I switched to my personal account for this one because I don't want to speak for our unit, but we AFSPECWAR need to create a small unit tactics (SMUT) course as the first training block post A&S. This way, all SW operators have the same solid foundation. PJs and CCT guys going through OTC have differing levels of basic tactical skills; I argue it's because they learn them at different places. Let's bring the basics to everyone at the same time then split off for specialty skills!!! Trey
Wish there was SUT, SERE, and other schools that most branches have a school for, at a SOCOM level. I think it would help a lot with communication and teamwork between the different commands.
The AF should have a smut that's based on Army Ranger small unit fighting organization and tactics as that's basically the min std for Army SF that AF goes to war with. It should also be extended to AF security units that are so critical to asset protection.
So if you get an Afspecwar open enlisted contract, after A&S is that when the cadre will suggest or point towards a career field? I’ve always wanted to help people and from firefighter to PJ was the goal. But with people talking about SR being a new unit and like the Wild West essentially, it makes a ton of intrigue.
What happened 2 all the CWT? Did they get 2 go out for SR? But I no there was more schools in the Pipeline, like,CCT/PJ. When they go out, do they go with a team, of other SR, or do they attachv, 2 like a SFODA?
I'm 28 is it to late to enlist and try for CCT or SR havent fully chose which path yet! Just want to continue the family military tradition my Grandfather actually retired at Nellis as an E9 Peaches may know him as well Hilary McGartlin Aircraft Matienece Superintendent! Also curious on training tips as far as gripping and rucking that you guys could recommend! Thanks great episode!
Definitely not too old. Lots of folks come through and are successful in your age range. Start rucks light and increase weight/distance over time. Farmer carries and pull-ups for grip. See you soon.
Marine Infantry here, 1984-1993. Ran across a few of you over my years, over the Globe. Everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Really appreciated Crosstraining with other services. Came in handy during Desert Storm. Semper Fi
So true, I believe one’s ready really only goes on the surface of the Special Warfare pipeline, the simple excuse that it’s confidential information is BS. They really can just be vague on what they went through on the job without giving specific locations names or classified information. I think viewers would like to know if they have ever encountered real life dangers or situations on the job and how they had to overcome them. After all not everything will remain the same and it’s best to just provide what you have gone through (with filtration of sensitive info.) Yet I feel like these guys are too vague, often times the info they can’t provide I find online on reddit or other sources. One’s Ready is really just a mainstream platform.. no hate I just see room for improvement.
Even though SR has one of the highest attrition rates I'm focused and determined. Though a lot of people would say I'm scared for not enlisting right away, I don't really care I'd rather gain some life experiences and prepare myself both mentally and physically to the max so I can be at my best during the selection process.
@@Sweetleaf2001 Pretty well, 2 more years to prepare (that's when I'm done with college) been doing as much swimming, rucking and doing anything and everything to build muscle/endurance. My main goal is big on endurance tho.
@@WamaziTech Same man. I love that and as a 17 year old I'm beginning to really try and get myself to my best possible form through hopefully a lot of physical and mental training before I get there
Listened to this 3 times through already. Thanks for this guys, and thanks for the clear answers here and the work you’ve put into making SR what it is Trent.
I gotta agree with Aaron this was one of the best episodes I have heard! This is going to intrigue a lot of people about SR and definitely has moved it to the top of my list. To have these capabilities and be able to provide this kind of support for combat teams is what it’s all about!
This is exactly what i was looking for. I tried finding more information on the AF website, but it didn't even come close to this. Overall great video. Im joining the AF, and im going to get into SR.
I was a Security Police Sargeant from 1978 to 1983 and was always pushing to learn more , I read every Army field manual while i was at Spangdahlem A.B. .I'm really glad that the Air Force is training its people for everything we have to do .
You guys are very cool. I am a Wilderness First Responder and use some of the same skills, and always willing to learn. I met a lot of SR guys this year on the AT, for some reason the AT was air force heavy last year! Great hikers and really competent in backcountry skills.
The Appalachian Trail? I know a few and can rarely visit with them because they are always in the trenches. There are so few of them too ~150 in the world. So it's always interesting when you spot one.
Yup a trio decompressing and travelling on a thru hike. Great guys, very unassuming also ran into a 75th Ranger Regiment operator. I guess spec ops likes the trail. @@gemum4219
Can I just say from this old fat jarhead. You guys are the most badass pretty men I've ever seen :) . Keep up the awesome job and thank you for everything you all do.
Great info! Thanks a lot! Is an SR contract available for the Guard and/or reserves? I see that Combat Weather was available in the guard, but can’t find if SR is for sure. Thank you!
I'm really having a hard time choosing between going weather technician or trying to go for special reconnaissance. Any advice both welcomed, and appreciated.
By weather technician do you mean regular Air Force weather man or SOWT? SR is the rebranded SOWT AFSC so you wouldnt have a choice there really. If you're meaning a regular USAF weather guy then there's a very large difference. You can choose to go the tough route and train your balls off and go through a long ass pipeline for a funny hat and not regret a minute of it, or you can take it easy and go through a normal tech school and have a normal job and be content with where you are. Nothing wromg with it but they are very, very different careerfields for very different people.
One of the best episodes, guys. I went another route in my military time, let alone too old to reroute, but I can imagine you're about to be inundated with recruits as word continues to blow up about this side of AFSOC. I'm Team SR.
One of my favorite and most informational episodes so far. Thank you to all of you for doing these. Plus a special thank you to Trent. I really respect at how serious you take this and how much it means to you.
I’m an Aircraft maintainer on F16s and I’ve been thinking about jumping into this career field or SERE for “AWHILE” now to do something bigger in the Airforce and to be surrounded by individuals with a similar mindset because all I hear i work with is individuals who constantly complains..even about the easy shit, have no vision for the Airforce, unmotivated, bad team players etc. I’ve been in going on 4 years this year and I feel like time is ticking and I need to get off my ass and decide what I’ll be doing next in my Airforce career. This is excellent information I’ll use to make my decision💯. Maybe one day I’ll be getting my hands dirty down in ole SR.
I maintained f16 also but xfer to army national guard. If you have mindset to become closer to your brothers, i would say go for it. It made a big difference to me to work with ppl that are hard core and believe in the values we adhere to. Never quit
@@speedracer2336 The brits pioneered SOF and were the best in the world, arguably still are. Only a prideful idiot would not take advantage of what they were willing to share.
I know someone other than the Ones Ready crew can answer this. Are their officers for SR? i only see info regarding CRO and STO. Thanks in advance, any info is appreciated 🙏 Also, does anyone know if there's waivers for the age cutoffs? There are for things like SEAL and SF. Thanks 👍
Everyone should be in awe. PJ…f’n PJ. With tiers 1 & 2, and easily the smartest & coolest under pressure in the military, along with DEVGRU and Delta 👍🙏
The host looks and sounds exactly like RU-vidr Nikko Ortiz jokes about when he has his " Air Force" charàcter!!!😂 But truthfully? USAF made the right decision the Special Ops weathermen had value but times change and one source intell is problematic. It's akin to why you get a second opinion from doctors before a major surgery. USAF may need info for their operation that Navy Seals didn't get or may not come fast enough from a unit like force recon Marines or Rangers recon units. Plus in combined arms , SR units may bring additional information to Army and Navy and Air Force commanders
Three seniors (meteorology majors) from my detachment ended up in this pipeline when I was a freshman in AFROTC. I don’t know what ever happened to those guys. I hope they’re still in after a decade kicking butt.
I'm a Marine, 5831 Corrections educated at Lackland in 93'. I'm born and raised SATX as well and work in my SA currently. I have some friends that are Air Force bad asses. Like you three, quietly confident alphas that walk among civilians but are head and shoulders above them in character. Really enjoyed this video. I appreciate what you men have done for the country and the sacrifices you've made to do it. I'm 49 and feel line reenlisting having watched your videos.
Thanks for the video! Looked everywhere for more information on SR and finally found it! Will be leaving here for sw in a few months and I'm going to do my damn best to get into SR !
I just finished my first semester of college and AFROTC. I get so pumped up learning about special forces and I wonder if going the officer route is the right thing for me.
@@gabrielwilliams5387 hey man if you're going to go to college anyways might as well try it out. I've loved it and the experience learning about leadership and working towards field training has been tough but satisfying. The scholarship has been cool but if you're not interested in studying STEM probably best to find another way to pay for college.
I would love to do Special Reconnaissance for the Air Force. My father is a Marine and this type of route is one that'll be amazing to be apart of. What ASVAB score is needed to try and enlist into this program? Online I keep seeing 66, 50, 77 on general but I don't know which score is correct? Which sections on the ASVAB need a high score specifically for this type of job? I understand there isn't a guarantee in landing a role especially after the ASVAB
@@OnesReady How difficult it is to get enrolled into the program? What can an individual due to increase their chances of enrollment? Is there anyone (other than a recruiter) I can speak to with experience in the program? Any point of contact would be greatly appreciated
Can you help me understand what you’re asking? It looks Ike you’re asking ‘how hard is it to enlist for SR’ and ‘other than a recruiter who can I talk to’? If so- the recruiter is your one stop shop. 2, do you mean an individual SR guy? My bad if I didn’t understand correctly, just not getting your meaning. - A
@@OnesReady The first question was how difficult it will be to get into the program? As in, is there a statistic rate on the individuals that qualify? How many enlist and don't make it? (Other than the ASVAB) Last question was if there is an individual who is apart of SR that I can speak with? I've already spoken with a recruiter but I was given general information about the program. Talking with an actual special reconnaissance individual would be beneficial as I get to speak with one, hear their experience, and so on and so forth. If possible? My apologies for the late response.
I keep on procrastinating when it comes to going to see the recruiter and ask about AFSOC. I had asthma as a kid but currently I’m able to run 6 minute miles no problem, and I’m at the top of my physical performance. But I’m nervous about what the answer is going to be, if I can even join the military or not due to my medical history. I don’t know if I was diagnosed with asthma but I do remember taking advair as a kid. I don’t think I had any issues after turning 13.
With the airforce sending 3 out of the 4 ground units going through the special operations pipeline I feel like they almost got all their bases covered to have their own special operations teams as opposed attaching to other units. They got medical, recon, two different air asset versions- sheesh they could just make their own "Seal Teams" "SF" groups.
There are situations that dictate USAF unilateral action but being able to step into a sister service team and perform is a unique capability with broad impacts. -T
I have watched all about CCT, PJ, and SR nearly all the videos on this channel and im more confused than ever on which one i want to go for. All of them have such awesome interesting capabilities and skill sets. Is there any in particular thats needing more man power heading into 2023? Or is there an opportunity to switch if one does need more man-power earlier in the pipeline? Well later in the podcast they talked about this specifically haha
I’m not in AFSOC or even in the AF but I can tell you that right now, right after GWOT there is some downsizing going on. Rightfully so. I’m not saying it’s gonna be a massive thing but optempo is down significantly across all of the DOD so take from you want from that. DOD will ALWAYS need highly skilled people to fill the ranks, don’t get it twisted
Sorry that I’m a new subscriber 😅but I really enjoy your content and this video was really helpful! I’m currently mentally and physically prepping myself for journey ahead.. I honestly feel like this video gave me a major headstart
They said on a podcast SR tries to avoid combat in operations, focus more on collecting information. If you want combat, join an infantry division. If they're in combat, something probably went wrong and they're trying to fight their way out to leave.
First off I got to say thanks for talking about these subjects so in depth. I can't wait to see this channel grow over the next year. I was unsure of what I wanted to do in the Air Force until I came across this channel and heard you guys describe the roles and the type of people who fit those roles. However I've gotten mixed responses in regards to if you should pursue a role as a CCT/PJ/SR as soon as join the Air Force. I've been told that it may be better to wait until you can retrain for various reasons. What are your guys thoughts on joining and waiting vs joining right off the street?
How do you guys only have 17,000 subscribers you guys are literally the Pinnacle of information for people who want to join the military and shoot for a career in the military that's not just ordinary but extraordinary for people who want to be a part of something that only the 1% can be a part of and it's not just the 1% club jobs in the military it's the military itself I'm only watched this video from your channel but I am willing to bet you guys focus on all things military but this is amazing keep up the good work guys 🤘🏻🤘🏻💪🏻
Hahah thanks. Maybe- leave a review, share with your friends? Lol. It’s actually why we got in to this game- the AF doesn’t get a lot of love, compared to SEALs and Rangers and Green Berets… IDK.
Trying to find info, current Combat Engineer USMC, looking to come over. When will spots open up? Was told to keep calling back and checking up from multiple special warfare recruiters who have never been in special warfare units.
I'm a former AF weather forecaster and instructor and this new AFSC sounds cool as hell. Taught a couple guys at McChord a couple years back, kinda miss that
I'm seriously stoked about this! Very excited to see where this goes. Judging off the other AFSOC careers which are truly the absolute masters of their craft...these guys are gonna be the best goddamn recce troops in existence. That is a promise. USAF vet HUA!!! Kind of funny...it's like the ugly girl in grade school that grows up to be the hottest thing around. They done took the least known, and probably most looked down upon (falsley mind you!) SOF field in existence and made it probably the most badass SOF field there ever was. Sweet.
Perfect!! Oh did I mention I’m 50? Wish I’d known about this 30 years ago tbh I’ve been diving since I was 11 this would’ve been so perfect for me . ❤ super cool 😎 and you guys get to retrieve all the ufos ;) I’m sure
I'm 32 and I served with the Army National Guard. I have been out for the last eight years. I want go TACP or SR. Do I need to get into contact with a regular Air National Guard recruiter or an Airforce Special Warfare recruiter for a fitness test? Any information is helpful. Thank you.
Thank you guys for this video. I was a conventional WX weeny for 20 years and got to work with the 26 STS SOWT on WX training as a contractor while the transition to SR was just getting underway. So, I got to do some cool training like avalanche 1 and soil class in MS. It was a great contractor job. My question is the SR career field still doing tactical surface obs and riverine training? IMO those skill sets would definitely benefit the SR environmental data collection. I think the direction you guys are going in SR is a good thing plus the better integration within the STSs.
I don’t have a dog in the fight bc I’m a fuckup who wasn’t ever really there but I recall a unit that had every kind in it and the army signed the checks. Pajamas, jarheads, a snake eater or two, and the Rangers who God created on the 8th day to put up with them. A rogues gallery that did whatever. Wait I’ve forgot my meds again, but I think it was a LRRP, LRS detachment, or LRSU. Sadly, gone the way of the Willys Jeep. -Old fat guy
Been watching the show for awhile now. Appreciate the knowledge and breakdowns. I feel like that solo picture gives off just the right amount of ambience👌
I'm currently in the summer after finishing my Freshman year of college, I am a Computer Science student who really likes Cybersecurity more. Lately, I've been taking an interest in SR and just AFSPECWAR in general. This video is really informative, and I'm starting to prepare for this.
@@OnesReady I’m the only one in my dev group who wants it. I remember talking with my recruiter about the fields and he was like SR is new, not a lot of information out on it, but it sounded like a challenge that I would like. But I can’t wait to try my best and go for it
@@Ion_Motion0117 don’t worry man. Just graduated prep and I think we have about 15 or 16 SR hard vector guys here me being one of them too. Hope to see you out here soon
I have been looking for a Cyber Special Forces that doesnt sit in an office and this seems to be the closest thing to that. I'm definitely interested What kind of civilian jobs would this translate to?
