I loveeeeed my 12K Carbon Winch (Version 1) that I had on my Disco 4 for MANY years...... now I'm looking at buying my next one (Version 2) for our new Fortuner.
Just got mine. 12k A big thanks to Dan for the great job communication with me about the ships being delayed in California and how fast he got my winch to me once it got to port. 💪
Cheers Tom, appreciate the message. We do our best to keep customers informed in the current challenging business environment. Enjoy the winch and happy wheeling. Dan
I just bought and installed this winch. So far it's great. I love the idea of the breather but I just can't get my head around how this new model is better without a breather extension tube. I get that the gortex membrane doesn't let moisture through, but if it's hot and goes under water, it also can't let air in. Therefore, the same pressures must occur inside the housing that try to suck water in through the seals as would happen if there was no breather. Can someone unconfuse me?
Hey Albo, The environmental conditions that would result in such a pressure differentiation would be extremely rare. The motor housing is almost 10mm thick steel, so it would take quite a while for heat to be removed and create a larger enough negative pressure scenario in the housing. I do get your point, and we considered this, however with over 15 years of winch use we could not attribute one case to this particular situation. If the winch is working under water it would also keep generating heat and reduce the effect in question. Our decisions to change up and improve features always take on a large number of factors. You would be surprised how many users never actually installed the breather tube on the previous version, or failed to mount the breather fitting in a place not subjected to water. So a feature that requires no user input was high on our list. Hope this helps!
Some parts are interchangable, the drum end plates are completely new so the new seals don't work in the old housing. You can contact us directly at www.carbonoffroad.com.au for further info
The 9500lb will get an upgrade. We are planning something that will be release most likely early next year. We will continue to supply the existing stock of V1 9500s until we run out, then change over. The current 9500lb winch is an extremely good performer and at the old price its a great buy.
