This skit really illustrates the difference in skill between Adam and Pete. Driver is giving everything he has to this skit and totally killing it. Meanwhile, Davidson can’t go a minute without breaking character

Pete is very unprofessional. Breaking in this skit could kill it. Thankfully Adam is professional. This is one of my favorite SNL skits off all time and Pete looked like a hack.

Who is John Galt? I'm guessing this was inspired by Atlas Shrugged and There Will Be Blood.

It definitely made me think of There Will Be Blood. Man, the main character in that movie was such a horrible person. I'm now always going to imagine Rex Tillerson being just like this when the cameras aren't on.

@@LAkadian I think you're right. I guess Atlas Shrugged painted wealthy industrialists is a heroic light, but for some reason I always thought There Will Be Blood was inspired as a kind of anti-Ayn Rand horror...I could be projecting my own experiences on things.

Oh and if you've never heard of Edward Bernays, there was a super creepy lecture he gave about the U.S. educational system. Don't want to spoil it, but worth a listen.

You mean in this scene? Bcz you could see the pain in his eyes in the SW movies clearly. Here I think he is reading his lines from cue. His eyes are fixed off to the side rather than at the other people. So while his performance is amazingly funny I don't think he's actually putting alot of effort into it.

@@intheredcold9216 Yeah, if anyone doubts whether Driver emotes with his eyes, they should watch the Han/Kylo Ren scene in The Force Awakens. But I actually think he was staring off because he was trying not to break character. Others in the skit were constantly trying to stifle laughs/smiles and it's pretty hard not to laugh when others are laughing. Based off the reactions, I'm pretty sure that smashing the crow with his cane was improvised, so I think he was putting in at least some effort.

@@intheredcold9216 They change the lines right up to air. It would be nearly impossible for him to memorize everything in that time period. He is putting a lot of effort into this.

He’s an incredible actor, and he commits 100% to every single sketch. He’s an absolute gem of a host, and there aren’t many hosts at his caliber who don’t come from a comedy background

@@kylekiritz2672 I'm wondering if it was even scripted. If they planned for it, they would have made the end of the cane sharp to pierce the prop easier, but it just looks like a normal cane. I wonder if he was backstage before he went on, felt the prop, and just thought "I could probably stab this thing with the cane".

Melissa seemed to be in character by jumping with each strike, others harder to tell.

That makes H.R. Pickens Mordacai's great grandfather on his mom's side.

His commitment to the character instantly made this one of the best skits of all time. The script was good but Driver went all Olivier on us and even the cast couldn’t help but breaking a few times.

It was obviously not scripted, but that's what Julliard teaches you, save a surprise for the performance. It makes for a more authentic reaction. 😻 They should be proud. I would have loved to see the cast's reactions at the first table read.

Meanwhile, Mordecai was just embarrassed by his presence the whole time, even insulting him for not being able to get out of bed. The class even pointed out Mordecai as being the weakest. Once Samantha said she wanted to be just like him, Abraham knew he'd found his true heir.

His character didn't play well off Driver's. The father doesn't come off as one to be mocked as Davidson's character does. Plus, the class identifies him as the weakest in their midst, but he tries to appear strong in publicly contradicting his own father.
