Who would have guessed that in 2023, after we all blocked or paid to get rid of ads, we'd be back watching them for nostalgia?? So many of these ads I remember from my childhood, such strong Déjà vu and nostalgia. I've digitized a few VHS so I know it's a pain, thanks for making this
@@chrispalmer3548 They were shit at the time, bro. No one liked ads in the 90s and 2000s. Like most people, I paused them out of my vhs recordings. They're cool now because of nostalgia.
So much optimism and aspiration in these commercials, sad looking back knowing what the future became. Especially how far Australian has fallen in the space of 30 years.
@MattExzy it's only people who enjoy being outraged. They have always been around but they have more of a platform now . Mostly cranky boomers The same generation that was in these ads
So much more effort put into the adverts, cinematic all of them, and they got Buz Aldrin to do the holden apollo advert. Effing amazing, a better time.
How could you leave out the Holden SS Thunder ad where it’s basically just a Ute doing donuts in a cyclone to Thunderstruck by AC/DC. It’s the most iconic Aussie car ad
"When I think of the Apollo project, I can't help but marvel at the technology involved" Yes, right, take one mediocre Toyota and put Holden badges on it. Technological marvel!
Even as a kid I realised how cars were styled after aircraft. From the fins of the '50s to the stark lines of the '80s. It's a shame SUV's are everywhere now. From blocking my vision when pulling out of a car-park to having overpowered headlights placed at head height. SUV's make every aspect of driving worse.
@@user-ys2nf9bt7s Nothing beats a classic saloon I reckon. It'll be a long time before I drive an SUV let alone a hatch. Wagons and saloons have my heart.
I knew it was going to hurt that much, and I still watched it. To be fair, as a kid I had to get in and out of the back seat of the two door Holden Jackaroo LS. Doors are expensive, apparently? Unless it's a sports car, in which case they charge you more for two less doors. Also, to be fair again, it was a well constructed and capable 4WD vehicle. Basic, but that's everything by modern Ute standards.
I remember a tv ad around 83 when I was around 8 , a car going over a cliff and smashing, and a cockotoo squarking at the same time .It's been haunting me for years as I can't think of what it was about .
Can't say I remember that one, could have been a drink drive ad? I used to love the Marshall battery ad. The one where they brake down on the train tracks, and the train is coming, then the dude is like "MARSHALL", he rocks up in his van, fits the battery and they just get off the tracks in time.
0:30 - My grandparents bought one of these in beige to replace their 1968 Falcon (which they kept, anyway.) One day, they were rear ended at 60 km/h...both seat squabs _snapped off at the base,_ leaving them staring at the ceiling! The car was a write off...good thing they still had a car to drive at home.
Awesome Memories Just under $30k for that Holden Acclaim damn ! That’s a lot of money for that time. No wonder they struggled to sell when comparing to Toyota, Kia, Hyundai and Mitsubishi of its time They were better value and more affordable 😊
THATS THE THING, you didn't need to "work" on japanese imports with regular servicing they lasted forever compared to any piece of garbage found on rubbish dump or commonwhore
It's quite the comparison to think that the engineers and manufactures could create these engineering marvels, yet this... this is the best the marketing department could come up with. Bill Hicks was right.
sad to see Australia is going backward since 2008 , we really need good leaders , Tony and Malcolm were good , but they don't play political games , that is why they could not survive in Canberra .
OMG, the prices of those cars back in the 1980s and 1990s! $27K+orc for a bland 4cyl Camry. Fondly remember the Gallant VR4, from a time when Japan was young and innovative. Less so the VR Acclaim, a complete and utter piece of junk with little Japanese-level build quality.
