Part 7. Yaw motor mount that is also adjustable and provides the housing for the battery. This took quite some time as it was difficult conceptualising how it would all fit together. Not too long to go now, just the motherboard mount and the handle bars. Thanks!

I'm watching your project videos for quite a while now. Apart from the fact that you're obviously pretty damn skillet at building anything, i'm always surprised at the amount of work you take upon you to make things right! That's a skill i really admire. Keep up the amazing work! greetings from switzerland

There is so much dust in these videos i feel dirty after watching :D Fascinating work! It would be nice to have a voice over on the videos to explain more in detail the design intent, like Clickspring or Frank Howarth. Off course, no one will try to reproduce this project so a documentary style should be appropriate.
@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
+Macovei Vlad I might re-load this vid with a voice-over option. Some like it and some hate it. I realise this build is hard to follow and indeed an explanation would be helpful. Some find the sounds and video is enough without distraction, and some would like more. I'm not a great talker lol but would certainly add a VO if enough would like it. I appreciate you letting me know and thanks for the kind words!

I started shaping the neck of the bass with a pretty rough wood file and oh boy, do my arms hurt. Do you have a technique or tools that make that easier? Im only making the rough shape so far since the body is not attached yet.
@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
Yeah unfortunately the rasp takes a bit of effort. Iv looked at all the options, angle grinder, power sander etc, but they ate all too brutal. The rasp, although hard work, gives you control over the process and it does take time. I follow up the rasp with a scraper and then sanding blocks. Slowly you'll get your desired shape. Good on you dude!! Glad it's taking shape, awesome!!!

@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
+Fletcher Handcrafted Guitars Hi Fletch! Its a bit of a nemesis build really, the complexity of the mighty gimbal dawned on me at about video 4 stage and hence I just avoid commentary as I would not know how to explain it all. I figure at this stage its better to let the pictures tell the story. This section really did my brain in for a long time trying to work it all out and have it structurally sound at the same time. This build is straight from my head hence no plans written down which probably doesn't help. I havent fired her up yet but the next video will be the final one so the good people of YT can actually see it complete as apposed to a bunch of shapes being moulded and sanded in weird ways ha ha. I hope you are doing all good! Hows the website going? Looks great!

Cool video, but I think you love those short depth of field shots a bit much. It gets very noticeable when the focus is even slightly off and also it gets hard on the eyes after a while. Don't get me wrong some of them are gorgeous but with many I just feel like I can't see what is going on properly. Really cool project though :)
@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
+5chr4pn3ll No worries dude, yeah it gets a bit difficult trying to light it up as I have to work at night. I'm using a very fast lens with a couple of macro tubes and have to shoot wide open hence the ultra narrow DOF. I have to bin some of my footage as I miss the focus in some shots even. Id love a Sony A7S2, that would solve alot of probs for me. I hope to get some work done in the weekend so I can use the glorious sun some more. Valid points you raise and I appreciate the kind words!!

Also, I have a cheap and cheerful way of vacuum bagging small parts; Use a kitchen freezer sealer. It works a treat. I have also further pressurized some parts by dropping the sealed bag containing the part into water (attached by rope, obiously) for a couple of hours until the resin has cured. 10 metres is equivilent to 28 PSI over the part. Its slightly fiddly but you can seriously pressurize the parts very cheaply.
@elams1894
@elams1894 6 лет назад
That's some pretty good thinking outside the box TW. I would never have thought about pressurizing in deep water, very cool. TBH, the amount of time it took me to build the gimbal was blown out for sure but it enabled me to really hone some ideas. I'm making a new bracket and reconfiguring the balance system to eliminate most of the bolts. It's a cool journey and definitely carbon fibre, with some imagination, enables you to build just about anything, thanks for the comments!

@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
I have nearly finished this build and yes, there is a mother board, and other bits and pieces that make this work. I have also incorporated a bluetooth module and have remote control of the gimbal through joystick. The next video will show this build completed and working with footage (barring any disasters) and then there will be couple of videos after that, completing the build series. Its perhaps 2-3weeks away. Thanks

@elams1894
@elams1894 8 лет назад
+MediaGraphica You mean the slip rings in the middle of the motors? If so, I used that space to house a shaft as I wanted to support the motor weight on additional bearings rather than rely solely on the motor bearings. Hence alas, I coudnt utilise the space for wires. Cheers!!

It is quite complex so I may do a separate vid just for the electronics part with comprehensive explanation of whats going on as I have found that trying to find info on gimbal electronic processes is next to impossible. Its taken me a long time to research the whole thing and I think an easy explanation is what is needed for anyone going through the same process. Thanks Alek!!!
