NYC CHI I can give you a brief rundown of my experience if it helps. For me I had a high enough credit score to 1. Not need a co-signer, 2. I didn’t have to put down any $$$ up front. I paid my first month of insurance before leaving the dealership just to start my policy. I have my own solo policy and my car is 100% in my name. I went in and told the salesperson what I wanted to pay monthly and we negotiated. They tried to bring out paperwork that was higher than what I wanted to pay. It’s all a negotiation game which is why people normally suggest you take a parent, or another older adult when purchasing your car. I bought a brand new 2019 Toyota Camry SE fully loaded last year. I emailed the financing officer my job offer letter that showed my salary but normally they’ll request paystubs. They had me do some online paperwork for them to pull my credit. That’s honestly about it. I knew what color, make, and model I wanted. I only test drove Camry’s. Some dealerships will try to show you EVERYTHING on the lot if you let them especially when you’re young. Just don’t be flexible on the monthly payment stay firm in your decision.

Markayla Banks you should start building it now. Some can build credit with bills and things like that but I’d suggest a secured credit card. My first card that I got to start building my credit was the capital one secure mastercard. It allows you to put a deposit down and then will start you off with a limit of 300-500 dollars. Over time with you paying your bill IN FULL on time your limit will increase and your credit score will increase as well. Just be sure you’re responsible if you go down that route because it’s very easy to get carried away with credit cards. Only spend what you know for sure you can replace. Use it for small things like food or things of that nature. I hope this helps
Markayla Banks I built my credit like Markeyyuhh stated but with a UNSECURE credit card. I started building my credit in 2017, purchased my car in 2019 so I had 2 full years of good credit history. I went to my bank who I’ve been with since 14 (22 now) and went to discuss my options. I had only had my phone bill in my name (since 16) and was unsure if that would be enough to get an UNSECURE credit card. So I was prepared to have to put $$$ down to get a SECURE credit card. I was approved for the UNSECURE so my credit limit originally was $1K I would make sure to stay UNDER 30% utilization especially being younger I was working mainly during the Summer and school during the rest of the year. Only adding small balances I could pay off. My rule was “If it isn’t in my account RIGHT NOW or I won’t have incoming income in my account to make up for this expense payment in the next few days I’m using my DEBIT card or CASH”

Congrats on the new car sis. That black on white combo is giving me life. My first was a Sentra also. They have came a long way since I first had mine. The Sentra looks just as good as the Altima and Maxima. I agree that the Sentra is a good car...first time buyer or not. Nissans will last a life time. I now have the 2019 Maxima and I’m in love with it. Enjoy your new car boo...and the wheel cover is too cute. Just make sure it doesn’t interfere with your airbag sensors.
