i was still a child when this was happening. its actually so painful and heartbreaking that i never got to see them live bc im too young (and in the US). finding the cardiacs changed everything for me. its a terrifying power they have, to make music like this, so much and for so long. i didnt know music could mess up my world like this. dang
Always happy to hear of younger people who've discovered them, had the good fortune to have move to London before they stopped playing. Even got to see him play with Sarah and nick as the sea nymphs at a pokey little pub in Camden.

Im so sorry Tim has left us, but he left us with so much beautiful music. he was passionate and made so many bands be so much better. Thank you Tim XXXXXXXXXXXX
Brilliant and wonderful band that I've only just discovered (yes unfortunately after Tim's passing) such a shame how bands like this are hidden away..... but....it's never too late to become a fan of any music. Chills up my back and hairs on my hairy hair filled body all standing to attention. That's the way we all go.
@@DrumsTheWord It was most likely done on backing track, towards the end of Dirty Boy it's very vocal backing track heavy. It can be done seemless loop forward loop backward, delay with long tailed reverb or even grain synthesis, given it was 2002 it was probably a looped backing track with the 2 female vocalists reinforcing it.
@@gavinbuck8130 In other viedos it's easier to see that the backing vocalists maintain it throughout by taking turns in drawing away from the mic mid note while the other is on mic. Take the breath off mic... get back on the note and fade themselves back towards the mic... then the othe vocalist can fade themselves away and go for their breath...etc
Have a watch of this vid. You can see more clearly what is going on.... especially with the left vocalist who turns her head away from the mic to fade herself out.... breathe and back in. The vocalist on the right favours the lean away from the mic! ha ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ap5ZoKRd-hs.html
This is probably one of the best live videos of Cardiacs I’ve seen. The picture and sound quality is really good. You can see how much the crowd loves Tim and how much he loves the crowd.
I just woke up to this, on Autoplay, after they arrived halfway through a dream I was having. Really weird, but strangely pleasant. I had only ever heard “Is this the Life?” single before, and had never listened to them. They are pretty feckin’ incredible.
Oh wow this is worth sitting down and discussing with someone like a post DMT experience. Glad you discovered them but crazy it was just thrust upon you in such a vulnerable state lol
I remember this concert... the Encore was: 1. Acoustic Version of Duck & Roger the Horse by Tim's one-man-band 2. The Duck and Roger the Horse 3. Is This the Life
I finally get to see the band that introduced me to Cardiacs play with them! I've been wondering about this gig for 13 years and wasn't at all disappointed. Magnificent! Thanks Mike!
In my heart forever Tim Smith, Jim and co members, leaders of the starry skies. Had the strange fortune to have in my bands audience at the bull and gate, John poole was also playing with his band ablemesh. He came up to our vocalist after we finished and kissed him on the cheek.
Mike, this was my first Cardiacs show, and also my first encounter with Oceansize. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for uploading this. You have made my day, my week, and probably my year.
Oh sh*t - thanks for uploading - I remember this as one of the greatest nights of my gigging life - am almost afraid to watch it in case I've remembered it wrong. Doubt it, but I was certainly heroically drunk.
@@swanningabout Reducing the wonderful memory to cold, recorded fact, losing all its context in the moment. Fraught with danger. Still watched it though. Couldn't help myself.
This is beautiful to the power of fuck! Missed it at the time but to be able to experience this momentous gig in such quality a decade-and-a-bit later is glorious! Thank you!
this music is too important to let it end now, it would be good if the band could still carry on performing Tims music with different singers/performers (i'm sure there would be lots of candidates) a bit like the way the blockheads have carried on after ian dury died. whats the genral opinion on this?
I saw them in (either) 1989, 1990 or 1991 at The Venue in New Cross. I keep all my ticket stubs but I don't have that one for some reason. I remember buying a tshirt. Flashes of the gig. That's it. I don't even Know the date. But I am SO glad I saw them. I know I'm in the minority but I'm less of a fan of the latter four piece days, Guns /Sing to God etc but I'd take any version of the band, with Tim, now. But that's not gonna happen. 💫 I think the music that was being created with Kavus would've been sensational.
Wow. I don't know why I never watched this particular video before, but I'm fucking glad I watched it now. If I dare say so, I think this is the best Cardiacs concert recording I've seen to this day. Sheer, crimson-red, heart-bleeding emotion from start to finish. What an atmosphere. I mean just at look at them play Silvery or Signs, for instance. Makes my skin tingle with joy and awe. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the only video recording of them playing songs like Core and Day Is Gone? Can we get a DVD of this, pretty please? If only.
I've never seen them play core or day is gone before either, two of my top cardiacs songs, in fact this whole show is fkig perfection, thanks so much for uploading
I want to die having not been aware during their existence. There are better than Sparks, and on par with Guided By Voices. I would have moved to England to be closer to them.
Nice to have on RU-vid. Almost the best line-up. I 'm annoyed by the backing track. This is too fake. Who's playing the keyboards? Where is Jo and Susan? Just my opinion.
They never wanted anyone to replace Bill Drake, and after that point the backing was always automated (which is why Bob's got headphones on, so that he can drum to the click track) except Dec '98 when Bill joined them as a special guest. All Cardiacs gigs after '91 were like this, although there were special gigs with ex-members such as percussionist Tim Quy, Sarah Smith and Dominic Luckman, and on at least one occasion Jon Poole played live keyboards as well as guitar. Jo Spratley only appeared briefly at a couple of gigs iirc. Not sure who Susan is: do you mean Sharron Fortnam? Nobody cared about the tapes in the gigs, trust me.
More like a heavy dose of magic mushrooms to make sure you remember every detail. Appreciate the sentiment but I feel like 100 beers would make you not remember the concert at all lol..
If you don't sign the red dotted line, you will never be famous. this is the best of British. I know ,i wrote a very famous track and received nothing or credibility.
As Hiro said, it's Silvery, which Jon Poole wrote. If you want the only studio recording version, go to randomjonpoole on Bandcamp and find The God-Damn Whores album (it's on there as "Sparkly Silvery Sky", and it's very good).
i've seen this concert so many times now I wouldn't find the money for all the enterance tickets :-D , it's so good, filling up the gap of the past when I totally missed-out Cardiacs... Just love them! ♥
