It is so true how deep the “Pope-splaining” thing goes with Lofton, to the point that he swings his arms blindly at anyone even claiming to be slightly confused by anything Pope Francis says. I think I commented here a while back with this but I remember commenting on his video about my confusion over Fiducia Supplicans. I was in RCIA at the time and completely unaware of the Catholic online space and was only vaguely familiar with trads or any sort of infighting at all. I casually watched a few creators, just to learn new info on the faith in my free time, Lofton being one of them. I read the document and had some questions because I thought he would help me harmonize my fears with my understanding of it. He commented that my confusion could only have come from being uncharitable or brainwashed by schismatics, and there was no way I could’ve read it in good faith and still feel conflicted, and called me to repent. At the time I didn’t even know what a schismatic was, I don’t think lol 😂

The document looked clear to me the first time I read it, by the way.

@@rickjelliffe1580 no, the hermeneutic of generosity can not be applied if basic principles of reason are violated, such as contradiction. Without specifically rebuking the sin that is obvious during the blessing or a call to repentance, any blessing with both people present is an encouragement that they can receive salvific grace from God and remain in sin. It also tells the world that this sin is now acceptable (even though it says it rejects it as disordered).

I tend to try to check myself, as I am a recent Catholic revert who has biases towards tradition and want to make sure I’m not in an echo chamber. I used to use Lofton as a sense-check to make sure my inner “trad” wasn’t getting too “rad”. I couldn’t do it anymore once his tirade against *anyone* who had *any* doubts about FS started

To those saying you are just "gossiping," they need to realize how damaging Lofton's sophistry is to people who are trying to hold to the true Faith or to people interested in the Catholic faith. He's just confirming the Protestant or Orthodox criticism that Catholics blindly follow the Pope even against the Faith itself, if possible. To call out Lofton is to justly condemn someone who is causing scandal and an undue feeling of guilt in sincere, confused Catholics. Lofton's attitude is causing countless people right now to either leave the Church or not join.

I’ve heard from multiple people that claim to know Michael Lofton personally that on weeks when he can’t import his out-of-state Ruthenian priest to say Mass at his private chapel, that he goes to an Orthodox liturgy instead of the local (relatively well-done) Novus Ordo. Apparently he got into a disagreement with his local Latin bishop. He was disciplined by his local ordinary. That is why he originally converted to Eastern Orthodoxy. Then when he reverted back to Catholicism, he set up a private chapel and talked a Ruthenian priest to come from Texas to say Divine Liturgy in his house. Apparently he still refuses to be reconciled with his local Latin bishop. Lofton, if these accusations are true, is an actual dissenter; he is projecting his dissent onto others.

Look..I feel bad saying this about Lofton..maybe I shouldn't, considering, but I still I do..but it seems as if maybe Lofton has like a "fat boy" complex, and I'm not saying this to be mean..maybe he was picked on in school or maybe even had some insecurities and wasn't picked on..now, as an adult, that's manifested maybe into always being right, ABOUT EVERYTHING, and making sure people know where they're wrong..especially the ones that say something critical against him..no matter how innocent, he is unable to take ANY criticism..put on top of that a RU-vid channel that's doing well, even if it wasn't achieved by moral means..THAT'S A RECIPE FOR DISASTER!!..let us all pray for Michael and pray for the day that theology and preaching etc will be in and remain in the hands of competent orthodox clerics.......I also think he's been through so many freakin' religions that he can't criticize anything coming out of the Vatican for fear of defecting once again to another faith, or at least looking like it..once again, one has to ask why he changes faiths so often..is it the insecurity thing formentioned?..or is he just a grifter?..or a combination of everything? Lofton talks a big game against those he labels dissenters... yet he basically built his own ecclesial jurisdiction on his own authority: an entire chapel in his garage (with an iconostasis, altar, and all the fixings), invited a priest to drive all the way from Texas to offer liturgies *AND* invited/encouraged other people to come and attend Sunday Liturgy there. All without any approval from any bishop of any rite. This isn't just "having an icon corner" or a "house chapel" room, this is getting into "sede garage masses" territory. Michael basically created his own parish out of thin air and on his own authority. Michael has, what they pointedly call in the rap game, "a short memory": you can spend 70 years of your life serving the Church... but express one little contrary thought and you're excommunicated and publicly pronounced "you're not Catholic" by Patriarch Michael of the universal See of West Monroe, Louisiana. Edit: Lofton is still a neophyte (>5 years formally in the Church), and despite that being a canonical impediment to even be admitted to the seminary, Michael has somehow convinced himself he can make a career being an authoritative public figure in Catholic media [btw as a matter of principle I don't think *any neophytes* should build public accounts/channels/platforms about Catholicism, *cough* Nick *cough* ;) ]

He also went after the channel Classical Theist viciously for some of the softest and most benign criticism possible. All Classical Theist did was critique one bit of one argument of Michael Lofton’s. And Lofton dedicated an hour stream to name-calling and mockery. Classical Theist offered to have a dialogue, and Lofton mocked him even further and said he was “not going to engage with someone so uncharitable” without a hint of irony!

It's all about clicks. A wiser man would stop and reexamine his life if someone like Cardinal Zen addressed him in any way. But not Loftdawg. He is milking this for all its worth. I really feel sorry for his audience, probably most of them good Catholics who are starving for someone to feed them the blue pill and as luck would have it, Loftdawg is happy to oblige.

I watched R&T a good bit for a while when Ybarra was on and then I stopped watching for a bit and when I went back it was just Lofton and he was a completely different person. Dr Taylor Marshall recently said (without specifically saying Loftons name) that he thinks people who respond the way he does are scared but genuine. He's someone who has left the Church and came back to it and now is faced with a Papacy that is utterly confusing and he's scared he will leave again so instead he just doubles down on the Ultra Montanist stance as a defense mechanism.

The reason we have tradition is because the tradition is supposed to be the thru line between hierarchy, between popes and bishops and eras. For Lofton all that matters is what current Pope (and a lot of the popesplainers who aren't just liberals) says and if there is a contradiction with past pontiffs or teachings theb those teachings are wrong. One would like to see them defend their current position against a future Pope who changes things again

He, Lofton, often down not argue in good faith and misrepresents the argument he is trying to counter. For example, he declared that having the recognize and resist position if a pope is confusing is sinful and is a defection from the obedience due the pope. When responding by asking what a person should do if something that looks heretical is being taught, he responds that that is impossible that a pope could be a heretic. This is despite the many anti-popes that have existed in history.

Huh? A person is not an anti-pope because they taught heresy or were a heretic. They were elected by some faction of cardinals, and may have accepted in good faith. In any case, how would a heretical anti-pope prove that an undisputed pope (ie accepted by the full conclave at the time and by the people at the time) could be a heretic?

Michael Lofton provides a balance that is needed on RU-vid. We had Michael Voris and many like Taylor Marshall giving a different balance.and we need that too. Grew up in the 50's and there would have been no talk of anything except maybe Protestantism which I think was much stronger. .Over the last 50 years, Protestant Churches have weakened but are still a major force and I may be underestimating their influence. Since 2000, the Muslim religion has become an issue..

The nitpicking of terminology vis-a-vis “sedevacantism,” wherein people say that those who believe that one or more of the recent popes were not real popes but not all since 1958 is not really “sedevacantism” can be cured by a simple capitalization. Sedevacantism clearly means the belief that the seat is vacant. Using an uppercase S could signify a specific brand of sedevacantism that holds that no popes since 1958 (or other more specific but slightly different subtypes), while using a lowercase s could simply signify the more generic opinion that, say, Pope Francis is not the pope. Then, we can stop wasting time complaining or lecturing that people aren’t using the word correctly when we clearly know what they mean when they use it in a generic way.
