This is an installation tutorial for replacing the mirror on a car. Glass Only! This tutorial specifically is for changing glass on a 1996 Buick Roadmaster, but the same principle can be applied to most vehicles.
Most vehicles you don't have to remove the plastic casing that attaches the mirror. I broke the glass out with flat screwdriver and with a plastic bag hung on the mirror to catch the pieces. Cleaned the casing with rubbing alcohol and put the adhesive strips on, then the glass. Good as new!

What about getting the backing plate from mirror so I can put the glass in it? I've got a backing plate missing in my 86 Pontiac firebird passenger side mirror.
Missing backing plate? You'll have to find a part for that car. As far as separating the backing plate from the Mirror, they are usually held on with adhesive. The mirror I was replacing in this video was already cracked so I was able to crack it some more and peel it off. I suggest going to glassrack.net. They will sell you the mirror with the backing plate.

I have never needed to do it, but you can either buy a new mirror housing or find one at a junk yard. Other than that, I do not know how to repair that.
