Caran D'Ache Neocolor I & II Swatch & Comparison, plus Timelapse Roman Szmal & Neocolor I Painting

Today I swatch out the 32 Caran D'Ache Neocolor I crayons I got in my recent art haul, and test out their properties alongside my Neocolor II's.
I videoed a quick little sketch at the end, using the Neocolor I's as a wax resist for Roman Szmal paints.
I'm delighted to have the different properties of both sets, and think they are high quality, beautiful products, especially useful in mixed media art.
I just wish there were more colours available in the Neocolor I's!

Ahh! I’m not living in the UK anymore (rather currently). Do many friends using Seawhites books! Thank you for sharing. It seems a good size. Now the issue is…. Neocolors I or Ii 😂

Yes, sorry, I'm not sure if these are available anywhere else. I'd go for Neocolor II's, plus a white Neocolor I for resist work, if I was starting from scratch!

Hi Helen! Just wondering if you’re using the neocolor 1? I am considering getting some of the summer since the 2 get so sticky in my hand in the heat…

I do have them, and they're beautifully smooth, but I don't use them very much, just because I really like the water solubility of the 2's. I guess it depends what you want to be able to achieve with them.
