We had this 2016 Renault Kwid visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service along with a concern relating that the tailgate wouldn’t hold upside when opened and had to be held with support in order to access the boot space, making loading and unloading objects from the boot rather difficult. Seeking a permanent solution towards this concern, the car owner reached out to us for immediate assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, the rear tailgate strut had become very weak causing the tailgate to fall when opened completely. As repairing the strut mechanism wasn’t possible, replacement of the tailgate strut was the only viable option.
*Function of a tailgate strut:
- Tailgate struts are rod shaped having a function similar to that of a damper and serves the purpose of keeping the tailgate in an open position
*Symptoms of a faulty tailgate strut:
- Squeaky sound while opening / closing the boot
- Doesn’t hold the tailgate when opened
- Stiff to operate
*Solution:
- The faulty tailgate struts we’re dismantled and replaced with new tailgate struts
- Annual service was performed
