Hi Folks. Join me today on my Caravan Sunday Tinkering. Today we free a seized Alko Wheel Lock, repair a stuck Cabinet catch and replace a washer on the vanity cabinet catch. As a bonus I show how grotty the caravan has got over winter without the cover on. Thanks for watching Phil

I read/heard about the alko wheel locks seizing up when corroded so just before Christmas I gave all the components of mine a good spray of white lithium grease - hopefully now protected. The spray nozzle gets into the lock and even the receiver thing that is fixed to the chassis. I did the same with my hitch lock. My caravan cover, when it flaps, ironically keeps knocking the rubber cap off the alko wheel lock!

Hi Richard. Lithium Grease is good stuff. The Alko locks do need regular servicing for the reason you mentioned. My cap was removed as the cover was not on. Cover will be on at the end of the season. Thanks for commenting. Phil🙂👍

Ps Phil on the subject of things going missing like your Alko rubber. Someone at our storage yard has swapped our relatively new A frame cover for their exact same one but with 2 holes in it! Don't think was a magpie! 😂Bar stewards! Will be marking the replacement and my Alko cap too! Cheers Phil.

Hi Craig. You know you can't have anything these days. I have put my name on the new cap. Sadly marking things is the only thing we can do. Yes Bar stewards indeed. Thanks Phil🙂👍

Hi Phil I find our cupboard catches stick in winter and a spray of silicone spray does the trick and no oudorless unlike WD40. We new to caravanning and not keen on the ideas of covers. We've decided not to bother with one, even a cap type as we dont think they are practical for us coming and going off storage a lot, especially in the darker months when time is limited. Also been informed by the cover manufacturers van has to be clean before putting them on.When we look around our storage yard there's very few covers so a couple of roof washes a year and a good scrub now and then will do for us. Thanks for the very informative vidoes cheers Phil. 😊

Hi Craig. Yes you are right silicone spray does work. At the time I only had wd40 on me. They have been sprayed with silicone now. Yes the caravan should be cleaned first. I always do this when using mine. Having had one for a few years now I stand by them to keep it clean in winter. It will be back on at the end of this season. Thanks Phil🙂👍

I cleaned mine on Monday Phil and after spending all day cleaning it I think I’ll be getting a cover for mine end of season. Why do people rob them key lock covers it drives me mad. I ordered two so got one spare just incase. Great video mate 👍

Hi Carl. My cover will be back on at the end of the season. If you are not buying a cover from the 2 Main Manufacturers (i.e. the cheaper ones) you will need to add extra straps as they are not that good. The Caps get nicked because they are £5 each and folk will not pay it if they loose theirs. Oh well I have put my name on my new one. Thanks Phil🙂👍

Hi Carl. My Cover has a clear window for my roof solar panel and it still works really well. Never had an issue. I can recommend both Specialised Cover & Pro-Tec. I would not recommend the cheaper ones as they are quite thin and tend to rip in strong winds. I suppose you get what you pay for. Hope this helps. Phil🙂👍

Hi Phil Both my rubber wheel lock covers were stolen some time ago but I caught the culprit. Wish i'd kept the CCTV recording to share with you but it was a magpie. Flew in took one then came back a bit later for the other. Little Bar Stewards 🙂

Hi Phil. Great video. We are looking at getting a new winter cover. We had the problem with the catch sticking and found the it only happens in the winter mainly. So we used silicone spray and it works perfectly now. Good fix on the mirror door catch. Someone nicking the rubber cover. Have they no shame. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Paul and Sarah

Hi Paul, thanks. Any cover will do just make sure it is strapped down more than the straps supplied on a budget one. I had a walk round the storage yard and one van that has never had a cap seems to have one now? I have marked my new one. Thanks phil👍🙂
