My brother and I grew up here in Carefree Arizona at the base of Black Mountain, which actually used to be a volcano.

What I think is so cool about AZ is because of the terrain and the lack of tall trees, you can literally see for miles from almost anywhere. In contrast to where I am in the Northeast with so many tall maples, oaks, etc... I can't what's going on around the block.

Great Video. Carefree and Cave creek are cool small towns with great scenery, shopping and some great food spots. I heard Gordon Lightfoot interviewd once about his hit song Carefree Highway. He said he was driving from Flagstaff to Phoenix with a friend one late night and he noticed the sign for Carefree Highway. He said now there’s a song and shortly afterwards he wrote the song.

I know Northern Phoenix (NoPho) is a very long drive from your home area. So, thank you and your brother for taking time out of your day to show out-of-state viewers some of the areas of the valley that have remained relatively "natural" desert communities. Carefree and Cave Creek are the last of the "true old west experience" homeowners can have in the Greater Phoenix area. I like the Gilbert and Chandler areas of the valley. However, for me, these areas seem to be more like living in the green-lawn and crowded "burbs" of Southern California than living the "true desert life" found in Northern Phoenix. I had an opportunity to purchase in the Carefree/Cave Creek area during the Great Recession but passed due water resource issues - especially in Carefree.
