I usually remove the Carhartt badge from my garments, simply because i wear so much of their stuff and don't want to look like a walking advertisement.
I don’t like to show brands I’m more of a minimal type of person Now if they want me to advertise them they should pay me Im not paying a company so i can advertise them
Honestly for work jeans, riggs by wrangler overtook Carhartt long ago. My Riggs Work Horse and Utility Jeans were far superior to my Carhartt Carpenter jeans in everyway. Its nice to see they updated but too little too late for me.
I agree I bought a pair of wrangler riggs workhorse after having carhartt for a few year. I own four pairs, one good pair and three work pairs that have survived 6 years in a welding shop/woods/and a whole lot of abuse. I don't get why just about every video I've seen of guys comparing jeans they never show them.
Carhartt lost my business when they killed the durability of the B73 on the last redesign. I will wait until there are some long term reviews. Until then i will keep wearing $15 costco jeans which seem to last alot longer. Funny thing is I dont put stuff in my back pockets except for my wallet. The pocket corners give out sliding in and out of machinery and climbing in and out of lift trucks all day.
I definitely tier down my clothes 😂 My grandfather used to do that back in the day. Always used to see him in worn out clothes in the workshop Once they go to workshop duty you know they have some mileage
Thing about those (and Japanese ones) is that they're basically luxury/artisanal denim. They're usually made with unique fabrics, special stitch details, woven on a special loom, chain stitched... and on it goes.
As someone who is newly obsessed with Carharrt, this is my go-to channel pre-purchase for info on the products I'm investing in. Carl you haven't let me down yet. Thank you for your commitment to educating us on this stellar brand. And happy holidays!
The classic B01 isn't the same pant anymore. I've been buying carhartt for 10 years and my newest pair of pants that I bought isn't the same. Something has changed in the fabric.
Always liked Carhartt jeans for skateboarding. I used to find them at the thrift store for real cheap but now the prices are jacked up so much I might as well buy a new pair lol.
Sierra's factory second workwear is the truth, I've lived in the same stack of "irregular" k87's for years and haven't found any product regardless of price that has served me as well these 4 dollar tee's! Great vid!
I can’t say i have been too thrilled with my recent carhartt purchases. I have 7 or 8 pairs with each and every one having a blown out crotch. The seam never failed but the material around it has.
Yep, absolutely tier my clothes. Shoes/boots, pants, and shirts that are nearing their end become housework/yardwork clothes until one day I pick them up and they turn into dust. Give them a quick moment of silence and onto the next worn out set of clothes.
I'll have to check these newer styles out for myself and compare them to my Duluth jeans. I've had a few pairs of my ballroom work jeans for 3-4 years and they're still very functional, the crotch gusset makes all the difference if you're continuously up and down at your job like myself.
Been wearing carhartt for 25 years. Nothing beats the double knee design they have came up with. With that said the past year I have been wearing tough duck which seem to be a great pant except my carharrt will not stretch out in the waist after a few hours like the tough ducks do
This is nicholas , I had to start reitirng my Carhartts all together and even some of my wranglers. I switched up to ariats since i need fr for work. I work large construction and do everything from driving rig, operating heavy equipment , laboring down in the ground or flagging traffic. Then we also farm and ranch , and volunteer fire fighting along with being an environmental tech on the weekends. So ive also recently gotten into the cinch western and rodeo jeans and literally fell in love with them. Comfort and that great dark blue faded look.
Yep definitely a tier of clothes, from going out clothes, to work clothes, then lounging-at-home clothes. Then after would go to yard-work/hobby clothes like when working on my car. The last bottom rung they would become clothes to use for painting, that you would throw out after the job was done. There would also be sometimes when I would make patches out of the old jeans, to reinforce another pair.
Tier system...YES....LOOK GREAT when going out...look respectable, prof. at work,.... at home ...25 yr old levis ...holes ,faded,, cuffs all fraid....SUPER COMFORT for watching football and basketball on TV all fall and winter.....
I absolutely have a rotation of clothes for good for public, good for working (rips, stains, probably patches or obvious repairs from my bad sewing), and good for only at home (usually rips in the crotch that can’t be fixed anymore). As a kid there would be the hand me down life cycle too that could be from any of the thee tiers. Any thrifty family middle class or below likely has something similar. Good memories
I'm with you brother. Yes they go from work wear to yard wear, shirts and pants and even boots. Carl I've mentioned this brand before I wish you would give them a shot as work pants, I've been wearing them everyday for about 4 years or so. They are branded as tactical, they are perfect for work lots of pockets, gusseted knees and crotch. They are Vertx delta stretch. Perfect pockets for my knife and olight and everything else.
Love my wranglers, only pants I haven’t ripped to date have been Ridgecut jeans and wrangler ATG pants, but their retro series and Ariat jeans are my favorite with ridgecut being good for just a cheap pair that hold up fairly well between general contracting and farm/ranch work and being pretty comfortable
Carhartt killed their overall line too... R1 and r7 no longer made... new ones have these elastic panels on the sides that fail and "blow out". Now I wear Roundhouse ftw
I used to get their rugged flex, and they would last approx a year or more. Last pair was very different quality of material and blew out the inseam in about 6 months. Around that time Wranglestar made a video about how he will never buy Carhardtt again, mainly due to a huge decrease in quality. I then found out that Patagonia makes work pants. I have yet to really try them out, but I did buy a couple of pairs and they seem really well made. For now, just have been wearing some Levi's I got on sale. My job is more on the maintenance side now and involves a fair bit of desk work as well, so they seem to be holding up ok. Crotch gusset is a good idea though.
Patagonia “work” pants are trash. The whole iron forge line is made for people to do PR photos on some sustainable eco synthetic hydroponic salmon hatchery, not any actual physical activity. The fit is absurd, the rear pockets are designed by an alien or something, the waist or top block or whatever is shaped like a refrigerator. Only upside is the material feels nice on the skin. And don’t listen to Cody. Rich tech guys LARPing as frontiersmen is so tiresome, even if they’ve been doing it for 10 years.
Id love to hear your opinion on Brave Star double knee work jeans with the new gusset. I love yhe idea of selvedge brands adopting some of the features that make pants more comfortable for work.
@@HARMAN7777 I have 3 pairs of brave star and like them, but haven't tried their work pants yet, especially not the new ones with the gusset. Great company.
For me, I stick with Wrangler cowboy cut denim jeans. They're straight legged, not cowboy cut. I do architectural sheet metal work in the Dallas, TX area. The 14oz denim is about as thick as I can go in the summer months, yet are warm enough is most colder months. If it gets really cold they're roomy enough to wear long johns with them. I get these in raw denim. They're 25 bucks and damn tough. They fade beautifully. And they've saved me from stitches more than one time I've never thought of venturing out with other jeans.
I also meant to add that they're high rise jeans with high set pockets. It helps make it appear like I have a booty when in actuality I just have two legs and a butthole. Big win for wrangler
Thank you for great video. Somthing that annoys me about the Carhartt changes are the colors. People usually laugh when I say I like the dark brown color because its the color of dirt. Dirty is what they become when working and it just dosnt show as much in that dark brown . Probably a desision made by office people. Another is the dark blue. If a company wants its employees to ware a uniform, its probably navy blue polyester. To match in cotton Carhartt no longer makes the double front work pant in this color. This is the reason I was happy to have found your channel. Carhartts is no longer working for me
Sorry, the new Carhartt jeans are a downgrade to their entire line. They also discontinued their traditional fit line, another poor decision. Sadly, after wearing Carhartt for 20 years, I'm moving on to other brands.
America is sleeping on Sashiko. Throw a little over the top corners of those pockets and you would have some jeans that will last. Plus it just looks good.
Another great video, Carl! In my opinion, the new ones are nice, but I prefer the old look in terms of the colors and leather patch. As for the tiers of my clothes: I am a part time painter and my real last resting place for the work clothes are when they get paint spots on them. Then I only use them to paint stuff with. I never got the idea of "designer" clothes with paint spots and splashes on them, which is understandable, I guess.
Funny they used to be a premium for me, until recently. Now they are the norm. I might get laughed at here, but recently tried Hawks, by boot barn, couldn't believe quality and price point
Love the reinforced belt loop! I also wear my keys hooked to my belt loop so that's a good thing! Wonder how soft these are having ring spun cotton, i'll have to try them! I only buy underwear that has "ring spun" cotton and it makes a world of different in comfort, fruit of the loom makes regular white briefs that are made with ring spun cotton which i highly recommend trying, very comfy.
"Teir system" oh yeah. Go out casual, work level, yard and or grubby chores retire. Cracked me up you talked about this. Got to get the miles out of the clothes. Watch pocket used for ear plugs, lol. Eventually some items end up as shop rags. Thank you for all your videos. 👍🇺🇸
I’m not a fan of the thickness being a little thinner. Even if it is stronger, I like having an extra bit of barrier between the hard ground and my knees when I’m kneeling. Especially since I’m a conductor, and sometimes have to kneel on rail road ballast which can be super uncomfortable
Haven’t tried these, but recently picked up Walmart Wrangler ATG and Tractor Supply Ridgecut Canvas Flex, both were under $30. Not impressed with the with the wrangler’s so far, but then Ridgecut seems promising. Three weeks in so far, we’ll see in six months.
@@maxwellerickson7066 I liked my first couple, but blew the crotch out on my brown pair in four months. Second gray pair got a hole in the pocket, I still wear those. The newest ones (brown) have weird front pockets that look big but are too close to belt line making it a pain to access. Also loose threads all over the lap. That didn’t happen to my originals.
It’s honestly strange how odd the size of carhartts jeans/pans are now. Super super slim in the waist and they are a bit tight in the legs. I’ve sized up twice to try to get a pair and the fit was still odd. I’d rather just buy some wranglers for half the price.
very interesting! Patagonia hemp workpants are pretty good if you can get them on sale regular price 80-100 but made to last. $400 for pants is crazy. Guess I'll get the new Carhartt when Sierra Trading Post gets some seconds in.
The best thing to do with Carhartts dad jeans is to immediately go and get them Tailored to YOU. It only cost like 10$ to 15$ per pair. You can have Carhartts durability with a custom fit.
The jeans that cost 200-400 are mainly selvedge denim tho. And look better the more you wear them. So it wouldn’t be a bad idea to wear them to work in cause they’ll literally develop their own character, fades, and wear pattern.
Wrist watches don't last long so mine are only for dress-up. The 5th pocket keeps my cheap watch out of the tools and parts I often have in my front pockets.
Tried the new design double knee jeans, and the back pockets didn't last as long as the previous design. Durability on the previous design was also horrible but not anywhere near as bad as the new design.
Awesome video! Always so informative.. do you have any older videos where you talk about selvedge jeans? I'm looking to get my first pair and it's insane! So much variety and the inseam lengths confuse me..I feel like my head is gonna explode 😆
20 Years in construction Lets face it, clothes don't last. I only wore Rustlers. $12 at Walmart. Hard to beat and they kinda looks good on me too if I can say so myself. For work purposes do I buy a size bigger than I normally wear. Carthartt make a damn good product but their price is just too much for my taste. Having said that ,I do have a pair of Carthartt bibs that will outlast me.
Lost respect for Carhartt when I learned they will not put in the effort to ship out of the lower 48! A whole lot of Working Americans in Hawaii, Alsaska, Guam and PR!
Not a fan. Most likely won't be as reliable, why get rid of the leather patch. They shouldn't be going for fashion. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see. Thanks for the video, keep up the good work
Yup my clothes and shoes have some for work and days off. And some for dirty work and for back up. For Jean's and pants been going with wrangler and dickies
Have 2 tiers of Carhartt clothes. I wear almost new to work. I don’t like looking like a dirtbag on the way to work. I wear my stained or torn Carhartt around the yard. I am a Diesel mechanic. I don’t like the double front pants. That’s for welders…
I gave up on Carhartt long ago. I used to be devoted to their long sleeve henleys. The sizing on them became wildly inconsistent, depending on what country they were made in. I was wearing anywhere from a small to a large. This is unacceptable, especially when shopping online.
I Will like to ask.. recently i got my first carhartt pants and was 38 i usally buy 36.. and barely fits me... if purchase on Internet.. i must Still look for 38 or even 40???
