Get a good lawyer, there are a bunch of ways to stay legal. Some of the Japanese anglers are very experienced in navigating US immigration as well. Be more careful in the future staying legal and good luck.
Hi Guys it’s Rob Wood, Tommy’s dad. Thank you for all the kind comments you guys have forwarded. Tommy is not phased you lift the bar and he will jump higher. I think we might have to dress up up as a Mexican and bring him through the southern boarder. Although he does look mor like barbie than a Mexican. May be he could borrow Margo Robbie’s passport. Ha haha Anyway all jokes aside I would love to hear from u guys if you can help with the visa process. It’s really tough trying to get some sort of direction with the American consulate in Australia. Anyway look out for Tommy Wood he’s coming your way soon. He’s a feirce competitor a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He has had this passion from 12 years of age and I have know doubt he will stand on that stage holding that trophy above his head many times. This just adds to the tournaments adding an international flavour with Australia Canada and Japan making it a world championship. Love u guys keep up the great work.
Excellent Mercer excellent. Not just great questions but always deliver so much substance each and every week. So happy for BASS and the great people you continue to introduce us too. This is the current 30 for 30 of bass fishing. With KVD retiring been thinking a a lot about how much he accomplished but also about so many great stories that may never get told due to the state of professional bass fishing. Thank you for all you do I guess is what I’m trying to get across. These guys deserve so much better overall I think you know what I mean. I hope the fans can agree on that.
Did not expect this type of content from a fishing podcast, but thankful. Thanks Dave for going after this type of interview and Carl for sharing his life, grace and truths. Very inspiring.
I am definitely a Carl fan after hearing his story and what he has come through in life to even be on this stage. For many of us fans we look so forward to watching these guys and to be able to hear there stories is priceless!!! We all need someone like Carl that is doing it the right way to cheer for!!
Dave, you are are a very positive person and you bring it out of all of your guests! Best podcast hands down! Thank you for all you do for our sport and for humanity!
Great interview Dave! The anglers themselves can put change into place by speaking out. Penalties, fines, suspensions or whatever is needed, need to be swift and published. Every company involved with the industry will want to partner with organizations with a high level of integrity. Silence to want is being done wrong is condoning it. The fix is very simple, stand up for what is right and the bad apples will stick out like a sore thumb!
What an incredible story!! After this talk, I am now a huge Carl Jocumsen fan and will be rooting for his success and longevity in this sport. We need more honest and integrity-driven individuals in this world.
After reflecting on this video, along with 2 other pros talking and agree on the same subject, gives credit and truth to the fact. Some certain angler will defend their actions on social media comments and make fun of those who mention something. What a world of professionalism we live in. Keep up the great work Mercer 👍👍
This past spring my brother and I fished an event to raise money for a local who has ALS. At the weigh in, a friend we have known for years showed us a pic of a 5+. I said you will definitely get big fish today as tough as it was. He said, turned her back. Why? Hooked on outside of the mouth and she was on bed. (Early spawn her in WV). I always respected this guy, but that bumped that respect up a few notches. His integrity was worth more than a few hundred dollars.
Super inspiring 🙌. Loved the show and what an amazing human Carl is. Makes me proud to be an Aussie and cant wait to come over to Support Carl when he wins a Classic💪🐟🇦🇺🎣
What a show Dav! I've watched Carl and other anglers in the tournaments but he hadn't gotten much press. I feel I understand him better after this. Being an Aussie, they've words and terms few understand. Fear my heart - in translation I've got heart and will just keep getting up. The little engine that could. He's somewhat the same as myself. I just always figured I was just to dumb to stay down. I'll be watching and cheer'n him on in his chosen field of endeavor.
This should be your most watched episode. Everyone, fisherman or not could use to listen to this message on a regular basis, no one more than myself. Hopefully this episode turns into one like GMans PMA video.
Last night my boy and I were out and it wasn't working. He started bemoaning the situation, when I looked at him and said; Imagine not being able to catch fish consistently for 10 years. The agony of angling is out there and very real, but when its what you do, it rolls off your back a lot easier.
Carl is a really cool guy. I fished the BASS Invitationals during the draw tournament period. That format made for good sportsmanship. If you didn’t do the right thing everyone knew it and you were going to have a bad day, every day. I hope we can move on to more positive subjects soon.
Carl’s story/history is amazing! Love his ❤! Only great things for him & his family in the future! The Carls of BASS & MLF must speak out & have the cheaters eliminated (not the cheating.. yes needs to stop) but the actual fishing cheaters need to be banned for life!
David, I listened to the show again and realized I missed some things that I did not catch the first time. Karl, to me did not appear to come across as “whining”, he did come across as being 100% honest. I think that the way he explained his feelings and relationships within fishing is how most adults feel in life in general. Without be sexiest when I say this, men go through what Karl explained more than women. The title of the show should have been “Top notch bloke being honest”. Another great show regardless. On the note of how all tournaments should be run to stop cheating, here are my thoughts. Maybe having a panel of judges made up from one official from BASS, MLF, & NPFL, this would help all the leagues be on the same page. This panel would be made up from officials within these organizations and should also include some anglers also, these anglers could be made up from the reigning AOY, reigning ROY and another angler that could be randomly chosen or the angler that finishes in 50th place. By making the anglers part of the panel they can give any situation a look/review from the angler’s perspective. There would need to be an overall referee/chairman that has the casting vote. Their role is self-explanatory (hopefully not needed). All rules should be reviewed by all officials and anglers and if there is a grey area these should be brought up ahead of the tournament and a statement made prior to the start of the tournament explaining how the issue is addressed. If an issue is brought the panel the panel could meet via Zoom/Teams or one of the other communication platforms out there (a route to getting some nonendemic sponsorship). The panel reviews the issue and makes a public statement telling whether a violation has occurred or not, no 51% vote ruling, it is either black or white, no grey area.
We need all the shade to be exposed. Ive heard whispers about wheeler and other guys and all the dirt needs to be out there so fans can choose who they really support. Basically a guy can look like a diamond in public but every other time theyre a turd but fans only see the diamond side.
Social media is awful to the psyche. You watch the highlight reel of everyone you may know, it brings you down constantly. Your life is a highlight when you get off social media.
What a load of crap they deport Tommy give Carl hell when a hundred thousand come here illegal a month. With all your subscriber's all 50 states should be represented everyone email their senator and raise hell.Carl's story is awesome he almost had me tearing up getting soft in my old age😪😪 Good show.👍👍👍👍👍
I’m amazed that the same people that cry about open borders come to Tommy’s defense. I’m also surprised Carl let this happen. I worked as a subcontractor for ICE and work and student visas are not hard to get. If you’re long term goal is to compete in bass tournaments here (do business) get the proper visa and don’t overstay. It takes some effort and expense and ever one of the Carl and every one of the Japanese anglers have done it.
Am I weird this may be my third watch. Lol. Looks like with people like Johnny morris. Kevin van dam who ever can not help this guy get back over here sooner rather than later. Com on. This country is an open gate. And he was one day late. Good lord. Let’s go fishing community. Let’s help Tommy
So someone from Australia or Japan comes for 91 days, but if you come across the Southern border from a 3rd world country then you can stay for 10 yrs before theyd even start to wonder where your at. And theyll give them money to travel as well, and it costs Carl a fortune. Thats insanity, and ticks me off. People that do it correct get crapped on, but if you come illegal, this regime will welcome ya in!
Tell Tommy to go to Mexico, and come over the border that way. Shouldn't cost him any legal fees. Biden is letting millions come to the US that way on the tax payers dollar for a vote at the polls
