Hey guys, this is a complete guide on setting up a Caridina (Crystal Red) shrimp breeding tank for the best results and aftercare. As you watch the video, you can see you really don't need a lot, as a lot of the time, the simpler it is, the better. Tanks like these allow for easier selective breeding or you can breed huge masses of shrimp and view it easily.

Finally an in depth video with demonstration on how to keep crs shrimps. Most just give you the factors but don't show you the actual setting up of the tank. With information on how often to cycle it. Thank you so much for this.

@worldofaquariums5534
@worldofaquariums5534 3 года назад
Really depends as each tank is different but I would try maintain ammonia ast around 4ppm and nitrates low (your nitrates should spike very high when cycling) This will probably be like 2 50% water change first week, one second week eg and you go from there

I have done everything this video recommends, on multiple tanks ..but still no luck!!! I’ve had a few babies in the tank but they all die within a couple of weeks. My only guess is my tank size is too small (30l) so the water parameters are fluctuating too much. I’m going to get a bigger tank (200l) and see how I get on. But I swear to god in doing everything right. ADA Amazonia substrate. RO water remineralised with GH+ to about 120 TDS. 0dKH. 5 dGH. 22dC water temp. Indian almond leaves, alder cones, live plants. Cautiously feeding with pellets, and boiled spinach and small amounts of bacter AE and powdered food for the babies. And I mean small amounts. Sponge filter. I swear to god I’m doing EVERYTHING by the book. But no luck in creating a self sustaining colony. I want to cry
@worldofaquariums5534
@worldofaquariums5534 2 года назад
Hi, I doubt it's your tank size being too small. How many shrimp do you buy at once? How do they seem when they are dying, how long does it take for them to start dying off, how many at a time eg? And for food, how much are you actually feeding them?
@kernalbert4939
@kernalbert4939 Год назад
Cut back on the amount of food. Be certain that your tank is properly cycled. Like six to eight weeks proper. Reduce the amount of substrate in the main tank and use either a corner under gravel filter or a series of corner box filters filled with ADA. Get your pH down to the 4.5 to 5.0 range. Add a moss or water wisteria or duckweed; some fast growing plant that will reduce nitrates (crypts and anubias though hardy, don't grow fast enough to really tackle nitrates)

I see your gh is way high, keep it at 3 for beginner, and keep your tds around 100. Then how about ph, how high is your ph in water?

@worldofaquariums5534
@worldofaquariums5534 Год назад
ADA soil is on the expensive side of soils for aquariums but it works really well. The way I see it personally is, if I have lots of success using ADA soil, I would rather spend more on a premium brand then another if i increase the amount of shrimp breeding

How to create right gh and kh with RODI water?
@worldofaquariums5534
@worldofaquariums5534 2 года назад
Lots of brands sell mineralisers. For Caridina shrimp you want gH + only while cherries you want gh/kh+. For example, popular brands include shrimp king and salty shrimp gh+ or gh/kh+
@hushfan
@hushfan 3 года назад
If I may request, can you show a video on how you do a water change? Ie. If you just take out water then add in new one(remineralized RO)? How you clean the substrate? Do you use a siphon to clean your substrate? And if so, how do you do so in a tank that has alot of items. Like moss, cholla wood, plants. And how you do it to prevent frys from getting into the siphon(I keep having that problem) so I have to take a look at my siphoned water container to look for baby shrimplets to save 😅. I'm sure different people have different methods. Thank you so much in advance. I binged watch all your videos on shrimps.
@brazycovid
@brazycovid Год назад
You can typically just tie a very fine net to the siphon itll still do water changes for the most part without having to worry about sucking up fry, cleaning the substrate isnt something i heard as something that has to be done, other then when it loses its buffering ability then having to replace the whole substrate. Sorry for the 1 year late response lol

@@brazycovid yes correct, you can simply use a panty and a rubber band or something. Snails are also very beneficial to add to your (shrimp) tank they clean waste and prevent ammonia from building up. Add more plants that Shrimp enjoy, like Java fern etc, as they do well off shrimp poop as well. But Pond snails or bladder snails so I’ve learned, are the best option for shrimp.

How to feed shrimp?you feed every day?
@Cleeon
@Cleeon Год назад
Nope, not always, you must look to the food, if it stay inside aquarium, even a very little bit of it, then no feeding, skip on next day, till you see it gone, then you can give new food, a little, but if your shrimps can finish it at single day, then by tomorrow you can give a little more

Btw, almond leaves and Indian almond leaves are not the same.. why not call them Cattappa leaves to avoid confusion. Yeah it’s distantly related to the almond tree but not now and I’d hate to see somebody lose shrimp by throwing in an almond leaf. I have an almond teee and nearly threw it in but luckily I googled it and didn’t. But I’m no expert in leaves so maybe it’s ok too? Do you know? Sub’d and liked!

Main problem with soil tanks is the amount of ammonia leached out. I understand the wait time sucks, but it is what i recommend, especially with more sensitive shrimp. Most videos or articles I have read recommend same thing for shrimps

@@MsLila44 Ghost shrimp are a neocaridina species, crystal reds are a caridina species which requires more care and patience, neocaridina tanks usually can be done cycling within a week, but since the soil drops pf and leeches ammonia it requires time to dissipate and that's why the cycle process takes a lot longer for these shrimp. Neocaridina don't require soil since their water doesn't need to be buffered(ph drops) , you can use plain rocks for your ghost shrimp. hope my response clears up the reasoning.
