I love the boat tours but, getting the Q&A with Captain Q and Ran-Day was awesome! Grew up on a Sabre 28 in the Chesapeake and am now passing the love down to my own children on a Compac 19. Would love to see you you guys tour one of those or a Cape Dory which are also very pretty classic vessels. Cheers

This was a fun video. I enjoyed hearing about you folks and look forward to hearing about Randy's yacht purchase journey. The thing i particularly enjoy is learning about various boats. In the next year i plan on buying a good used one for myself. (i used to live on an Islander 30). You have brought to mind some I had forgotten about or even ones I didnt consider for the type of journey i hope to take. For some reason you have found many in a good price range as well.... Thanks again :)

Listening to the 'old timers' talk about sailing is what encourages my love of the older designs. They are solid, made with the thought of going out in the heavy weather, the bronze fittings are too dear for the new boats and the fibreglass is hand laid and thick. I sail my 78 Cape Dory 27 on Lake Ontario in 30 knot plus gusts and 10' seas. She can take it and thrives in those conditions. She's all I need and has all that I want in a boat. Thanks for encouraging these older designs, they are well worth saving.

Great episode. I like the tip about learning the language of boats. Early on my wife complained about why there were "so many different names for ropes" so I said "pull that rope" and she said "which one!!!". HaHa. Keep up the good work both of you. Watching from the UK sometimes means that some of the designs you feature are unknown to us but the essence of the episodes and the general information about design and history are always valid.

I've seen many boats you have featured that I would love to own, but at age 79 I feel I have waited too long to learn to sail. But, of course it is fun to live vicariously through you and other you tubers. Thanks and best wishes! :-)

As much as I enjoy the regular episodes, this one was so heart warming, and as much infornative as the others. I can't imagine two more personable people, that work so perfectly together. Well, maybe Laurel and Hardy, or Abbot and Costello? An appropriate sense of humor is what makes tiring of these videos never happen. I really was touched by the purpose of sea dog. I keep asking myself, why doesn't he just have a real dog? Now I know. I share that pain . Lost my best friend way too soon too. I have 40 plus years sailing experience, and owned 7 sailboats. I've watched thousands of saling videos. This channel is 40 points!

And congratulations Randay on the massive achievement of owning your own boat - looking forward to seeing all about it mate. Well done fellas - I enjoy and learn from every episode you guys make. Thank you for bringing back great memories! Seeing Captain Q on his Sunfish made me smile. The boat I learned to sail on was a Sunfish on a small mountain lake at Camp Greenville, SC. No one was there to show me "the ropes" so I learned by myself. Then my father bought a Hampton One, 18 foot one design sailboat, and off I went. It had a main, jib, whisker pole, and a trapeze harness rig. Took my wife on our first date on that boat. Thanks again for the weekly episodes.

I'm of an age where I also grew up sailing on the Maritime provinces of Canada and New England and appreciating many of the boats and designs that you have been looking at. "Classic yachts" always hold a special place in my memory and it's great to see so many of them still sailing and on the market for a reasonable price. Modern boats don't have the same appeal, they seem to be built more for accommodations first and sailing second. keep finding these lovely craft.

Scariest moment brought back memories of being alone in my grandfather 22' Beachnut canoe as a teen. Wearing hip waders attached to my belt i flipped it trying to untangle the anchor rope wrapped around the brand new that day Johnson 4HP attached to a side transom. Fortunately this was on the MIramichi River in New Brunswick where you normally poled your way instead of using paddles due to the shallow waters....except where I flipped (The Forks)...my waders filled with water and took me 7 feet down instantly. It was only when the canoe and I drifted downstream to sandbar that I was able to push up to air. Later we retrieved my grand father's tackle box from the bottom only to have its lid pop open a foot from the surface where watched some of his lifetime collection of salmon flies drift away. We had to take the motor in for servicing and I never wore waders again....50 years later I am sticking to the "no Waders" rule and I have vivid, non-fond memories of that time underwater.

What joy I accommodate myself with each new episode, it's as if I do not require curvy female forms clad in the most meager of bikinis to look forward to a delightful portion of an hour on RU-vid?! As I watched your videos for the first time back in January 2021, my delightful Bride cruised past my shoulder and noted, "You should order some suspenders like that man's... you'd look CUTE in them." Loved this. I had a similar dunk, stayed on board, however different details…I was 11 years old, and doing the female version of “checking the wake” as my dad would say, he was at the tiller, we were in stinky weather, sailing our Pearson Ensign back through Plum Gut. I was crouched hanging off the back stay , when a huge wave just engulfed me, totally under water, when the wave receded, the first thing I saw was my Pop, white faced, grabbing for me. All was well, it took me becoming a parent myself to realize the danger I had been in. I returned to the tarp my siblings -five of us and two cousins were huddled under to stay out of the weather. When I remember this, I also remember the old drunk man yelling to my Dad on a dock in Montauk “ hey onion head, what are you doing with all those kids? “ my dad was a dapper bald man, but more importantly spent time with us, and gave us all a love of the sea….

Fred you’re very kind but I don’t think there’s enough to go into a book. Just being on earth for seven decades plus does load up hard drive but retrieving it and printing it out as a whole Nother issue and frankly it’s just a reminiscence of one person and as we know everybody has a book in them filled with interesting tails. I do admit to having been quite lucky in my life and I think that’s sort of the title of a book David Nevin wrote about himself

We were moving through, just SW of the Bahamas, coming up through the Windward Pass to Miami. Sails out, engine off, making about 7 knots - only the sound of the water as we moved through it. So many stars - just beautiful. I can close my eyes, now 25 years later, and still see it.

This is just great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and real world experience. And yes, “just the act of going” is the best aspect of sailing. Especially on an old classic. Also as someone who has had dogs aboard for 20 years, one must be exceptionally strict and careful about the safety of these friends.

If I were summarize this interview with one word I wouldn’t find a word better than “Enriching” in the full sense of the word. Captain Q, who seems to be of my age, has brought to me the joy, happiness and the agony of having to wait at Cairo University for five to six years in Mid Sixties before we could possibly receive newly Published Books on Architecture from The United States, how lucky today’s Generation are with all the knowledge in every field at their fingertips. Another mystery solved concerning Captain Q’s Suspenders which I might add that the color scheme of Red & Green are actually Complementary Colors according to theory, whether by accident or by design it is a happy choice. As for Ran-day, his presence, whether behind or in front of the Camera, is always cheerful and inspiring, in other words, icing on the cake.

My week was so busy that at several times, I actually had to think about what time and what day it was. And then at 4 PM today, Thursday, something went off in my mind that said "Time for a new Captain Q video!" Thanks for making so many of us happy!

Just delightful to get you know you both better. Regarding your great friendship with R-D - there really is a strong kinship shared by those who love the sea and appreciate the magic of sailing

That was fun and informative! I have not sailed in almost 20 years but you guys have got me thinking...... (and thinking is usually the first step to getting back onto the water) Thanks!

Thank you so much for this video! I enjoyed it immensely. I would’ve put money on the proposition that you two were father and son or at least grandson...congratulations on forging a lasting friendship.

I will go with older boats every time; Alberg, S&S, Garner, Tripp designs and many others. I’m not into dependency on beam width for initial stability. Then again, I’m 68 and I know these boats and they please me far more then modern boats. I also believe they are more sea worthy in the right hands.
