All the modern cars have very sophisticated computers. The cars come tuned with fuel input to engine in optimum quantity, to ensure that the car dos not lose power. Now computers of all the modern cars, 'watch' the driving style (sudden speeding, sharp turns at high speed, harsh braking, frequent acceleration, braking after turn, over speeding etc. The quantum of fuel injected gets adjusted with the driving style. smooth driving enhances average and harsh driving reduces the average significantly. I am using Fronx Alpha Automatic. All the driving parameters are monitored continuously and can be seen on cell phone by the driver after every trip. It has helped me to have 12 + average in bumper-to-bumper traffic, 15 + average in comfortable city driving, 17 to 18 in city when the car is able to achieve 35 to 40 kmph speed, 21 to 24 on highways with cruise control and driving in 6th gear. I think that the most important factor regarding fuel economy is speed and the effects of wind resistance on the car. If you cross 60 kmph, then wind resistance increases exponentially making the car engine to work harder and increase fuel consumption.
