It's so nice to watch a channel where the hosts & producer don't feel the need to embellish. There's nobody trying to be an entertainer/"personality"; the shop isn't actually a stage. No screaming hiphop in the background needed, either. That sort of thing. A channel for car guys who also happen to be adults, in other words. Thank you for presenting this channel in such a manner.

That AGA table is amazing, I have been to AGA facility few times to purchase tools in person since they are only an hour away from me, I use their valve stem seal tool to do the N62 seals, incredible quality.

The AGA table is amazing. I bought one instead of another Snap On toolbox. I've since bought a US General toolbox in place of the Snappy. I wouldn't change my decision after using it. For an enthusiast it's a super expensive tool but well worth it like finally getting a lift or two in your garage, it's that life changing. I've actually paid for the table now by doing an engine out belt service on a Ferrari for a friend and several BMW / Mercedes engine / transmission jobs. There's other cheaper and more expensive tables out there but the AGA is good for anything but heavy duty trucks. Very well engineered like every other AGA product.

I saw this table in a previous video, and I already realized this baby is gonna save lots of time. It may look a bit overdimensioned, but once it it set up the engine is secured safely. Very gratifying to mount that new shiny machine, no cutting corners here. A happy wife is a happy life!

The purchase of this car was invaluable. He can make a profit selling it. At the same time, he gets to let his guys get in more practice time on doing a engine swap. What's cooler is they get to do a dope engine swap from an engine from BMW so it is nice and shiny. What better way to practice and make a profit at the same time? It is a win-win.
@Christoph-sd3zi

It's a win-win-win for Ninja because it's a BMW so it will be back to his shop numerous times for costly repairs.

It'd be better to practice and make profit by using a used good condition engine (low milage if possible). Both would have similar result and be back in the shop in similar time and similar fashion.

The last thing I am is proficient in this sort of world, but find it fascinating! A few questions that might seem ignorant: 1. What happens to the old engine, the one that is locked up? 2. It looks like you are very careful about safety. I think that would make a great video on its own. As experienced mechanic-type guys, what are some of the consequences you've seen when safety was ignored? 3. Are there questions from non-mechanic guys like me that you find completely obvious (and perhaps other adjectives) but not everyone knows?
@RogerM88

Being a DIYer myself, spent the video figuring out how to build one table like that from scratch using metal sheets and two car jacks joined together to lift the scissor structure up. Wouldn't look as clean and tight design as that one, but could work for a fraction of what that table costs.
@ArKritz84
@ArKritz84 2 года назад
Less efficient, but if you don't swap engines for a living you can hardly justify the cost of that table.

The N63 is definitely on the list, of most hated engines ever lol. I think they get a bad wrap overall though. You can get one from BMW for $3k now, that should tell you the history of it lol Don't get me wrong, the criticism it receives is well deserved. But if you have driven one of these, they're so damn fast & brilliant If you have a reputable money saving BMW Indy, and a BMW Master Tech around just incase. I'd say buy one They go for super cheap now, I recently bought a 2009 750Li for $8k with 60k miles...sticker price was $100,000! These cars are the same from 09-15, so everyone thinks it's like a 2017 lol However I'd recommend staying away, if you don't have what I mentioned above. And can't do a few things yourself. These Cars require preventive maintenance/on time maintenance. Someone like the Car Ninja could do it, in his sleep See how he didn't mention he hates the engine, like others he's talked about? Lol. Once you replace/solve the common problems... It is a brilliant engine if you really look at it.

(Tell your accountant that) There is a competing table which is a bit different. But this one seems better to me. Good investment.

Cars are not built like your father's Oldsmobile anymore. With the majority of engines now requiring subframe removals from the bottom of the vehicle, it's only logical to require a lift table. I can't imagine how difficult was must have been doing an engine swap on these very complex cars beforehand! Money well spent! I would think a new motor from BMW would cost over $16k+. How would 2011 550i be worth it after paying the last owner and then buying a brand new engine?
@MrFlyNikolai
@MrFlyNikolai 2 года назад
Believe it or not, these engines go for $3k at BMW. I bought a 2009 750Li March 2021, for $8k with 60k miles Seller said it just needed a Vanos solenoid. So I figured it was worth the risk at that price/mileage Long story short the new solenoids, made the engine run much better. But still had 1 timing code Dealership told me the chains were stretched and blah blah. Told me get rid of the car quoted me $20k for repair Scanned it with ISTA chains came back fine. Said check Camshaft exhaust gear & bolt Bought one for $200 on eBay with new bolt. Found a BMW Master Tech like the Car Ninja! Lol He charged me $750 to change the gear out. He's a Legend like the Ninja lol, did the job in literally 5 hours! It's a 10 hour shop job Car runs brand new now. Before that though, I was debating buying a new engine...since they're literally like $3k from BMW. Actually everyone was telling me to, go that route in the beginning...since they're so cheap Well worth the investment, pretty much get a brand new car.
@MrFlyNikolai
@MrFlyNikolai 2 года назад
Just to put it in even more perspective, if you go to any mechanic right now... And tell them you have valve stem seals problem, or any timing chain issues. They will literally tell you just buy a new N63 lol
@andrewthomason3857
@andrewthomason3857 2 года назад
@@MrFlyNikolai Are the flaws corrected in the replacement engines? Or are you paying $3K to, in effect, re-set the timer until the car dies again?
@MrFlyNikolai
@MrFlyNikolai 2 года назад
@@andrewthomason3857 You're paying $3k for the short block, which is what the Car Ninja seems to have ordered also. Comes with no parts You then transfer what parts are in good condition, from the old engine. And replace whatever bad parts with brand new ones Since the engine is already out the car. So this gives you the opportunity to replace any critical components, like the new improved valve seals for example... So you essentially have a brand new engine, with all revised/updated parts.
@MrFlyNikolai
@MrFlyNikolai 2 года назад
@@andrewthomason3857 My quote/calculations if I would've went that route. $3k for the short block, $2k for installation... Give or take a budget of $1k-$2k for any parts, you want to change out. That's a brand new engine for less than $7k The Valve stem seals or timing chain job on this engine cost about $3k by itself lol. And that's at a discount, from an indy mechanic
