Good to see "steam gauged" aircraft. So tired of almost every aircraft in MSFS being the G1000.

Agreed!
@djtaylorutube
@djtaylorutube 3 года назад
If I could give more than one thumbs up I would. Likewise about the G1000. I guess the development team just threw G1000 into so many because it reduced the panel design and simulation requirements of each individual aircraft but as a result, so many feel the same to me and I absolutely loathe trying to find the right pixel to turn the knobs, especially when it's bumpy and harder with head tracking. I wouldn't mind if I could map buttons to the G1000 controls but that's not even an option yet.

@@djtaylorutube Completely agree. I bought this plane and so far love it!
@djtaylorutube

@@SimFanatic yep took a punt and bought it. Happy so far, only noticed one defect which is that if the co pilot handles radio, frequency changes occur without being pushed to the actual radios which continue to display the old frequency. No biggie, I'll just have to not be lazy and handle the radios myself. I did a quick flight in the B58 afterwards and despite the G1000, thought it looks "basic" afterwards, somewhat cartoon like.

I did my commercial multi in the Seminole. It should have a little better performance with one engine out than what i have experienced in fs2020 but it is not egregious. You could have achieved better performance if you had maintained blue line and 0 side slip. One other tip would be to not lower the gear till you are sure of the runway. IRL this plane drops like a rock. The pitch is way too sensitive though lol.
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 3 года назад
Did feek a little twitchy, cheers for the tip
@malloyneil40
@malloyneil40 3 года назад
It is twitchy because of his control sensitivity. I have been flying this around in the sim and not having any issues with sensitivity. My one issue so far is that when doing correct approach and departure stalls I get major wing drops regardless of rudder inputs.
@johnjohnson5496
@johnjohnson5496 3 года назад
@@malloyneil40 I've noticed that in Xplane 11 as well, seems like no matter how perfectly I do a power on, it almost immediately tries to enter a spin, and I even tested it in a C172 which I have actually done spin training in so I know for a fact it is nowhere near that aggressive lol I'm not sure if it's just a thing that a lot of sims are programming into their flight models nowadays, but I remember it not being that way before.

Carenado is renowned for quality GA sim aircraft since FS2004 days, prices are at times a bit steep but its still worth it, the Seneca V is my absolute favourite, apart from the flysimware 414., personally I enjoy steam gauges way more than glass... Even though I already have the Seneca and both normal and turbo Arrows and have no intention or good reason to buy the Seminole, I can't help thinking how cute this plane is, having two engines on a cozy little 4-seater (and it's not much slower than the Seneca if at all), plus I always love your style of reviewing so I'm going back and watching the reviews of planes I wasn't interested in before. I'm willing to out on a limb and bet your a real pilot first time seeing your video and I have to say you actually review the plane unlike alot of other people who focus on the look and sound of the plane purses how it handles in the sim compared to real life and to answer your question they are quite a bit draggy when you lose an engine in a twin
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 3 года назад
Not a bad guess :) The sound and look is important, BUT... how it behaves is far more important to me.. Never flown this twin or any twins myself irl, so its mostly feel I'm going off. Draggy I expected but i do feel its a bit much as both engines running power off is like a brick wall... something the sim does quite a lot with the cessna family I have flown. Is it that draggy on power off dual engine in real life?
@jacobmayhle6650
@jacobmayhle6650 3 года назад
Well you've got to remember that it does have a extra engine so that means more weight so when the stops running now it becomes dead weight that one engine is having to carry, remember the CG kind of like when you do your CG with full tanks of fuel and you run it deplete you change the CG
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 3 года назад
Yeah quite... though i will have to test to see if they simulated the counter rotating engines of the real one to limit the critical engine factor.

Yeah, I was just pushing it to where it could go... and I don't get too deep into the systems for a first look review. Apparently you can only feather over 950 rpm, which i wasn't.
@TrueDrezzer
@TrueDrezzer 3 года назад
Thanks for the review love, especially the engine out test. I just got the plane myself and will try it out myself! I noticed when you turned your flight into a cruise that the prop blades weren't actually in a feathered position, increasing drag. From the POH: "The propellers can be feathered only while the engine is rotating above 950RPM. Loss of centrifugal force [sic] due to slowing RPM will actuate a stop pin that keeps the propeller from feathering each time the engine is stopped on the ground. One engine inoperative performance will decrease if the propeller of the inoperative engine is not feathered." Looks like you'll have to quickly feather the dead engine when losing power.
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 3 года назад
I do most of my review work without reviewing the poh on purpose... A for a more natural first impression and b because most simmers never do... Lets me show them most likely what they will experience. Though I'm not sure the sim will allow that particular mechanism to work it's worth a test.
@TrueDrezzer
@TrueDrezzer 3 года назад
@@AvAngel I just conducted a test. The Carenado Seminole will not keep altitude with an engine out and windmilling. Even at the best rate of climb 88 KIAS and no sideslip, I got around 300fpm of descent. Then I let the dead engine gain speed above 950rpm and feathered it. The blade quickly came to a stop as expected, and this time, I was able to JUST maintain altitude... maybe gain 20fpm by being really careful with the speed, banking, and avoiding sideslip. Definitely not gonna be fun when losing an engine after takeoff!!
@juliashenandoah3965
@juliashenandoah3965 2 года назад
@@TrueDrezzer Most people say "that´s unrealistic, a twin engine plane should at least fly with 50% of it´s maximum speed and still climb with 1000fpm with one engine when it can climb 2000fpm with both..." and so on. But a lot of real pilots for example flying the Beechcraft Baron have stated that loosing one engine makes the airspeed drop down to 80 or 70 knots, and with two people on board sometimes zero climb rate or even only sinking with -20 feet per minute is possible (even if the original POP says with one engine operation climb up to 300fpm is possible in a Beechcraft Baron.) Unlike turbines a second piston engine makes a plane barely safer (it can sometimes continue flying straight ahead only with one pilot and not more than 20% fuel on board with only one propeller). There is an old saying: Twin engines makes a plane not safer - it only brings the pilot faster to the crash site :D

Great vid. Based on your comment I can confirm that single engine performance while not great irl but not that bad in sim Lol what was the elevation at your airport and also what flap setting where you using ? Max Irl 2 knocks of flap with a single operation. I’m also wondering why the engine did not feather properly. I’m thinking because the engine rpm was below 950 and below that the engine won’t feather .
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 3 года назад
Sea level, or at least 20 ft at most, and flaps were clean till final then single knotch. I think RPM was too low, coupled with single throttle quadrant for both engines unfeathering it.

Have you figured out how to fix the magnetos going nuts when you map them to an ignition switch? I have an ignition switch I made and the one on my Honeycomb Alpha. On the switch I made selecting left engine right magneto kills the engine and on the Alpha right engine right magneto makes it click on and off over and over doing random nonsense. Actually selecting left mag with the Alpha will make it constantly click as well.

@@AvAngel haha well I wasn't talking about leaving it on starter, it's just selecting the right mag that makes it go crazy for some reason. Seems like the Baron does a similar thing too, must be yet another Asobo bug and it only affects twins.
@johnjohnson5496
@johnjohnson5496 3 года назад
Great video. That engine out performance is not very realistic, in our Seminoles you can easily maintain level flight above Vyse until around 7k feet or so, and especially in a descent for landing with gear down it's never been a problem maintaining blue line all the way in on the approach - of course, I fly at very low density altitudes, but that sim performance (or rather lack thereof) seems very exaggerated. Oh and btw, are you associated with GTA and a certain media company within it by any chance? Your voice sounds very very familiar lol

I purchased this airplane. If I try to lower the sun visor, or open the little window, or open the door (using the mouse) it crashes to the desktop every time. Even if the plane is on the ground with the engines off. I can open the door, and the baggage door using the tablet on the yoke, but the sun visor and window will crash the sim to the desktop if I click on either of them. Also, I suspect there may be a problem with the autopilot. When I try to put in a "direct to" flight it doesn't seem to work. I am a bit rusty with this autopilot, so it could just be me. Anyway, for a $30 + airplane I think everything should work as advertised. I do like the plane because it actually flies pretty well. Hopefully there will be a patch for these issues.
@AvAngel

In the included checklist, in the emergency section, it says: For "one engine inoperative landing", Inop engine needs to be fully feathered, and gears and flaps should be lowered only when you are certain you will make it to the landing site, along with at least 90 knots indicated airspeed only during the very Final, with flaps to 25 degrees, again when you are certain you will "make field", not before. I don't think any of that happened here. You could have lowered the gears when you reached very close to the runway, like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pL3aFdFBwu0.html in order to take with you as much airspeed as possible all the way to the runway. Your video was initially posted in AVSIM where real world P-44 pilots said your single-engine procedures were wrong. Speaking of the in-sim single engine performance, so far I can quote three real world pilots who commented on the single engine performance of this Carenado Seminole in MSFS 2020. One is a P-44 instructor, the other one has lots of experience and hours in GA multi-trainer but not in the P-44, and the last one again has lots of hours in the P-44 and is a flight instructor. The first pilot said single-engine performance of the sim P-44 is "unrealistically poor", while the second pilot said it's a "bit" poor but that's because he just "realized he has been flying this thing at gross weight with full seats in the sim so that just destroys single engine performance", and the last one didn't find any issue with the in-sim single engine performance, and said he could easily "cut an engine, secure it, make an approach then go around and land again.": www.avsim.com/forums/topic/589813-carenado-pa44-mini-review/?do=findComment&comment=4411230 Disclaimer: I'm not a real world pilot. Completely off! Stalls are all entered from slow flight speeds for the configuration of flight. A power off stall is an approach stall meaning the aircraft is configured for landing. A power on stall is a departure stall meaning the aircraft is configured like it would be on take off. Pattern altitude for GA aircraft is almost universally 1000 ft AGL.
