The very weird thing about this show, is that both the hero - Captain Scarlet, and the villain - Captain Black - are both actually dead men. We know about Scarlet, but how Black returned to earth, is not known - I expect the Mysterons would have destroyed his ZERO -X spacecraft. But he looks dead. And he can do superhuman things, too. He's basically a reanimated corpse controlled by the Mysterons.
He returned the Earth with the other Zero X members that White mention in this episode and the pilot. Black was the first of three people that the Mysterons took over without killing them. Hence why his skin is pale like the Terminator after the police massacre.
Y'know what 's weird? When I was a kid, I was gifted a bunch of bargain store bootleg toys that didn't belong to a branded collection, like Transformers, or He-Man, so I had to make up my own from-scratch world that went with this stuff. The world I made looked and felt a lot like Captain Scarlet. I basically parallel re-created Captain Scarlet without ever seeing it. It's spookily like watching my kid self play. As a puppet. Very bizarre.
I grew up loving Captain Scarlett. I went round the house singing the theme song constantly. It drove my mum and dad nuts. I still sing it sometimes ❤❤❤
The constant new sets and vehicles entranced me as a kid, Captain Black's voice scared the bejesus out of me, and the action kept me interested. Nothing's changed.
When you've done the original, I hope you check out the 2005 reboot 'The New Captain Scarlet' made by Gerry Anderson. Its a pretty good re-imagining of the 60's version done in CGI. Only two seasons were made, great shame they never made any more. ITV did mess up the show, splitting it into two 15 minute chunks in a kids Saturday morning show!. I strongly suggest you take a look at it, same premise and with relatively minor changes. I was lucky to meet Gerry in Bristol back in 2008 and he kindly signed my box DVD set of the show. It was in production, literally across the courtyard, at Pinewood from the Thunderbirds movie (which is terrible) back in 2005. Gerry famously turned down a large sum of money to pose with the pink Lady Penelope car from the movie as he loathed what they did with his greatest creation. Speaking of reboots, Thunderbirds Are Go 2015-2018 was fun, made by one of the people involved with Lord of the Rings.
The Angels are Symphony, Melody, Destiny, Harmony and Rhapsody Names are... Dianne Simms, Magnolia Jones Juliette Pointon, Chan Quan and Karen Wainwright , In that order (I think)? The characters had full histories if you can dig deep enough?
There's a well-known photo that was in magazines back then, shows all the Spectrum agents around Colonel White's table, the usuals, grey, ochre, Doctor Fawn, and another one... looks light grey to me. Bit of a puzzle for the fans, that one.
Hi Alexa. Glad you love the series. One thing you should know about The Mysterons, and one that was never told in the series, is that it is the Mysteron consciousness is only prevalent in the Mysteron base on Mars. The Mysterons actually left Mars centuries before why, not known, but they left the red planet leaving behind their home, and retaining their consciousness within the city's computers. This is never explained fully in the series, but is from the annual books, so IS canon.
@@alexachipman Yes, there was a whole world of all that stuff! Paperback novel tie-ins, annuals with a mixture of text and comic strip stories for the Christmas markets (a British thing?), bubble gum cards, sweet cigarette cards, toys with functioning bits like plastic or rubber missiles which my older brother fired into irretrievable places like the coal fire or the bushes. Great days! And in the case of Gerry Anderson shows particularly, a weekly comic called TV21, and another one called Countdown, offering stories based on the shows.
@@alexachipman Yes indeedy. There were three annual books published in 1967, '68 and (joined with "THUNDERBIRDS") '69. There were also three paperback books by John Theydon in the 60's. One of them being an Angels paperback. There were annuals later produced in the 1990's when the series got a re-screening here in the UK. MANY books (including comic strips, reprints, etc) Alexa. Nice to see you are a fan of this classic series.
It's a much darker series, but the characters have more humanity to them, something the original show lacked later on. I still prefer the original, but for what it is, New Captain Scarlet was brilliant. For a TV budget, the animation, though dated now, was incredibly impressive. I heard at the time it came out it was the most expensive TV show ever made in Britain.
@@alexachipman also a quick guide to which angel is which Destiny= blonde hair, french accent Symphony =blonde hair, American accent Rhapsody =red hair, English accent Harmony =black hair, Asian Melody =African American, deep south accent
I'm pretty sure Symphony was Captain Blue's lady. He always simped extra-hard for her. He was a good'un, Captain Blue, not like Captain Black. Captain Black was a marionette allegory for why you say NO to drugs. Very enjoyable video, Alexa.🖤
It seemed very strange that a pilot whose expertise is in flying a combat jet would land and apprehend someone by themselves on foot. I dunno, but it feels very contrived. Great reaction tho 😊
Hi Alexa you might like this ,I have a book on Gerry Anderson titles, story goes the mysterons end their war with earth ,spectrum is disbanded and personnel go back to the military or civilian jobs ,captain black returns as you said he has no control to normal and retires to a cottage in Dorset on the south coast ,love your channel Alexa when I was a postman I delivered to the voice of the French angel your fav ❤,all the best Mark 😊😊
@@stevetheduck1425it WAS Symphony Also more detailed backstories in other media has said that prior to joining Spectrum Captain Scarlet and Destiny Angel were an item, this relationship was ended when Scarlets parents disapproved of it.
