Multi-link suspension explained | How multi-link suspension works | Car suspension animation
The contents include
1) Multi-link suspension design and layout, including five-link, four-link and three-link suspension;
2) Multi-link suspension functions in the three orthogonal planes, the top, front and side view.
Top view:
The arm needs to control toe / steer and lateral compliance.
Rear view:
The arm needs to control the camber, to control how the camber changes as the wheel rebounds or drops up and down.
Side view:
The arm must transmit traction and braking loads, as well as to control caster.
3) Solid axle multi-link suspension
A variation of the same concept is the solid axle multi-link system. The solid axle multi-link system offers similar benefits but has several advantages over independent multi-links suspensions. The solid axle multi-link suspension uses the lower and uppers arm to control back and forth movement and rotation. This rotation occurs during acceleration and braking.
4) Multi-link vs Double wishbone suspension
The multi-link suspension is orthogonal that It is possible to change one parameter at a time within the suspension without affecting the entire assembly. This is a significant difference from double wishbones. For a double wishbone suspension, moving a hardpoint or changing a bushing compliance affects more than one parameter. Multilink systems are expensive and complex to design and manufacture. In addition, it is difficult to tune the multi-link geometry without a complete 3D computer-aided design analysis.

Thanks for your support. That's true, multi-link suspension is particularly susceptible to damage from improper use and does have a high failure rate😄

I definitely prefer independent multi-link over any non-independent suspensions.

Information is good but the music is far too loud and could be argued, unnecessary.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry for the inconvenience, We have lower the volume of background music in our later videos. 😀

What is the difference between a torsion beam and a solid axle multi-link?

Q: can you steer a car with front ML suspension?
@animatedengineering8571

Hi, multi-link can be used on both the front and the rear suspensions. When used in a front suspension, it will replace the lateral arm with a tie-rod that connects the rack or steering box to the wheel hub. There isn't a single multi-link setup in industry, every car make or model may have their own design😃

I have multi link on my mx5 nd and I'm not a fan of it. I find that the car feels very loose and not planted to the tarmac, especially under hard acceleration. I'd much prefer a beefier setup.😊

Have you tried coilovers?

@DripGxd_Cam I have bilsteins with eibach springs, they've helped a bit, but I know a sway bar would make the most notable difference. Coilovers are more about ride height first, then dialling in the damper settings. They're very expensive for my car, but I think the sway bar would be the better option first 👍
