@Ialocin85 Because the 123d is at least equaly fast as a 125i. It takes around 5,5s/6,6s (4th/5th gear) from 80-120km/h in an 123d whereas it takes 5,7s/7s (4th/5th gear) in an 130i. 0-100km/h is quite irrelevant. With a modified engine management, the 123d has around 240hp - just to mention it again: 2l straight 4 cylinder diesel! Pedal to the metal in a 123d means around 9l/100km, whereas a 125i needs around 11-12l and a 130i around 12-13l. There's just a lack of sound.
If he says this is a car from Europe than he got the horsepower wrong, it has 204bhp not 143bhp. You can find 143bhp in the 118d. Check your stats before you tape it mate.

123d has the n47 1,995 litre engine with dual turbos, 204 HP and 400 Nm. And I can asure you it will keep the wheels spinning if you want to.. fuel consumption is 0.6L/10km
Jimmy Hawke you are absolutely right but the fuel consumption. I own a 123d and the minimum I can possibly get is 0.65 ... but the average is awesome as I am not a driver who likes being economical and still I don’t get over 0.8 per 10km
I have read that the rpm float is part of emissions programming, great review of a car that is a bit different from most one might see in youtube auto reviews. Also, I believe the mileage discrepancy is because of the difference between US and imperial gallons, unless you were converting from l/km, in which case you are quite right. I'm curious though as to whether the cylinders are iron sleeved, as I thought aluminum couldn't take diesel stresses.
Way off the mark, incorrect figures throughout, disregard the technical bits. Not sure engines in the USA are renowned for refinement, think that one goes to the Japanese or German engines.
A 2L diesel engine that makes 200 HP and 300 ft/lb of torque. Thoroughly impressive. I wonder how this engine would fair in a small, proper sports cars, something along the lines of a Lotus Elise. Speed and fuel economy at the same time. That's a future to invest in.
@EBTerriers err, none are. I never said there are any. What I said was, a common (European version) Golf diesel will outperform most US made cars, and be insanely economical at the same time.
Firstly this is a review from a American. The only country that has never made a good 'all round' car. Americans don't have a go until you can actually substantiate my point will a rational argument. Much love!
@RX72626 the meaning of my sentence (sorry if it was not clear, but english is not my mother language was that the U.S. automotive/motorbike engineering was (and IS) miles away (or if you prefer, years later) than european/japanese one. we can make 2 liter engines that can compete with U.S. big blocks, go faster, and perform better fuel consuptions. maybe the fact that we pay gasoline 3 times more than the americans pushed our engineers to develope better engines...
Problem in the US is that they use a really poor quality diesel, which modern European diesels can't use. That's why diesels just won't take off, there is just no incentive. As said, this 123d is a very fast car in Europe, has a top speed of 150MPH and gets there quickly - in other words, it will outperform almost all US made cars, at incredible fuel efficiency. Even a very common VW Golf Diesel is faster and much more economical in diesel.
this video is very misleading. 143hp? bad gearbox? bad clutch? and what's wrong with the m-pack? ...oooh that it doesn't have a 6.2 v8 like a corvette? ...oooh i'm sorry. delete this video, because you will only get real drivers to laugh at you. (and mislead others) i wish you all the best!
i actually went to buy one of these a few weeks back, and when i turned the engine on, the shifter was rattling like a motherfucker lol.. and i decided not to buy it because of that and i realised that its a common thing by looking at the video at the begging!
9 s 0-96kmh or 0-60? lol what a good review?not very interesting the 204hp? nice how many american cars have 102 hp per liter? corvette? and its gas lol.how ridiculous is this review...american are used to smooth engines ya... 5,9 v8 with 200hp lol is enough petrol to make diesel for 10 cars like these...
Save yourself further embarrassment fella, delete this video because he's talking about the model 2 categories below the 123d! The 123d is still a 2.0 litre but has twin turbo, hence over 200 bhp. Take your bad car knowledge and fashion sense out of public view, stick to reviews about cars with engines which haven't changed since your mustache was fashionable.
