Waking up wet will make you wince. But for real, we were sick of waking up feeling like we were in the splash zone. Having just a little airflow through your car or SUV camper will make it way more comfortable. We’ve been pointing the fan in, which wasn’t the original plan but it feels amazing. One of these paired with a window covering that allows you to crack a window or two makes it way better. Dimensions will vary quite a bit based on your vehicle so I didn’t make a .pdf guide for this one.

I like the magnet idea so you can reverse it. Plus these pc style fans are designed for long run hrs. I'm setting up the 120m version in my rv/camper. Yes there are larger fans for the roof vents but I wanted something that will draw minimal power I can leave on.

@@MattTheDesigner Like it or not, it’s proven to be successful. Do I “like” being force fed videos I didn’t ask for? Nope, but who does? Who wants to be forcibly exposed to things against their will? I can’t think of anyone that wants to be controlled by advertising, but the facts are it can be and absolute was in this case. As for improvement on future vids- do more. IMO, increasing your video content will come with not just repetition (but that alone helps) but making sure you create content that you truly want to create content on because you want to offer up help to others. On the last part- be genuine, and don’t try to fake it.

Glue magnets inside of a sunroof wind deflector to make the sunroof more rain-proof. You can lay bug screen down and the magnetized sunroof deflector will hold down half while magnets can hold the rest.

I ordered the ABC and work on the cooling system just like Matt. To keep it simple, I only install the USB 5V fan (it comes with 4 long screws to hold two fan guards, I just use it to fasten fan to the ABS) and filter and let the cable drop to armrest and connect to power bank. I didn't use magnets nor net (hold power bank) for this project. It is not easy to get exact fit. Every sunroof is different. I try to get it to cover whole sunroof, but it is too difficult to get it fit and not easy to put it in and take it out. After many tries, I end up reduce the size to half of my sunroof sunroof sliding shade to get support. Sometime sunroof won't be able to close. DIYer need to try it out and the size is not always a straight line (for my case it is a curve). If you decide to go for 3/4 of full sunroof size. (which I don't think is needed, all you need is one or two inch bigger than the fan size.), you might need additional support because the ABS is too filmy. Yet it is still difficult to cut with knife. DIYer can add one more layer in few areas to get additional support. The sunroof now can be closed and opened and tilted and I can easily take it out and put it in even inside the car. It is easier for DIYer who doesn't have a lot of tools. My suggestion for people don't have a lot of tools, don't try to cover it all the way. As to the circle hole for the fan. If DIYer doesn't have the right tool, I suggest DIYer drill small holes along the circle, cut it open and sand paper it. That is much easier. I have an used 8CM "Thermaltake Mobile Fan II Adjustable Speed External USB Cooling Fan with One-touch Retractable USB power cable box for Notebook Laptop Desktop. A1888" I take the leg off and it is perfect for me. DIYer can try something else because it is not cheap and only 12CM is available. Or DIY a speed control. My project finished. The only thing I bought is ABS. Thanks to Matt. Now I need a tarp to cover the "tilted sunroof" in case of raining night.

So simple and creative! I'm at the start of converting an SUV into a weekend camper. Have you ever heard of anyone modifying their vehicle's HVAC blower to ventilate the cabin? I've successfully isolated the blower to run off an external power source other than the vehicle's battery. Before I invest in the electronics to run the blower on low speed off a go-kart battery, I'm curious if I'm overlooking anything. It seems to be a different approach to having the windows open. Interestingly, using the blower avoids issues with rain and pulls air through the filter which means no bugs or particulates such as dust when in Moab. Maybe the solution doesn't work for every vehicle, but my vehicle's blower pulls in air from the outside when the car is off.

Thank you! I am still debating whether to buy a "basic" trim used Sienna or Odyssey (w/out the standard sunroof) or the next trim(s) up (w/ std sunroof). The only thing I worry about is the mice eating the flimsier mesh. I think I would use a metal mesh instead, although I don't know if mice will still eat the plastic sheet to come in. Love it that the fan is reversible! Can help cool down the interior in warm weather by pulling air in or let the heat (and fart smells) escape first when it is too hot which the hotter air accumulates near the top by pushing the air out.
@MattTheDesigner
@MattTheDesigner Год назад
I’ve been shocked by some of the things I’ve seen mice chew through. They could in theory chew through the plastic if given enough time but we’re always moving from place to place so no mice so far.

Hey Lynda. The sunroof has a setting that lifts the back up a little rather than sliding the whole thing open. It’s made to keep light rain from getting in when it’s just cracked a little. So the sunroof does all the rain proofing not the thing I made. But if it’s a down pour you’ll probably get wet. Hope this helps.

Did you ever test this to see the actual effectiveness of the ventilation? When I built this, I used my air quality measurement device and I witnessed effectively no change. It was essentially useless. It performed worse than when I just jammed a portable travel fan into my sunroof and had it blow air in. It looks amazing, but based on my air quality measurement device, it didn't help with circulation and removal of CO2 from the air at all. throughout the night, CO2 climbed from 600 up to 1500-3000 PPM. And I'm not trying to be mean about it. Im just seriously asking because I was so excited to build it but then so disappointed to see it do nothing. I do have to say though I only tested it with the sunroof crack version and not fully open, but I wasn't planning on ever using it with the sunroof fully open because of the rain concern.
@MattTheDesigner
@MattTheDesigner 3 месяца назад
Hey Charlie, I made an updated version of this that is way more powerful. I think it's my second to last video I posted. If you don't want to make anything new I'd recommend getting a little rain/wind guard for your windows so you can crack them slightly so that the fresh air can get in as the fan expels the CO2.

@@MattTheDesigner Did you measure it to see if there was a measured difference? Also, thanks or doing these videos, they honestly are amazing, I really don't want to be rude or harsh in any way.

@@charliem2653 I've only measured it in comfort points which is a system I made up. It's +5 comfort points. Jokes aside, no I don't have a C02 meter but I like real feedback. If I get around to doing another round of updates I'll order one of those.

This is gold! I just started setting up my Rav4 to camp outside work to save on gas. Also, I don't know if you've heard of the backseat bivy? I'm trying to find a cheaper solution, but I have a feeling you might be able to help.

Dang. $125 for a fabric square?? Plywood isn’t exactly cheap these days but for that same cost you could build a leveling platform that would be more comfortable. Check out my other builds if you haven’t.
