I just realized after watching the video so many times, she says “10s havent been a very good card for me” and then the last card that causes her to win $28,800 is a 10. Poetic.

And remember she did this before the "Push" rule was implemented which means a double on any of those turns would have busted her, which makes it all the more remarkable.
I'll tell you one thing, which is, since this was a couple of years before the push rule was added to the money cards, I don't think that I would have had the guts to do what Norma did.
@JMFabiano she won her next game, at the money cards, she busted on the first level but had a perfect run from there on and added another $3,200. She lost match 3 so she left with $32,200....not too shabby. 😁
@@calhoun24 I agree, Question: I wonder how Jim Perry, Bob Eubanks, Bill Rafferty or Joel McHale would reacted to that? I wonder how Lacey, Susanna, Alexis & Jerry along with Janice, Ann, Lois and Markie Post react to something like if that were to happen?
@@KentB3 I agree, there was another lady in the Jim Perry Era almost went to SHOOT THE MAX, she had $7200 and when a 6 popped up bet $500 which was smart, but ended up with $15,400 also, in the Bob Eubanks Era, 2 ladies came close from hitting the max of $32,000 One of which was Faith who won $29,000, she saved $1000 on a King and got a Queen and saved $1000 on a Queen and got a Jack, she was afraid to bet it all because an Ace beats a King and an Ace & a King beats a Queen and there was another contestant named Lisa who had $16,000 and changed the card before the Big Bet and got a 9, yet bet ½ and got $24,000 and Susanna showed the last spare was an Ace, comes to show you that you never know what's behind the cards In the Joel McHale Era, a contestant named Heidi won $200,000 which is most money ever given away on Card Sharks, but all in all, no one did it better than Norma Brown

When I was a kid, my grandpa built me a Card Sharks board, and I would act like I was Jim Perry, he's my favorite host of Card Sharks, and I love the opening music of this version the best too.
📺If I had "broken the bank" in a similar game show presentation on TV, I would have been screaming like a little girl on a high-speed roller coaster; giggle!🤭

Other than the 2nd pilot, this was the only time the full prize was given away. Also to note, both these times featured the queen of hearts as the big bet's base card.
When playing Money Cards when doubles meant you lose, the three remaining queens would've been deadly, not to mention the 3 kings and 3 aces left in the deck. I always like to mention a "Danger Level." That's the number of cards that could bust someone if they go all in. In Norma's case, that danger level was "9."
The fact a max win happened once in about five pilots and once in over 1,000 actual money cards rounds shows how much harder it is to bet everything and shoot for the max win when you're playing for actual money!
@@gameshowguy2000 Core gameplay? No...that function of a game show must ALWAYS have S&P present in each and every step of production to make sure there's equal odds for wins and losses. S&P can also cause players to come back if there's ever a screw-up in terms of misunderstood clues, questions, technical errors, et al. There's a clip here on RU-vid, for example, that shows the giant decks of cards used on the show being shuffled, and that there was an S&P person standing beside the table to ensure total randomness was indeed carried out on the shuffle. o.o
@RaginRonic Yes, but it's different for pilots, since (usually) no actual cash/prizes are awarded and they're merely intended to show how the game works...in fact, when GSN showed a marathon of unsold pilots ("GS Turkeys") for Thanksgiving 1998, they aired a disclaimer before each one which stated: "The following game show was taped as a 'pilot', or demonstration show. Real prizes may not have been awarded, and contestants may have been paid actors and may have been supplied answers in advance."

The first and so far ONLY time in Card Sharks history anyone, in any version including the recent revival and not counting Pat Bullard's Card "GUPPIES" in 2001 has anyone won the top amount at the Money Cards. Therefore this is what I would call "pulling a Norma Brown" which would mean on the Joel McHale version winning $640,000.

NBC limited the amount of days or times a contestant could be on a show ( Note that this is the reason why Barbara Phillips is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first in daytime television to win over $100,000 in a single day and left with $151,689 and this includes the cash jackpot of $68,000). ABC started with a $20,000 limit and in 1982 raised the limit to $50,000. CBS had various limits to winnings seen here: 1972-1978: $25,000 1978-1982: $25,000-$35,000 1982-1984: $25,000-$50,000 1984-1986: $50,000-$75,000* (* denotes hard cap implemented after Michael Larson took CBS and "Press Your Luck" for $110,237. CBS also implemented a five day limit on top of the winnings limit with "Body Language" imposing a six day limit.) 1986-1992: $75,000-$100,000* 1992-2006: $125,000* Since 2006 there's no hard cap on winnings.
I love those winning limits. The reasons CBS and ABC posed the winning limits was because of the 1950s quiz scandals such as Tic-Tac-Dough, the $64,000 question and twenty-one which was created by Dan Enright and Jack Barry.
If this were my show,Norma would have won double the $28,800 plus a $100,000 bonus.On the very next show if she were to go all the way a 2nd with the money cards--she would win $1,000,000 & a new car 🚙 & automatically be retired as champion!!
