the black plexitone is the best distortion sound you will ever hear from a pedal - wipes the floor with everything else

I just bought a Plexitone single and I'm loving it. I have a DOD 250 stacked in front of it which gives the high gain punch to it. I like that it bumps up to 12v internally which gives it a very passable amp channel feel to it. Worth every penny.

I have the black one. During rehearsals people would compliment me on my tone, running a Les Paul through a Super Reverb. I'd sometimes add the Soul Food pedal in there and to me it sounded even better. I don't usually run pedals with the Les Paul but this one actually works. Sounds great with a Strat, too. Once I got this pedal I got rid off my fulldrive and tube screamer. They were no longer useful as this is the sound I wanted. Great for blues, giving it a subtle overdrive without overpowering the natural amp sound. But if you want to really rock out and play some late 60s classics this is perfect. It won't get you to the AC/DC sound of the 70's - you actually need a Plexi for that - but it will do everything else.

Is this still a good pedal in 2023?

i have the gold single. no other drive pedals out of 25+ pedals see any stage time. This thing is my main!

Sold all my other overdrive pedals, after I got my large, black Plexitone. Sounds nice and almost perfect as a standalone solution, in front of an amp the differences between all the Crunch, High Gain and Boost options can disappear a little more, if the amp itself already offers some overdrive, nevertheless all the options are useful. For me the perfect addition to any JTM45, 1959 or SV-20, if you look for some hot or even much hotter Plexi sounds, but no JCM800 or later Marshall sounds. The Tone control also is working fine and the harmonics simply are awesome, if not perfect. Sold my Tube Driver, my Kaluna, my OCD, my Klon Cenatur, this one nails this typical Plexi tone much better. With or without an additional amp. But also the smaller version, even the low gain version could be enough. I usually use Crunch at decent settings and am more than happy with the sound. For these sounds this pedal is a bargain!

the 120v/240v power supply is what gives the larger one the air and more open sound in the hi end and the better definition between strings on lower chords. i own them both and the larger one def sounds better....i don't think its hard to tell the difference in-person at all....the larger one is better in every way. its def the power supply creating more amp-like headroom.

I like the single channel, it will cut in the mix. Just my opinion and preference

The small is not made as the normal one, it has less gain and slightly less lowend....it is drier and slightly thinner.

Carl martin Plexitone sounds like it has more scooped upper range. The Plexitone Single sounds more focused and stronger in the bass frequencies. Can deny the silky Marshall highs in the Original Plexitone though
