As in every video of mine there is a mistake in this one, too. At this point it has become a standard! One small clip doesn‘t match up with what I say. Can you spot it? 😉
Pointing to burnt ochre, calling it burnt sienna. I was like, huh?! Then saw your comment 😄 If thats how big your mistakes are, you are a lucky person 😉. Wishing you the best, may God bless you! 🌷
I think it´s the moment you wanted to compare the lilac and wisteria Holbein pencils with the Caran D´ache ones. But the video showed the black swatches. 🙃
I have every professional artist grade brand of colored pencils, ALL full color range sets. Except for Derwent studio and Derwent Artist colored pencils.... I absolutely hate them 🤣 Holbein has been my number 1 for years! I always have atleast 2 new 150 sets of Holbein colored pencils. I get my 150 sets straight from Japan, because they are literally half the cost than anywhere else ( SPECIALLY IN THE USA ) they are around 500$ with tax for the Holbein 150 set. From Japan, I find them for 220$ to 280$ a 150 set. Derwent lightfast are my number 2, Luminance almost a close tie. Derwent Drawing pencils are only available in 24 colors... BUT THEY ARE AMAZING, earth toned 24 set, with 5mm cores of creaminess! I love using my Caran D'ache Pablo's over my polychromos for the small and sharp details, both hold a point very well. I also use my Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle's and my Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils dry with all of my colored pencils together.... and wet of course lol. The Derwent procolours are nice, but only 37 of the 73 are lighfast. Same for the Derwent Coloursoft, tho I never reach for them much anyway.. very crumbley, and their cores tend to be off center... so they break alot when trying to sharpen them. Iam happy that your channel popped up on my auto-play on my studio monitors 🙂 I've been working and procrastinating since I've found your channel lol. So iam a new sub... thanks for sharing your video, and giving me a reason to procrastinate hahahaha 😆 😂 cheers 🍻
Okay, I trust your judgement and will avoid buying Derwent studio and Derwent Artist colored pencils. I too got my Holbein Coloured Pencils Pastel Colour Set straight from Japan, you save so much money and shipping was even faster than ordering from Jackson's - lol! Thank you so much for your words of kindness, I will gladly keep you company and help with procrastinating 😂 I know that feeling so well! Greetings from Germany ❤️
ah so calming! seriously tho i started using the neocolor ii and you really cannot put into words how buttery those pastels feel! using them is so satisfying!!!
Awww, how happy I am that you found it calming, because that was my goal, for it to be relaxing :) And yes, I agree, never been a huge fan of crayons or oil pastels, but Neocolor II made me fall in love!
I have both blacks and I can say I much prefer the luminance black because it's more black. (less shiny) Personally Luminance are the only pencils I now use in my artworks. All the rest is used for taking notes or quick doodles. I had a neocolor 1 set for years (decades actually - got it as a teenager) and they were super gorgeous but never used them. I don't know what to do with them, I think they're good for artists who do bold strokes. They are satisfying to use in any case.
Now that I got the luminance I don’t think I will buy any other coloured pencils in the future, I am so happy I got them! Heard many good things about the Derwent lightfast as well, but I think I will stick to Luminance and get more colours! I agree with the bold strokes and Neocolor 2, I love them but so far I have not used them in my sketchbooks but I am planning to do so soon
You have good taste in colors. I own a set of Neocolor II because they can be used wet for underpainting, then dry on top. Neocolor II is opaque like gouache. I call them gouache crayons. I would like a set of Neocolor I, but holy crap, I’ve spent so much on art supplies last year.
Thank you for this hint, I thought I would not like Neocolor II but now so many people keep recommending them to me. You are the first who told me they are opaque and like Gouache, now I am actually hooked!
@@MoniDmajor Yea, they may not have the full covering power of gouache, but they are certainly not ‘watercolor” crayons since they aren’t transparent. I’d suggest trying a few before committing to a set.
@@MoniDmajor I saw this video and I thought about you. Here is a demonstration of how I like to use Neocolor II. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mZhN77xh6Gw.html
OMG your reaction to the Neocolor texture I felt to my soul, that's exactly how I felt lolllll! I loved the comparison element (esp with the Caran D'Ache Luminance vs. Polychromos and Prismacolor). It gave me the same vibes as your acrylic gouache comparison video series but just without the test art piece! :)!!!
@@MoniDmajor I heard zero corrupted audio and just enjoyed myself the whole time, this video was perfect on the overcast day being kept company by my Polish buddy in Germany while I painted along! I feel like if we hung out this is literally what we'd do--just play with art supplies and chat!
@@CreatingCuteArt Awwww!!! I am always imagining that when I am in my studio honestly! Making art together or side by side just trying things and being like „ermagerd how pret-tyyyy!!!“, wouldn’t that be cool?? That‘s why I love how many videos you have I just click on „play all“ and you keep me company
Wonderful video Monika! Sorry I missed it yesterday. I’m still trying so hard to watch all the previous videos, but you guys keep bringing out more and more - phew! Will I ever catch up? YES, eventually… Sending much love and light from a rather weird art voyeur who is afraid of her many own art supplies!! 🎨🖌👩🎨😻😻
AAAArgh, dammit! I sent you such a long response but it did not send I see! In short: No proble, take your time, there is more to life than RU-vid and I know that feeling when you come back days later and videos have piled up ;) Sending you loooooots of warm hugs, Anita! Oh, and one more thing: Art supplies are precious and I know that feeling when you are scared to use them. I have that with paper the most, I made more art when all I had was just copy paper and a biro! Maggies channel helps me so much with overcoming my fears
@@MoniDmajor I know in my heart you are right, it’s a matter of persuading my head! Yes, Maggie is truly inspirational and fun too! Depression is horrible though… xxx
Thank you for this awesome swatching session! I would say that based on the other color pencil artists I've seen here on yt, oil pencils such as polychromos are more beautiful when you layer them and not just one hard swipe with the pencil. I recommend the Art Gear Guide. Harry's a great guy and also a great artist!
Wow, thank you so much for the recommendation, Bev! I will definitely check them out, it's great to learn more and see different opinions! I'm no know-it-all and love to eductae myself so this is much appreciated ❤️ Have a great day
@@MoniDmajor you're welcome! Also, I'm really sorry if it came out as me trying to be a know it all, that's just what I learned from watching pencil artists and also if you don't mean that, I'm sorry again! I overthink everything too much!😆
@@savantbleu0250 Hey no! It did absolutely not come across like that, I appreciate all tips and perspectives SO much, especially in the comment section, it makes me wanna go and research further, I love learning new things! You are of big help and gave me very useful advice! Don’t you worry, Bev! The know it all was referring to myself since I gave a review, but every review comes from a personal perspective and in my case I am no pencil expert whatsoever and use them usually for final touches and clean ups or textures, but I have been thinking about making a drawing with just coloured pencils so your comment really helps to go and discover how others who are more experienced than me approach it! Again, thank you so much! 🙏 😊
The Neocolor I are great, and if you want detail, the Posca Pencils are very similar and go great together. I bought the 10 set at first to try them out, and immediately loved them, so I bought the whole 40 set. I like to colour with them. Only downside like you mentioned is they aren't great for details, so I mostly use them for bigger works or without details. I wonder how the Neopastel compare to these.
Thank you so much for this hint, I did not even know Posca is selling pencils now! Just checked them out and they do have a lot of colours that appeal to me! Do you know by chance if they also sell the pencils individually? Hopefully they will release new colours
Holbein Pencils are indeed also very high quality as well, I prefer them over Polychromos indeed! If they only were a little more affordable and easier to get. I like to use them if I want to go for a less powdery or textured look.
@@MoniDmajor yeah I understand that completely. Do you buy off Jackson’s art supplies? I just buy a couple at a time or whenever there’s a sale. I think I’m just one of those people addicted to Holbein lols! Hope you’re having an amazing day xxx
@@emmasheppard2639 I stopped buying at Jackson’s because last three times I was going to order (after having spent a long time researching browsing and making decisions) Jackson’s told me “Lol, you can’t make this order because it contains toxic materials” without specifying which one. I got tired after hours of try & error the entire cart for the culprits and asking customer service without getting responses. Years ago it was my go to store but now with the strict overseas shipping regulations between countries and more alternatives online shop wise… but I am not gonna lie, I am sad every time there is a special sale and I can’t join 😜 Maybe it’s better this way, my wallet appreciates it 😆
Damn, that sucks! And if you ship them from overseas, is that possible? There is not many physical stores here who sell the entire catalogue, often times it's just 12 standard colors and then sets. I got mine online (which was a risk since I had to pick the colors by digital color swatches instead of real swatches)
