The element of Robin Hood paying Sir Richard’s debts to the Abbot of St. Mary’s is from the medieval ballad A Gest of Robyn Hode. Glad you’re enjoying what is tied with Errol Flynn’s film as my favourite version of the Robin Hood legend. The Blake’s 7 podcast I co-host - Straight Outta the Federation - has been doing a few Robin of Sherwood tribute episodes.
AI Overview Learn more … The 1985 film Ladyhawke was filmed almost entirely in central and northern Italy, including: Campo Imperatore: A prominent meadow in the Apennine mountains of Abruzzo Rocca Calascio: A ruined mountaintop fortress near L'Aquila where Imperius, a monk, lives as a hermit Castell'Arquato: A town in the province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna Torrechiara: A castle in the province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna Soncino: A town in the Lombardy region Belluno: A town in the Veneto region Viterbo: A location in the Lazio region St. Peter's Basilica in Tuscania: The church where the closing scene takes place
Random thought-- the moral of the movie is to never carry out a complex campaign in a short period of time. This movie does a nice job of showing it. Afterall "for want of a radio crystal, a proper river assault boat and a bit of rehearsal ....... the campaign was lost". Equally random question- have you ever attended a world war 2 reenactment? I was at one where they had volunteer doctors and nurses from a local hospital recreate a battlefield operation using period equipment. Most interesting.
I find it fascinating that you know so much about pwcai ! How did you happen to come by this? I was in the play, "Harvey" at the Reperatory Theater, along with my then-girlfriend, who played Myrtle Mae; she possessed the amazing ability to burst into tears on cue, accompanied by howls of anguish, every time Harvey's name was mentioned! The audience absolutely loved it! Oh, and at the end, as we were taking our bows, Harvey's ears were seen moving above the stage curtain at the back.
I know this is going to come as a shock, and we are not supposed to do spoilers, but if I remember right, this Robert fella will become an enemy of Sir Guy and the Sheriff.
Herne's Son Parts 1 & 2 are my favourites of the entire series, though later episodes in Season 3 also come pretty close. But I'm biased the reason I mentioned in the previous video's comments.
Although Michael Pread is clearly a better actor, I think they did a pretty good job of continuing the series without him. I love this story in particular.
Connery's slightly wooden acting is one of the things that kept me from fully engaging with his turn in the show. I enjoyed season three's writing and technical aspects but there were times I was pulled out of the immersion by lines being delivered like they were being read straight off the script! Still, it was a shame the series had to come to an end. I remember Jason Connery saying it ended because no one was willing to put up the money for another season (probably due to dwindling viewing figures)!
I love Gulnar! You know there is a statue of Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff on the site of the old hairdressers where he worked in the 50s/60s . It contains a camera that records and broadcasts people doing the Time Warp in it's presence. I think Will and Little John in this episode are hurting because they let themselves believe in Robin's cause and viewed themselves as unstoppable in the fight against injustice. The reality of Robin's death has all but broken them.
I live just a few miles from Lichfield. I can see spires of the cathedral from the top of the hill. It was a much more important town in medieval times than it is today, before it was bypassed by the coming of the railways, and still retains a little of that character, although much more of it is Georgian and Victorian. Arianrhod appears in the Mabinogion. Her story is linked to The Owl Service by Alan Garner, a genuinely disturbing contemporary novel for children set in Wales, at least it was when I was 11 years old, which was made into a tv drama in 1969. It might be worth a look.
There is some really impressive acting in this episode from Clive Mantle and Ray Winstone, who both do a great job of conveying the grief and loss of direction John and Will have suffered as a result of Robin's death. Nice to see evidence of Much maturing a bit as well, and Robert certainly earns his right to lead the outlaws as a result of his actions through the episode. I like that Richard Carpenter doesn't make it easy for him, as it is only natural that the Merries would regard this aristo with great suspicion to start with. Regarding the woad, I do wonder if the make up artist had been watching too many Adam Ant videos at the time! I think it's a smart move that Marion doesn't immediately return to Sherwood. The memory of Robin would still be too raw for her to resume that life easily, and I am sure she feels obligated to her father not to scorn the pardon she received.
That blackboard with the differences is now sitting in the Ulster museum in Belfast… and by the way.. im Protestant so i can confirm. we do keep our toasters in the cupboard, 😂
Just a fact, had it not been for my grandad changing his mind about what route to take to visit his sister, my grandad, nan, and my mum would have all been caught in the glengormly police station bombing
7:21 A lot of broadway musicals have "Recap" songs at some point after intermission that recaps piviotal events up until that moment remind people how we (the audience) got to this point. Rent has "Halloween" The Producers have "Betrayed" Hamilton has the middle part of "The World Was Wide Enough"
The boats they used for the river assault were actually designed for the Baylie bridge operation. They were never intended to be used for a combat assault. It was just all they had.
Centaurii was Robert Preston in his last role before his death basically playing the same character he played in "The Music Man". He elevated this film by his presence. If you watch the behind the scenes clips, you will hear high praise from his younger costars.
Good entertainment but there's a lot of historical inaccuracy, one of them was the idea that the British tanks were just advancing down a single road. In reality, when the Germans attacked, the British tanks drove off the roads onto the farm land and went after the German anti tank guns as shown at 4:50 minutes on *"Ambush of the Irish Guards | Operation Market Garden | September 1944 by utuber - Liveth For Evermore* It says I quote " *The tanks of the 2nd Irish Guards began deploying off the road, to engage and get around the enemy.* *One of those tanks was that commanded by Lance Sergeant Bertie Cowan of number two squadron* *who was the commander* *of* *a* *Sherman* *firefly* *"Maneuvering into the fields to the left of the road, Cowans firefly spotted a German tank hidden behind a farm house."* *Firing one shot the fire fly knocked out the enemy tank after which the crew was seen scrambling out from it.* *Running towards British lines the crewmen ran into the 2nd battalions intelligence officer Captain Eamon Fitzgerald who forced them at* *gunpoint to get on the back of British tanks and point out other German positions* "* A Bridge too far attempted to make the British tanks look incompetent. 😑
Love the fact that you are the only reactor watching Gerry Anderson content. :) Really enjoy your videos. Whatever you do, make sure you watch 'Dominion' as the final episode and not 'Grey Skulls'. 'Dominion' was meant to be the last episode but a different episode got cancelled during production, meaning 'Grey Skulls' was made last as a substitute. Many times with viewing orders for New Captain Scarelt 'Grey Skulls' is placed at the end and it is very underwhelming to end the series on.
We'll see what the streaming service ends on. Not safe for me to read episode titles they have tons of spoilers right next to them. Reminder: Complaints about episode orders will normally result in instant block but you were kind about it, just please consider this a warning, thanks!
I loved this movie, too. I was hired as a pilot at American Airlines in 1987. I'm nearing the end of my career at American, but I still like to see the AA symbol on those ships.
The book was written by Richard Matheson in 1971, I bought it in paperback because Steven King was quoted on the back cover "HELL HOUSE is the scariest haunted house novel ever written. It looms over the rest the way the mountains loom over the foothills." -Stephen King 😮😮😮 If you can scare Steve King you've got it going 😳 plus there was talk of FOX doing a remake of the book a few years ago, with today's tech they could add parts that were impossible to create in 1973, which would make it a really good scare 🤨😎
Great review as always! 7:47 I think the idea here was that the Federation already had not just the prototype but his drafts as well, and believed they could simply continue from there, or reverse engineer it, or something(whether or not their belief was true or just arrogance).
There was a VHS version of this back in the 90s that reworked the ending and changed it from being a dream to being a real attack that the mysterons reversed once it was done, they basically said ‘you’ve seen what we’re capable of now, so be better or we’ll do this again’
Shown as the season 2 opener when I first watched it, plus we all need a friend like Blue to on occasion, save us from ourselves, Riggs and Murtaugh from "Lethal Weapon", in my opinion are another good example, keep up the good work as always
