have in fact influenced Human evolution.
I wish Film Score Monthly, would release the first run of the DIC version of Captain Planet and the Planeteers background music from the first 3 seasons. By Tom Worrall.
