Holy, this channel is amazing. I'm a medical student myself with an interest in interventional cardiology, so naturally this channel is gold-dust for someone like me. Thanks for all your hard work.

I'm 66, no heart-related symptoms, I exercise 3-5 times a week, watch my carbs, eat well, normal weight. I don't smoke and drink very moderately. Lipid panel blood work is always good, EXCEPT LDL is stubbornly slightly high at 108. My BP has always been borderline 130s to 140s/70s typically. Due to the LDL and borderline BP my doctor sent me for a Calcium score. Came in at 1416: LMA=0 LAD=369 LCX=442 RCA=605 I gotta admit, I feel like a dead man walking right now.

I had a cardiac CT last week. Neither the cardiologist nor the hospital told me not to drink coffee beforehand (I hope it didn't affect the test, but I routinely have half-caff). The radiologist sent me the results - in medical lingo, of course! but my cardiologist won't be meeting with me for 2.5 weeks. All I can say is that this is not comforting to an anxious patient. I'm trying to learn what I can from reputable sources (such as yours, webmd, nih, mayo clinic etc) but that's no substitute for a good doctor-patient relationship.

I had an appointment today and had to reschedule because I couldn't get my heart rate below 75. It has to be that low, preferable in the 60's, in order for them to get clear pictures. I wish I had known this ahead of time as I would have told my doctor that I get nervous for medical procedures. My heart races when I get my BP taken. So I know that I likely would not be able to keep my heart rate below 75 for the whole test, even though my at home resting pulse is 60 or below. The tech was very kind and let me relax and breath and try to get my rate down. It helped, but as soon as I knew we were going to start the procedure my heart rate shot up again. As soon as she took the EKG off my my heart rate dropped to 75. I've tried in vain to get past this phobia, but I just can't. She will speak to my Dr. about giving me a beta blocker before the next time I do the procedure. If I had only known this I would have asked for it in the first place, knowing my issue, and saved myself the time, the drive, and the stress. Just wanted to post this in case someone else has my issue, they can talk to their Dr. and maybe save themselves a wasted visit. And no caffeine/chocolate or anything like that before the test. Crossing my fingers for the next time I try. If the beta blocker doesn't work I am not trying again.

@22cobbie I just had the test within this past week and they told me that a prescription for metoprolol would be called in for me at a high dosage than I normally take (I usually take 25mg per day), but I picked up a prescription with a higher 50mg dosage and I was told to take one tablet of 50mg 12 hours prior to the test and then another 50mg tablet 2 hours before the test and then to bring the last tablet along with me to the test in case I would need to take that dosage. So by the time I got there, my heart rate was at the rate that they wanted it to be which was about 60 bmp or so. Also I was told not to have any caffeine 12 hours prior to the test.

I had one of these scans two months ago my heart rate was over 90 bpm but they didn’t give me the beta blocker and my BMI was very high also , the results stated poor scan results because of my bmi and high heart rate I was very disappointed and would like to have an MRI of my heart privately done will the mri show plaque build up may I ask ? Thank you for your channel it’s most informative 😊

@@TheHeartDoctorIt turns out my luck was good. Actually, fantastic. I had an app't after the CT with my cardiologist. They did a full ECG before to confirm what's going on. I don't know if it's the vitamins I'm taking, or my way to now reduce stress to almost nothing or what it is, but, somehow, my VT is GONE! Just PVCs, which are "benign". Blood flow is fine. Heart structure just fine too, which is what I was concerned about. So, the ablation is not necessary and is now cancelled. THAT'S THE OUTCOME I could have only dreamed of!

Hi, what are your thoughts on latest research about Cholesterol which explains No significant relationship of LDL as cause of heart stroke and rather sugar/carbs being the main culprit.

I am having a cardiac Cath next week & I am scared because 12 years ago I had an allergic reaction to the contrast during a cat scan. I never will forget it, my heart started to pound, it was not just the hot feeling that would be going through me that I felt, the feeling that happened was almost indescribable. They are aware of this but I wanted to ask if I am under sedation, will I even feel that going in me? (I am hoping not) Thank you for your time.

Very good to have watched this. I will be having a Cardiac CT scan in about 3 days. What is the reason to have someone drive you to the hospital? Is driving permitted after the scan?
@TheHeartDoctor
@TheHeartDoctor 7 месяцев назад
It's good to have someone with you incase you experience any side effects to the medication administered to slow your rate down or to the contrast dye. I would avoid driving yourself and take public transport instead, if possible. Good luck with the scan.
