Caravans with huge problems, front and back panel cracks are a big issue with a lot of caravans, so we look at a possible fix for some caravans with a crack on the back panel.
We find used caravans with this sort of problem, which a replacement back panel can be a uneconomical way to repair them.
We don't usually do repairs so this will give you an idea of what can be done if you fins damage to your caravan panels.
Looking for a used touring caravan for sale then try our website, we sell all makes and models of used caravans from 2 berth Caravans upto 6 berth caravans, so check out our website for used caravans for sale in the UK.

Considering that is specially designed for that task , I would say it’s a really rough and poor solution , it just looks terrible, you wouldn’t accept that on you car or house as a tailor made fix, Mark I think you did a good job with what you were given, Caravans really are 2nd class Citizens when it comes to build quality and for what they cost this shouldn’t be the case😡
@thecaravanplace

Yes this was the manufacturer warranty procedure a few years ago too. But it was a better fix than a new back panel, as the new back panels were splitting after a year or 2 causing more problems 🙈

I wathced this when first released, We just got ours back yesterday from some warranty work none related to rear, I was flabergasted when looked out the bedroom window to notice these fitted, we didnt asked for them they not notified us was doing them, I instantly emailed for a reasoning showing evidence when we bought it photos on there property before taking the van to now so could not say was always there, and this is what i got back - With regards to the rear panel, the majority of manufacturers have introduced reinforcing caps which are designed to strengthen the top radius corner of a caravan we have done this work foc. 🤔

Definitely worth having them, as it means no costly repairs for you in the future 👍

Elddis and Swift had massive problems with rear panels splitting. We had new back on our Avante then ot cracked again. The manufacturers got fed up paying for expensive warranty claims and decided to put caps on to cover the mess up😢
@thecaravanplace
@thecaravanplace Год назад
Yes a lot started fitting new panels, then had the same issue 12 months later. So I think the caps were the best fix in the end.

Baileys did the same. My twin axle senator went back to the factory many times. For new front and rear panels along with many other customers vans. The panels cracked and let water in. Bailey knew they had a problem but just fobbed customers off about it. I asked customer services how many times my caravan had been back to the factory and their reply was they have no record of it being returned. When I said they were lying to me they put the phone down.

Just found this and it confirms my feelings on the caravan industry and the dealers attitudes to warranty or repair work. As a car manufactures agent for 40 years all I can say is that the caravan industry is 50 years out of date. The bodge attitude that the dealers believe as being acceptable just wouldn’t be allowed in the motor trade anymore. In this case if the front has cracked and it is still in warranty then it must have a new front panel fitted nothing else is acceptable.❤

Great video. Can I ask - do you drill entirely through the panel or only partially? It looks like you didnt go all the way through.

Hi Ian, just sikaflex 221, so filled the crack first for more protection, then fit the covers again using sikaflex.

Just don't like that idea panel looks an add on, top just doesn't run inline With end profile of roof. Understandable you repair as instructed, I would have gone for plastic weld repair, keeping it original. Wonder if this would affect the resale value 😮
@thecaravanplace

Because it was originally a manufacturing warranty procedure, it's a pretty common repair now so doesn't affect the values.

The Covers are another Caravan industry bodge to get over poor quality components, Swift should have owned up to the problem and had a recall and replaced the back panel. The caravan industry is a disgrace when it comes to product quality.
@thecaravanplace
@thecaravanplace Год назад
To be fair, swift did start by replacing the panels, but the same issue was happening 12 months later, so the only fix was this, I think it protects it long term too, rather than having an issue once the warranty has finished. 👍
