Very good video for someone who is considering fitting EFI. All the pros and cons considered. Many of which I hadn't thought of. Very well balanced video 👍👍👍

If you are old school expert carb. mechanic, go carb. If don't know a thing about carb, do yourself a favor, GO EFI !! Simple !!

Carbs= fuel first, then air. Injection meters fuel by airflow. A drag car needs fuel first but doesn't turn corners so carbs work for that application. A rock bouncer on the other hand, will benefit from injection, it will stay consistent at any angle of g force influence.

Carburators have never caused me trouble in any temperature or weather conditions, and I've always lived in -40 - 100F conditions with 71 models onward. As long as they are periodically cleaned and adjusted every 5-10 years or so. And I'm talking cars and motorcycles. And I always passed emissions tests with 0% of anything bad. EFI may have some extreme conditions where it may beat a carb by a few percent in some performance parameters, but the amount of mining, industry, and production for all the added parts EFI requires creates a lot more damage to the air+environment than carbs ever did, IMHO. Electronics are a scheme to profit more as I see it. It's a development in profiteering, not really a development in environmental conservation or engine performance. If airplane engines run fine with carbs from -60 - 120F, from 500ft below sea level to 25,000ft above, there's no reason cars+motorcycles can't. And that not even including all the extra labor+materials+expenses involved in the computers that are required to read and manipulate the onboard computers. Nor is it including the fact that EFI does not monitor all appropriate changes in atmospheric conditions. Generally, they monitor air mass flow and an exhaust sensor which is not enough for the variety of driving conditions.

After watching so many videos of people having problems with EFI I decided im going to stick with my carburetor set up. I haven’t had any issues with my Edelbrock AVS2 yet and its been turning on and running even in cold temperatures below 40F. I don’t have to worry about my ECU going out or O2 sensor going out on me.

I did a swap to the FAST EFI on a 82 CJ5 JEEP, I live in CO. it would start up bump of a key at -10 below no problem 4X4 on jeep roads at two miles high. The point is that I had a lot of problems with the EFI, leaving me stranded from fuel pump relay or O2 sensor and ect. The carb would run like shit at two miles high but it never left me stranded. And it was about 3500 for the EFI. I should have put the $ in a paint job 😆😆MPG the carb got 18mi the EFI 14 mi

@@christophershea2952 exactly! With a EFI you’re pretty screwed if it breaks down. I just recently installed a wideband gauge and a pressure regulator with a pressure gauge and now my carburetor on my K5 runs so much better now. The wideband gauge is a must if you want to dial in your carburetor correctly.

Thank you for this video. It's very helpful. I especially appreciate you covering the disadvantages as well. I have a 302 Windsor in a project car, currently with a 600 cfm Holley on an Edelbrock manifold. The carb is definitely not correctly tuned now, with poor driveability. I'm weighing the cost/advantages of retrofit EFI. One thing I'd like to know is whether an aftermarket 4-barrel EFI provides any added hood clearance over an equivalent carb? Seems like it might not need to be as tall without the stack up of concentric venturis, choke plate, etc.

My advice is avoid any throttle body with a built in ECU. Heat destroys ecus. I toasted two. Get a remote mounted ecu.

F.I.is definitely better but parts companies are out for one thing like everyone else, money!they make it sound so easy and much better which both are fairly true but we don’t all have a couple thousand bucks to throw at our projects especially after they have been built for carb tech..carbs are expensive enough for me and the difference in power doesn’t warrant it but yes they are better.nice car and thumbs up on the tunnel ram, glad to see carbs on em.

My question is about the alcohol gelling with my carbs problem. I can take jelled gas and fuel injector and start and run. I'm tired of cleaning carbs. But, I'm a serious amateur, so what about fuel gel problems?

If your vehicle sits for extended periods of time or you live in a very humid climate, using non-ethanol (some call it off-road gas) or a fuel stabilizer designed for use with ethanol fuel when the fuel is fresh will go a long way from reducing modern fuel from going bad

im trying to do more research on carburetors… I have a chevy camaro 231 cu in 3.8l with a 2bbl carb. Are 4bbl better than 2bbl? Ive seen people put 4bbl carb on a 2bbl intake… is that damaging???

like you could not damage the engine with a carb that runs lean... you love to deal with clogged fuel residue in your carb every single freaking time you wana start the darn thing after sitting for some time. just go up a hill and you need to retune the darn carb. you then get off the hill, needs to tune again. carbs are nice and all, but they are just a pain in the ass. its a no brainer. EFI wins.

I got a 67 Ford Thunderbird 390 cc 6.4 l. I'm having all boats of trouble with the carburetor The car stalls on me I have to give it a bunch of gas when I start it. The carb has been rebuilt I've spent money at the shop looking over vacuum lines or different things. I'm not a car guy I don't wrench on cars am I better off going with an EFI conversion and just spending the money or taking this thing to the shop every time it has a problem with the carb. I don't want to wrench on the car but I want to own it and I want to make it work somewhere or other So what do I do in my situation I'm not going to work on my car cuz frankly I don't fucking want to I just want to drive it and enjoy it I don't think I have to do the work in the car too Have fun I bought it It's mine I can do with it as I want. I just want something that works I turn it on and it starts and goes.

I stopped reading when you said im not a car guy and don’t wrench on cars. Yes EFI is amazing on new cars or cars that were equipped with EFI originally. However if you convert your car that originally had a carb to EFi you’re gonna have way more problems.
