What a nice, classic Ted Hood designed boat. I love the centerboard keel, especially for going downwind in heavy weather (retracted, it reduces the chance of the keel getting sideways to following seas and causing the boat to broach) and for getting into shallow waters, which this steel hulled beauty would love to do here in Southeast Alaska! The bunkboards must take the place of lee clothes, I'm guessing. More secure and less intrusive. About the only modification I would do is to outfit the wood stove with either diesel or propane. So much less work for long distance sailing than wood would be. Plus, if it were diesel, you could run a line from the fuel tank and never really have to worry about having fuel for heat. Thanks for showcasing a lovely, classic, well thought out bluewater boat. "They don't make 'em like that anymore"!

I used to own a 1984 cole 23 swing keel. What I have found with yachts is whatever you need fixing usually costs triple to quadruple the price you thaught it would. So be prepared to empty your wallet on a regular basis. Remember BOAT means bring out another thousand.

There's only one Captain Q! That being said, getting a new captain to review boats would be an awesome thing to look forward to. Thanks for the great videos.

O Captain! My Captain! BY WALT WHITMAN O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won, The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring; But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells; Rise up-for you the flag is flung-for you the bugle trills, For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths-for you the shores a-crowding, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning; Here Captain! dear father! This arm beneath your head! It is some dream that on the deck, You’ve fallen cold and dead. My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will, The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done, From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won; Exult O shores, and ring O bells! But I with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. Source: Leaves of Grass (David McKay, 1891)

I would like to point him to truth away from the mostly lie about truly being saved by truly knowing God our Father Good common since reasoning thinking and testing YOURSELF to find truth are the ones who TRULY find God and LOVE God our Father Religion of man people make good common since people not want any thing to do with the one and only true creator Father God

He shouldn't retire completely. I think if a special boat comes along that requires an historic perspective on both design and designer that Captain Q should make occasional guest appearances.

@@YachtHunters I'm in the middle of refinishing teak too. I chose to varnish with Epifanes after reading a review of different products in a boating magazine. It's a heck of a lot of labour but looking forward to the finished product and your next episode!

I guess I discovered your channel a few years late. I absolutely love you guys and your content! I’m currently in the market for a sailboat after a long hiatus. I grew up racing out of the west river in Annapolis and now it’s time to introduce my children to sailing. Captain Q you are a gem and I wish I could go sailing with you….and you too Ran-day! Thank you for your wonderful show! I just wish there were more sailboats in the Nashville TN area!

And notice the USCG Documentation number on the wall, meaning that you won’t have to pay sales tax on this vessel. A lot of brokers fail to mention this little bit of information.

I sailed a 1987 Nonsuch 26U on San Francisco Bay for 20 years. She is surprisingly fast and is extremely competitive in snotty weather with the first or second reef. She'll be dry and doing over 7 knots while other boats are fighting the wheel with their rails in the water! The 26 is also great in light air while the 30 ft version is better is heavy winds. So much fun!

Please explain why anyone would spend two years and one-million Dollars to restore beautiful and venerable sailboat to about 99.9% complete and then turn around and put on the market for $325K. Even a death would not suggest that is logical or even possible. The only possible answers are that the million spend is incorrect or that the million spend was based on an erroneous calculation of market value....i.e. the person was just a dope.

A great surveyor is worth his/her weight in gold. The one I was lucky enough to hire found a crack in an outdrive that to a 'normal' human might have gone unnoticed. Sellers insurance covered the complete overhaul and a replacement mid drive housing. Including all new hardware. Saved thousands, and everyone was happy.
