Jtano, if qualified you can join at age 17 with parental consent during your junior or senior year in high school as part of The Air Force Ambassador Program and enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP). However, you will not go to Basic Military Training (BMT) until after you graduate high school. Everyone is different and the challenges are different for each person. However, we recommend members begin to prepare prior for the physical aspects of basic training before they leave. You may download the Aim High app and use the 14 week fitness program to help prepare. Good morning, Morgan. Here is a brief summary of the process of joining the U.S. Air Force: 1.) Interview with an Air Force Recruiter to determine your moral, and initial eligibility to join. 2.) ASVAB exam: The test that one takes to enlist in the Air Force is called the ASVAB. It covers 8 general subjects. It will test not only your current knowledge but also your propensity to learn in different subject areas. 3.) Physical and medical exam: Your recruiter will schedule you to take your physical at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). The recruiter will brief you on proper attire to wear for your trip to the MEPS. You will be at the MEPS the entire day. You will take a complete physical exam to include, hearing, eye, and range of motion tests. You will be given blood tests and a urinalysis test as well. Sometimes additional medical consultations are required to ensure your eligibility so your physical may take more than one day. 4.) To qualify for enlisted you must be a US citizen or possess a USCIS Form I-551 (green card) status in their possession, solely indicating permanent resident status. What I don't understand is that the Air Force and Air National guard are struggling desperately to recruit, I recently heard numbers are as much as 40% down. Special tactics can't get enough people into the pipeline and are offering 40 and $50,000 bonuses to complete pipelines, and ST and regular Air Force and ANG are offering quick ship bonuses. Even with great benefits that the service offers, you're not getting enough candidates nor enough good candidates. I am absolutely already meeting special tactics entry IFT requirements and then some, have the mindset, various soft and hard skills required, maturity, availability, etc. I would also be excited about quite a few Air National guard roles. I would not be able to give 20 years in order to retire but would give as many as I can before forced retirement, and as such the government wins because they'll never have to pay me out pension for the rest of my life. I have documentation showing that the very vast majority of service members across all branches are only giving one or two contracts worth of service, and something like only 14% or 16% retire from the Air Force. So the common unofficial excuse that you'd have to be able to put in 20 years in order to retire lacks common or practical sense. I have official Air Force documentation identifying that more than 50% of medical waivers are approved, and other waivers such as criminal, etc., as well. Meanwhile you're not doing age waivers? Why not???

Im currently in development for tacp. The special warfare recruiters are very busy, its common for them to take a long time to respond. Persoanlly i went through a regular air force recruiter. After i qualified at meps my regular recruiter got me in contact with a special warfare recruiter and the special warfare recruiter gave me my development coaches number and set up an ift.

The failures sure, SW has a between 70-95% attrition rate depending on the pipeline I believe. Numbers say you will most likely fail.
