I will say, Paul, the video that the camera picked up THROUGH OBS with your compression WAS DROPPING FRAMES OFTEN, making the video hard to watch personally. As a viewer, I'd say do NOT make videos with it yet until the software you use gets updated to support the camera/capture card's 4k imput.
It does just fine capturing 4K 8-bit from the GH4 so I'll probably do that for now, I need to set up faster storage to capture the higher bit rate option though, I think that's what was causing the dropped frames
Paul's Hardware Oh yeah, I forgot you mentioned the slow external storage! If the frames stop dropping with something faster, then awesome! On that note, OHH MAN Paul replied to my comment. This made my day!
OK Paul. So We have the Thunderbolt 3 with our Asus X99 Deluxe2 Motherboards.. Which I am not familiar with. What is it 's purpose?? I am such a newbie it's not funny.. LOL :D
I find myself legitimately happy when I see a Paul upload, because it feels like I can hang out with "virtual PC dad" again! Love the content, love the doggos, love the personality. Here's to you!
Your problem is propably HDCP2.2 related. HDCP is a bitch. It works fine with 1 source and 1 screen, but it starts bitching around the more you are trying to do. get a HDMI 2.0 Splitter with edid emulation and you should be fine However, thats the reason SDI is so popular in broadcast situations. It just works and has no hdcp crap embedded
I think when I get back I'll upgrade the system, will try out keeping both capture cards and adding some high speed SSD storage, either SATA RAID 0 or an M.2 drive
Yes. Normal video has a frame rate of 30 frames per second. 24 frames per second video will look slow or stuttery. To some video producers that is a desired look. It looks more like film. Because movies are shot using 24 frames per second. So that is actually not the fault of the capture card. That's just the frame rate that was selected. I went to school for video production that's how I know these things
Paul, this is completely unnecessary for recording videos for RU-vid. Having 10 Bit color will only increase storage requirements, and slow down your workflow. PC screen capture might be useful, but 21:9 capture will have letter boxing making the image difficult to view for your audience. I do have some experience with capture cards. Thank you for the awesome reviews and tutorials!
The main reason I want to capture 21:9 3440x1440 is so I can run live gaming benchmarks and show the actual footage/framerate. I agree that 10bit color is wasted on RU-vid, but having better source footage can improve the quality of final renders. Thanks for the comment!
He might be trying to future-proof himself. When HDR monitors become more popular his 10 Bit videos will look much better than other channels on those monitors.
Lars Bolduc Interesting Idea. The Dynamic Range is determined and limited by the camera's sensor. 10 Bit refers to the amount of color data. As of today, RU-vid will not accept HDR videos. Unless the final media is 4K Blu-ray with Dolby Vision or HDR10, the cost and storage requirements increase exponentially. Camera tech is changing and improving each year, future proofing for web content is difficult.
Lars Bolduc I had the opportunity to play my 4K footage on a 4K UHD 10 Bit HDR TV. The image looked amazing! Streaming 10 Bit HDR video will need an incredibly fast connection and processor.
I understand it's definitely not possible today, but maybe RU-vid will someday open up the option for HDR video. I'm very excited for HDR, can't wait for the Windows update which will bring HDR support and for monitors to come out so I can buy one!
anyone else notice the video get choppy when it switched to the capture card recording at around 7:00 ? i think it's because of it recording at 24fps but the video is rendered at 30fps
Paul, I recognize you are thousands of miles ahead of me, technology-wise. My question about this DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K is waaay less complicated. Never mind 4K, either (LOL). I have been able to capture video from the TV using it and the Blackmagic Media Express, but I have been unable to hear the audio of any given portion of captured media WHILE I am capturing it. The audio is there and I can hear it only AFTER I perform the capturing process. Would you know the trick to make it happen? BTW, I am using a MacPro (Late 2013 model) and the DeckLink is inside a Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt 2 box. Thanks for your attention!
Yeah I would not go lower than 30 fps for even b roll, the rendered videos are going to be 30fps which im fine with for reviews, but 30fps for the entire review with a 24fps b roll, its gonna look weird and not look smooth. Maybe if the entire video was in 24fps maybe but I can't stand 24fps on youtube.
Jacob Frashure Well Our don't see in FPS, and to successfully make 24fps fluid, you have to use different techniques like in the movies, there is a reason why fast movement looks smooth at 24fps on your TV, I sure as hell can see 24 fps though, anywhere after 40fps looks smooth to me, others are different, not everyone is the same.
Paul I thought id stop by and show you how to use your decklink properly to capture 422 10bit in prores 422 with file sizes that you can import into premiere or davanci. Anyway this will solve all your issues. I know I watched this video awhile back but out of respect for youtube creators I thought id mention how to overcome this process for studio workflow. Anyway click on my logo and you can check it out later as in premieres 630 tonight on my channel. I don't believe in posting links on other peoples channels.
What is the best way to stream 3 cameras to the internet live? Should I get a Blackmagic Design Decklink SDI 4K Capture & Playback Card with three inputs? Is that all I need?
Paul. I Could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that if you feed some of those capture devices more FPS than they are meant for they will not work IIRC. I could be wrong, just throwing that out there.
The disadvantage to using anything Blackmagic has always been software support. Their hardware seems to be able to do what it says but the number of hoops you have to jump through and the amount of problems that it seems to generate are generally not worth the hassle.
I just can't manage to get past seven minutes until that annoying drum banging background noise makes me quit your video. I'm leaving this message because I am aggravated by it. Thumbs down!
Hello! Maybe today u find some solution to record 10-12 bit 4:4:4 or 4:2:2? I use declink quad hdmi but seems it can do high bit depth on single port while for few there is HDYC 10 bit (mean 4:2:2) 😢
This is probably irrelevant now Paul, but it's probably because you have your GH4 set to record DCI 4K which is a higher resolution, which is technically "True" 4K which is a resolution of 4096x2160, instead of UHD which is 3840x2160. Which the Intensity supports UHD not DCI. If I am correct.
I am thinking about purchasing this for OBS 4K streaming/recording. I have a HDMI 2.0b splitter that works for outputting 4K60 to my monitor and to a Smartooo 36r1 downscaler that scales the 2160p60 to 1080p60 for my Elgato HD60 Pro. Everything works perfectly but unfortunately only captures 1080p60. My question is will the Decklink Mini Recorder 4K accept a 2160p60 signal and capture at 2160p30? I would be using the device to capture gameplay from a Playstation 4 Pro and it only outputs 2160p60 as it's 4K resolution. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sir.
maybe the gtx 1080 is outputting with HDCP ? in that case you NEED the hdmi IN/OUT so the card/gtx can sense the HDCP from the monitor and allow the signal to go thro . had the same issue with my canon 650D it WOULD NOT allow me to capture anything with the elgato HD60 UNLESS i had it connected to my monitor (i switched the signal in on the monitor to DVI to use it and the capture still works )
I'm using RTX2080Ti, it's great card but sadly can't get reference picture. Can we use this card to get 10bit output to second monitor? so basically I'll use 2080 for rendering and work monitor (1) and if this card for reference (10bit) picture on monitor 2
Did you tried 29fps instead of 30fps from 4k monitor? I wanna record a 4k30 monitor for Mixed Reality and barely found useful reviews on Blackmagic 4k capture card.
Paul, do you even have anything that can display 10-bit 4:4:4 at 4K? Nothing on the internet plays that, and you're a RU-vidr, so I don't see a lot of this stuff as a current issue. While it may be in the future, I suppose, you'll probably have a compatible capture card by the time the interwebz catches up to such a high bitrate file.
Why don't you just use shadowplay or something like that to record the video off your screen? Kind of ironic to have a video about how you want to record such high quality video then use a camera pointing at a monitor. That's how lazy people like me record their screen.
So how about a comparison of popular capture devices versus capture software? There's still a lot of aspiring RU-vidrs out there. Just tossing an idea your way...
have you tried to use obs via nvenc? if you go to advance setting and choose nvenc preset to "lossless" you can get very high bitrate video (about 3.4gb per min) and I am not sure about color sertings but try nvenc lossless settings. (no frame drop)
suggest me a product. I've Sony PXW-X70, Windows PC, OBS for Livestream to Facebook. Currently using WiFi streaming from Camera but it's low in quality.
Are you using this card still? I am looking for a card that can capture 4K (UHD), but also 2560x1440 as I don't want to record footage on the PC I'm playing with. 30 FPS is fine. Do you know if this card accepts the 2560x1440 resolution?
doesn’t work because of hdcp copy protection it registers when you’re using a display because of edid signal wich identifies the display as a display. you’d need a 4k hdcp killer. eventually a hdmi edid manager would make it too ;)
Thank you for done this video. The spec of thsi card in their website doesn't show Rec.2020 support. Thank you for video, this helps a lot. And, by the way, what camera you use for shoot this video? The 4K Res looks great!!!!!
If I don't care about 4k but just want to record my PS3 and maybe stream it on twitch, what is the best? A portable like the Elgato shown in this video, or a PCI-E one?
Hey Paul, I have Windows 10 Pro installed on an hdd in my old pc, if I move that hdd to a new pc, (new hardware), will Windows deactivate, and if so, do I just need to type in the product key again to reactivate? Also, this is a legit version of Windows, not bought off of a shady website. I know I asked this on an older video, but I'm asking again because it's an older video, I don't know if you still check those comments. Thanks for all of your help!
If I were into that as much as you, I'd try to find out what Kit Guru uses. Oh, and Dmitri of Hardware Canucks, but especially Kit Guru. His video is exceptional.
Wait this is bad, you dont need a capture card, just put DSLR to your GPU, and then open up VLC or QuikTime and you can capture raw in the resolutions that is supported on your DSLR. NOTE: Take out your memory card from your DSLR and put it on external output.
Hi Paul. It's nice to see that you are trying to improve the quality of your chanel. I really like the content that you provide us. I wish you the best of look with your project. Could you help me find a link to some free video software to help me edit the content from my Samsung S6 phone. Regards. Mike
so what are you gonna do about 4k video game capture in the mean time (while they update their shit)? Have you ever used Atomos anything before? I've always gone by the moniker "buy the best because it lasts (quality and tech upgrade wise) and usually does what you want it to without much BS" and that has kept me from spending more in the long run.
If you are going to capture 4K video than it will take a lot of space and a good storage-solution to cope with that. compression defeats the purpose of high quality 4K capturing as you end up with a source material that might be even worse than going native 1080p.
Hello Sir, I purchased one Decklink Mini Recorder and one Intensity Pro 4k. I installed both the cards in my pc but only one input is coming related to pro 4k and decklink mini recorder is not working. Please help
i know with certain 4k panels you can only get an image to extend etc if hdr colour mode is set to on. may be the issue you are having. it sounds wrong i know. but the samsung panels need this for example to show the image even when detected from windows.
Paul Hello guy. could you help me please, this hdmi adapter cable that you put in the camera on video 5:45 minute, has on ebay? could send the link of the same cable so i can buy. Thanks a lot man.
flahr1 Yeah, i still got an BNC Cable lying around, first used for 10Base 2 Ethernet (with those Terminator Plugs at the end) and then as an Antenna Cable for a Radio Scanner.
Paul I've used the black magic decklink cards for sometime and here is my experience with them. The cards just downright don't support any other screen ratios apart from 16:9 and some random 4:3 resolutions and also using the decklink with PCs as input requires the pc to be outputting 30 fps in the graphics driver. If you ever get a black screen in media express, chances are it is incompatible settings and resolution. Black magic products are built for very specific situations and they don't tend to get updated with features often. Even my Black magic camera doesn't have a delete function :)
Seems like it might work for low cost streaming set up for camera in a capture system, but that's about it? Or if someone wanted to do video work to a computer instead of an sd card for some reason? Seems an interesting product, for sure
I used a similar DeckLink 4K capture card for a livestreaming project at university and it really sucked. the hardware might be great and specs sound really good, but man the software compatibility and the driver issues were really bad.
